“Good for an airport layover”
Reviewed June 26, 2008

We stayed one night between a late flight into Athens and a morning flight out. We had 7 people in our group. The rooms were nice and clean and much cheeper than the airport hotel. The hotel is out in the suburbs. There is nothing, including and place to buy food, within walking distance. The taxi drivers, we had 2, both tried to charge us over 30 euros although the meter was less than 15. As always watch the taxi drivers from the Athens airport!
The staff was very helpful and the cabs they called in the morning arrived on time and charged the correct amount.

This is good, though in most respects unremarkable, hotel, and Markopoulo is not a memorable town. But if you are leaving from the airport the next day, you cannot find a more convenient hotel. They have shuttle service to the airport, but most people who stay here, I suspect, will have their own cars. It is a quick, painless, five minute ride to the airport-- it couldn't be easier.

The hotel is not plush, but it is a good hotel, with friendly staff, and overall we thought it was a very good value. It is right next to a busy highway, but double-paned glass and shutters block out most of the noise. There was some hallway noise from elevator doors (that open manually) and people stomping around. But we slept well.

We liked the staff. One especially nice desk clerk sent us to a nearby village to his favorite restaurant. It turned out to be one of the best meals we had in Greece, and it was a lot of fun.

The taverna is Trigono, in nearby Kalyvis (about a mile southwest of Markopoulo). To get there, go south from the hotel on the highway 1/2 mile to the first stoplight. Take a right and go about a mile, through the first roundabout, and the taverna is immediately on your left, across the street from a bp station.

We had a truly great meal at Trigono. They specialize in lamb, pork, and calf. Good barrel wine, and high quality food at very reasonable prices.

The kicker, for us, is that there are two dining rooms that pivot off of the kitchen, which is partially open and partly divided by a glass panel. So diners in either room can look directly into the kitchen as the staff prepare the meals. As it happens, they get whole lamb carcasses, and whole sides of pork and calf (all skinned, of course). The chefs butcher these in full view of diners, on a massive butcher block the size of a large stump. It was fascinating to watch them expertly process side after side of meat for later diners. At the very least, you knew exactly how fresh the food was... and the correct answer is "very fresh."

My wife and I enjoyed the restaurant tremendously, although we realize that watching a chef carve up lamb and pork carcasses while you eat might not be to everyone's taste. The staff was great, the food was excellent, there was a lot of it, and it was a bargain. It is a "locals" restaurant, but there were a lot of families there and there was a very welcoming atmosphere. It wasn't even that smoky when we were there (early evening). We loved it, and it was an unexpectedly memorable going away present from Greece. Highly recommended.

  • Liked — Convenient to the airport & friendly staff. Free wifi!! OK room w/ good beds. Great nearby restaurant.
  • Disliked — The hotel is on a busy highway. The area is OK, but not very scenic.

We stayed here before an early morning flight. The staff were extremely helpful.

The bedroom was very clean, with AC, and not as noisy as some of the reviews had led us to believe.

The shower was small but okay, again better than we had anticipated.

There is a bar on the ground floor and you can order food. The hotel booked a taxi for us for the morning and it took about 10-15 minutes to the aiport.

While I would not stay here for any other reason than its proximity to Athens Airport it is very good value for travellers.

  • Liked — Good value for money
  • Disliked — Small bathroom and public areas could do with more subtle lighting!

Hi,
The hotel is located near the Athens airport, past Markopoulo on the road to Sounio. (By doing an illegal U-turn) you can get to the airport in less than 10 minutes.
While I wouldn't stay here for any other reason than an early moring flight out of ATH, this is an OK hotel, similar to your average US motel. It's right by a busy road, but well sound insulated. The interior is a little worn, but not too bad.
We arrived late, but still managed a quick drive to Cape Sounio (Thanks to the directions given by the friendly staff).
Overall, a good alternative to the 200+ Euro airport hotel with its 23 Euro breakfast.

I stayed at the Hotel Pantheon before a morning flight out of greece. It is a nice hotel (recently renovated). The rooms were larger than most and the beds were actually queen size (as opposed to the double twins I saw every where else). The bathrooms are a bit small but there's room enough to do what you need and the shower is separated such that you don't drench the rest of the room when you use it.

Breakfast is decent with bread, ham, cheese and juices. The staff is friendly and helpful.

The best and worst thing about this hotel is that it's on the road to the airport. That means it's very convenient. Head north on the road in front of the hotel and after a few kilometers the road turns into an interstate and you'll soon see signs to the airport. It takes maybe 5-10 minutes to get to the airport. I believe the hotel also has shuttle service on request (but not positive on that, a taxi can't be that much as it's so close). The bad thing is it's a busy 4 lane road and even with the double glazing and being on the back side I could hear the traffic. I slept quite well with ear plugs. The other down side is there's some sort of manufacturing next door and the pounding started a little after 8am. I was up by then so it wasn't a problem but it would have made sleep difficult. I don't know if that's a daily thing or not. I left on a sunday and they were working so my guess is that it's daily.

Hotel Pantheon is a very quiet hotel situated near Athens Airport. It is very convenient for whoever wants to visit Cap Sounion. The hotel is easy going and has a car parking. If you want to book a triple room, make sure to have 3 beds and not 2 beds + 1 cot! Credit cards are accepted.
