This place is really far from the Colombo City also really far from the airport. Access roads are really bad. The infrastructure is old and shabby. Once it used to be a good hotel not it is falling apart due to lack of maintenance. The fan didnt work in our room at first and took around half an hour to repair with us sitting tired in the room after a long journey. The place is full of house lizards. Rooms are Ok. The pool is good size and is very clean. The beach is also ok, but nothing to write home about. It is not worth paying 65USD + taxes. Please avoid this hotel if you dont wanna waste your money. The restaurant staff are very rude. They have only one ala catre menu and on asking for a second one (coz we were a group of 5) the waiter got aggressive and switched off our fan. The musicians at dinner were great and made the evening enjoyable. Buffet spread is very poor to say the least. Better hotels are available in Sri Lanka, dont waste your money here.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 1st floor have a better view.

I stayed at the Palm Village Hotel for 2 nights and I found it a nice place. The hotel is kept in colonial style with a pleasant garden, swimming pools and direct access to beach.
The rooms are simple, but good enough to stay a few days.
A free wifi was available on very limited area, generally somewhere around the reception desk. You need to pay to get wifi elsewhere.
It might be a good choice if you are on tight budget ;)

Stayed here February 2013,for 21 nights all inclusive. All staff were very brilliant, helpful and very polite.Food was excellent always something for everyone's taste. Gardens and pool are constantly well maintained,I have never seen pools so clean they were cleaned throughout the day, the pool attendants removed any leaves and insects out whenever they could, went round the inside of pools with a sponge to remove any film build up.They insist you used the pool side shower before entering the pool.
We used Ceaser the local taxi driver he really looked after us the trips we booked with him was far cheaper the others.
Would recommend this hotel.

As promised, would like to share my views about this hotel.
We were there during Nov/Dec 2012.
All the staff are extremely friendly and accomodating. The setting of the hotel is very nice, lovely gardens and scenery and swimming pool at the rear. Access to the beach is very convenient. The rooms are as expected of a 3 star hotel, nice and clean and the bathrooms sufficient. They are cleaned every day.
The food is quite good, mainly buffet lunches and dinners, as well as breakfasts. Only thing i will say is that the food needs to be varied from time to time. Sometimes the Pasta and vegetables were a little undercooked. Also the Dhal and other curries were a little too salty. Also sometimes the food was not always adequately covered, the flies took advantage of this.
Also some guests failed to cover the food once they had helped themselves.

Visitors may get a shock when the locals book the facilities for their parties and celebrations. They tend to 'take over' and i have spoken to management about the need to section off areas of the rear garden for tourists and the locals.

Overall a very positive impression of the hotel and its staff, would definitely consider a re-visit in the future.

Plenty of Tuktuk drivers outside gates to take you to Columbo, Negobo or trips by boat to the lagoon. Theses are far cheaper than the tour company offers we dad five trips by Tuktuk & loved it. We also went on trips to the Elephant Sanctuary, the tea plantations & factories & Kandy by private car. The drivers organised overnight hotels etc at very reasonable prices. Lovely people, very friendly. I will return.

Room Tip: In my opinion for price paid the rooms are very good. Overlooking beach, good large shower, king siz...

Stayed at Palm Village November 2012. I found it to be an ideal hotel. The service I received throughout my stay was excellent, particularly when I fractured my foot on a trip to Kandy. On return to the hotel was treated unbelieveably well. The gardens and pool are lovely and constantly maintained. Although the rooms are basic in furniture, they are large with a full sized fridge and a comfortable bed. Room service is daily and the room received a throrough clean. The food offered was extensive and of good quality. If few guests are dining, I was offered a freshly cooked meal from the al a carte menu. I would concur that, if you are planning trips, arrange beforehand or ask advice from locals. The costs offered by reps are very steep.
Loved this place. Only downside is that you pay for wi-fi and no atm. This shouldn't bother most travellers, but I was solo and blogging the family daily. This is a high quality 3star hotel at a great price. Go 5star if you want a spa and stuff!!

Room Tip: If staying a week or more the ground floor rooms have a veranda leading to the garden

My son and I stayed at the superb Palm Village Hotel for 20 nights during our September/October 2012 holiday to Sri Lanka and although I have visited Sri Lanka several times before, I can safely say that this time was my best holiday experience!! The hotel management and their staff was so accommodating to our needs and went out of their way, it seemed nothing was too much trouble for them.

The Hotel management was very professional in their approach to their guests and always made us feel very comfortable, safe and homely.

Please do not be put off by the odd negative reviews of this hotel but simply experience it for yourself and then make a judgement call for your future holiday visits. Palm Village Hotel is an amazing Hotel with a very homely atmosphere set out in a beautiful country setting, may be rated as 3 stars, however in my opinion it has 5 star gardens, food, staff and ambiance. I am confident that you too will feel the same if you gave it a fair go. My family and I intent to visit Sri Lanka every year as it is a beautiful country with amazing culture and values and no doubt we will be staying at the remarkable Palm Village Hotel. I wish to thank GM – Mr Withanage, RM – Mr Rodrigo, the rest of the management and of course all their staff for an unforgettable experience!!
