We arrived at Palm Village Friday night just in time for dinner in the new Banquet Hall! plenty of room and good food! Friendly staff. there were 10 of us and we all enjoyed a hearty meal before setting off to bed. The next day, the breakfast, pool, lunch, pool, dinner and the rolling gardens and sea breaking over the ridge of coral-reef just beyond was amazing! at night, the lit-up gardens, succulent food and magnificent view from the rooms was just right!
Hats off to the team at Palm Village for making us feel at home and at ease! The kids especially loved the pool and frolic. a three-day two-nights truly felt as it was a five-day trip out from home.
Thank you and hope to come back soon! we were sad to leave on Sunday and oh! yes! we also indulged in freshly-caught fish from the Hamilton Canal brought by the fishing boats, on or way home! Yaay PALM VILLAGE!

Room Tip: Personally, a room for me is just to sleep in so, from that point of view, all rooms were o.k. But y...

OK hotel. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Restaurant is expensive, however, if you compare it with the rest of Sri Lanka. The sea view is very beautiful but the fact that you cannot swim in the sea as a result of rocks / concrete blocks right at the point where the waves break is rather disappointing.

Our first visit to Sri Lanka, and most certainly not our last!.
We chose this hotel because of the short transfer time from the airport (1 hour) compared to others offered by Mercury Direct - other T/A reviews have commented on transfers taking twice as long as claimed due to the roads & traffic, and we didn't fancy a long transfer on top of the lengthy flight time. The hotel is between Colombo and Negombo, with both being easily accessable. The immediate area has nothing much to offer except for a beautiful beach, which due to strong undercurrants is not suitable for bathing.
Being close to Colombo the Palm Village is well located for trips to Kandy (a must) and the elephant orphanage (another must) amongst other locations on the tourist map.
Like many previous reviewers we arranged our trips through a local guide - CAESAR. He is friendly, speaks good english and will tailor make a trip to your individual needs, uses a modern 7 seater MPV, and is significantly cheaper than the Mercury Direct offers.
There are two other freelancers in the area - Sidney (who unlike Caesar is allowed inside the hotel) and Sam. We didn't meet Sidney but know that he let somebody else down on a trip. Sam, we did meet, but were not impressed by at all. Caesar is best contacted through the lovely lady in the right hand end shop opposite the hotel.
The hotel, although a bit dated was a delight in many ways.
The grounds are maintained to within an inch of their lives every day. The pool was spotless with the pool boys constantly cleaning and tidying. All public areas were spotlessly clean and it looked as if there had been some refurbishment carried out in various public areas.
The food was plentiful and varied with buffet meals most lunchtimes and evenings, with some barbeques and a la carte offerings. Presentation of a la carte dishes was as good as you'd get in an expensive UK restuarant, and came as a pleasant surprise from a three star tourist hotel. The staff were very friendly and seemed genuinely happy in their jobs.
Apart from the hotel being a little remote the only negative comment we would make is that the bedrooms and corridors are in need of refurbishment. Bedroom furniture is meagre and is lost in what are quite decent sized rooms. Having said that the bed was one of the most comfortable hotel bed we've slept in and as we don't go on holiday to spend too much time in the bedroom the need for a refurb. wasn't a major issue.
Overall, a lovely experience in a beautiful country amongst happy smiling and helpful people. Perfect for couples wanting a quiet location.

Room Tip: The bedrooms are on the ground floor (opening onto the gardens) or one floor above. We were on the f...

Stayed here for 3 weeks Feb/March and had a wonderful time.I would like to thank Mr Vithnagre and ALL of his hard working ,friendly helpful, pleasant staff for the super time we had.I have refrained from naming any other members of staff as they were all in the same catogory an It would be an insult to miss one of them out.
Meals We found the food to be very good ,at times if the hotel was quiet a menu would be produced and the meal cooked to order also we had approx 2 bbq s a week in the hotel gardens which was accompanied by relaxing music
The rooms although in need of refurbishment are kept clean ,sheets/towels are changed every day.
If you are a person who prefers to swim in the sea, this hotel is not for you ,the sea has strong undercurrents and rocks, there is a pleasant beach immediatley outside the hotel which is cleaned and raked by the gardening staff. You can walk either side of the hotel and at times if you are lucky you may see the local fishermen hauling in their daily catch.locals are friendly and will engage in conversation with you.
Independant travel to either Columbo or Negombo is easy. The bus stop for negombo is situated immediatley outside the hotel ,This journey requires using two buses, the first is a 20 rupee ride to bopitiya,a short 100 yds walk from the bus stn to the next bus stop where this bus will take you into negombo.again its 20 rupees. For columbo this stop is located approx 100 yds to the right as you exit the hotel and is across the road. The 275 bus costs 35 rupees and like the journey to Negombo takes approx 1hr.
For trips we used as recommended by other tripadvisor members Ceasar a local who can be contacted on the beach or if you wish I have his e mail address. We found him to be informative and good company .His vehicle is insured and his driving documents are in order as when we were on one of our tours he was stopped at one of the many police checks and all was in order. He uses a modern people carrier which has a/c
Many thanks to all the friends we met at the hotel we enjoyed your company and god willing will see you again same time same place next year

The hotel may be graded 3 star but the staff from porters reception bar restaurant pool gardeners rooms and the office/technical guys made it feel like 5 star . The food is good with plenty of choices and if you could'nt find anything you liked they would cook something for you. Ceasar the local unofficial tour guide is very good and takes you to the places you want not the places he gets commission. Really recommend it. Beware if you plan to stay more than 30 days getting an extension is a pain.

Hotel delightful, nothing is to much trouble ,if you do not want the food displayed the chef will cook something you do want (how many hotels do that???)
Sun loungers are put by the pool staff where you want them, and they will not let you move them they will do it,and they are put there every day, mine was even move every few hour to be in the sun.
Trips I arranged with Ceasar, who is first class and if you want you can stay away one or two nights he will arrange every thing. He is a local taxi driver who can be connected via the shop across the road, and can be here in seconds.
Hotel very clean, ground beautiful, gardeners working all the time, wany problems are solved immediately , even if you have problems with the Internet a computer tec. will help you as wifi is free in the reception /bar area HOTEl lovely a few people stay a month or longer,I am on my sixth week and go home in a few days
Many come year after year, how is that for recommendation

Room Tip: I am disabled, so my room was 110, you could not get any better.
