We stayed at Palm Village, as a family of 4 for 3 weeks and used the hotel as a base for touring Sri Lanka. The hotel surpassed out expectations - it was clean, the food was excellent and the staff were outstanding. All the staff made us feel so welcome, from the pool boys, to the reception team, waiters and the restaurant supervisor to the management team. Nothing was too much trouble. The food throughout our stay was varied and to a high standard. The Christmas & New Year dinners would easily rival a 5* hotel. The hotel was quiet at times, but we didn't mind this at all. The brochure we booked from showed a health centre offering massage, which wasn't available at the time, but a masseur did come to the hotel and was good, but over priced. The hotel is set on the beach and is very safe the walk along. The hotel rooms were a little basic, but were perfectly adequate, and what you would expect from a 3 star hotel. We used the local beach 'boy' Caesar for two trips , which included over night stays. He took great care of us and delivered everything he promised and more. I would thoroughly recommend him and Palm Village!

Room Tip: I'd recommend a first floor room as it has a great sea view and the balcony was great for when w...

Excellent hotel. Small and personal. The food was outstanding, especially on Christmas Eve and New Years Gala dinner. The swimming area was excellent, kept very clean as was the rest of the hotel.
The Staff were 1st class. Nothing was too much trouble and it was great to have many chats with them. The rooms could do with a bit of an update but were very comfortable.
The whole village was friendly and some knew who we were. We felt very safe where ever we went. We did 2 trips with local guide Caesar. He really looked after us booking hotels and showing us the best places. He was not pushy and gave us good value for money. He can be found on the beach outside the hotel.
This resort is a little quiet, very Sri Lanka and not touristy.

One should keep in mind that this is only a 2 star hotel, and in spite of this, it offers very good service. It has a very good swimming pool and the beach is not even 10 feet away.

So some people have complained about the noise, but this is the same in all hotels. A lot of birds around, so they can get noisy, but this also nature!

Lots of seafood from nearby beaches.

Also not far from Colombo airport which is really convenient.

So, it is a really nice spot to relax and enjoy the ocean breeze and fresh seafood, just before getting back on the road :-)

Having reviewed the reviews there is little more to add. Apart from one review (Rad 28) based on only one nights stay, all the others say it all. We returned home last week following a very relaxing 3 week stay where the days just rolled into each other - seamless.
All made possible by the superb staff and surroundings.

We were invited to attend the annual staff party by the hotel manager and we were humbled by the staff's continued friendly attitude to us whilst at play - what wonderfull people! - Thank you!

PS. nobody has mentioned that you can safely (and cheaply) reach Columbo and Negombo by a half hourly bus service which stops at the hotel entrance. As with a train journey a "local" bus experience should not be missed.

Recommend that you are carefull with local trip providers - they think tourists are money trees!

Room Tip: Our ground floor room with easy pool, beach and garden access was perfect.

All booked and ready to go when Rad28's review appeared, that caused a little concern, but need we have worried, NO!
The hotel does certainly need some refurbishment, (which the general manager advised me would be going next year) but it is only a question of cosmetic's, nothing major is required. Let me state now that the hotel is not dirty in any way shape or form, it is cleaned to within an inch of its life all day and every day. They even sweep the lawns!

The food is exceptional, but what makes this place special is, as Ambidextrous so rightly says, is the staff. All the staff, I thought the "treatment" we received in both Goa and Kerala earlier this year could not be bettered, but it was here. If you have a problem, it is sorted in 5 minutes.
Because of this outstanding service the whole place takes on a totally relaxed atmosphere which just adds to the overall experience.

Being a fairly small, (50 room) establishment, it never feels crowded and whilst there, there were not many "permanent" residents, maybe 10 maximum at any one time, with several tour parties passing through and mainly staying just one or maybe two nights.

It was our first Sri Lanka vacation, and it did not disappoint, in any way. We have never met such genuinely friendly people, who always have a smile for you.

The island is described paradise, and we did venture out to see if this was true, it is!

However when booking or organising excursions be careful as you can easily spend a lot more than you need to. There is a company that work in conjunction with Mercury Direct, and they collect you from and return to the airport, and good they are, but their trips are more than double that which can be taken by the "locals".

The "locals" comprise of two main players, Sydney and Caesar, Sydney is allowed to enter the hotel and tout for trade, but Caesar is not and has to operate from the beach. Day one we met them both and gathered information, and decided to give them both a shot. Going to Colombo and Galle with Caesar, and doing the Kandy, two day jaunt with Sydney. We got this wrong, as we later found out that for an extra £25 we could have had a far better hotel in Kandy, and seen more of the island had we gone with Caesar. Caesar is a very personable, likeable, polite and courteous young man, and we consider it a privilege to have met him, HAIL CEASER!!

There is also Percy, a new kid on the block, recently returning to Sri Lanka from being a chef in France and Germany. He also is very nice chap and we travelled to Negombo with him a couple of times by tuck-tuck, which is as far as one wants to go in one of these contraptions. He also introduced us to what he described as his uncles establishment, Club Restaurant which is ten minutes walk away either by beach or by road, and is an absolute delight. A beach bar with good food and good vibrations, usually just frequented by the local's.

So there you are a great trip, with only one very minor niggle, put a kettle with coffee/tea in the rooms (which with only 50 rooms is a very minor expenditure) and then you have nirvana.

Highly, very, very highly recommended.

Room Tip: As there seems to be very little noise going on after 10pm any room should be ok, but we consider th...

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at Palm Village and had a great time. The hotel does need some refurbishment but it was kept spotlessly clean and the staff were great and worked extremely hard. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, although at times they were a bit slow in reacting. I'm not a fan of curries but always found something to eat and the chef was more than happy to cook something different if you wanted it.

The pool guys were fantastic and kept the pool and the area around it very clean. There are a limited number of sunloungers but as the hotel appears to survive mainly on transiting people who arrive for a few hours, stay the night, then move on we never had a problem. There are umbrellas but if you want more shade the pool guys are more than happy to put a lounger under a tree in the gardens.

My only complaint is there is virtually nothing close by. Although we were all inclusive we like to drink and eat outside also and this wasn't possible without a taxi or tuc tuc ride.

If you are All Inclusive wine is not included and a glass is about £2.50 and is very drinkable.

When staying here you have to remember it's only 3 star but how long do you spend in your room. The room was a good size and there was a large shower the sheets and towels were changed daily and we had some wonderful creations made out of the towels.

All in all we had a great holiday and will go back in the future.

Very bad, very old and terribly dirty hotel. The reality looks much worse than in the pictures on the website. Compared to other hotels around, the restaurant is poor, dirty and the selection is very limited. Staff is lazy, takes them long time to bring just simple knife or pineapple juice they offer.
Rooms are dirty, there is a mould in the bathrooms and they are very bad-furnished. Travelled there in the group of 25 people, stayed only for one night and all of us were very happy we were leaving in the morning..

Room Tip: Pick another hotel..
