The villa is stylishly appointed with attention to every detail. The views are stunning, with mountains, the sea and the scattered buildings of the local village, providing everchanging interest. The villa has a range of seating areas to relax, with both sun and shade and the pool is great for a refreshing dip. The local village which is easily accessible on foot, is relaxing to visit, quiet, friendly but with key services. The local restaurants and bars provide good local food. It is well situated to visit local beaches and villages,
This is somewhere I will certainly return to!
Such a lovely place, in a great village, with nice tavernas nearby. The pool was bigger than we expected and having it heated meant we could use it everyday. The staff at the villa were friendly and helpful and we had a wonderful time. We will definitely come back.
Villa Koumos Suited all our needs perfect location ,peace and tranquillity, and
maintained to a high standard ,
We certainly will be using Villa Koumos again.
We had a wonderful family holiday at Villa Koumos. Definitely a much higher standard than other villas we've rented. It had every facility we wanted like a big pool, aircon, wifi, dvds, books. The views were wonderful and the village of Gavalochori had all we wanted. We particularly liked the photo driving instructions provided. It made it really easy to find the villa. We will definitely come back.
This is our 3rd trip to villa Koumos - it's become our favourite place for a family holiday. The villa is lovely with fabulous views and the tavernas in the village are lovely and very accommodating of young children. The hill back to the villa is a good bit of exercise to burn off the calories of all the lovely home cooked treats.
Promised to be a lovely family holiday, having rented similar villa's in the area before.
However first thing on Monday morning, we were rudely awoken to the sound of jack hammers and excavators.
We contacted the owner straight away, who in turn sent round the caretaker. He asked not to contact the owner again due to a bereavement, which we honoured.
The noise was horrendous and well above the H&S limit in the UK and would go on from 8am to 5pm and sometimes even on a Saturday. It made it impossible to sit outside and most unpleasant inside, rendering the house a no-go zone by day.
We contacted the owner about a month later, feeling that was fair time. We requested a partial refund, as we had the choice of many houses and had we been made aware there was a potential for building noise, we would have chosen elsewhere. The owner offered a small discount on a second stay.
Due to the dishonesty of the owner, and the lack of recourse, we have never used owners direct again.
This beautiful, light, spacious, and airy 3 bedroomed luxury villa set on the hillside overlooking the small village of Gavalohori is a wonderful place to spend a holiday in Crete. The views from the villa's many verandas are especially excellent. The double bedroom has a comfortable bed, an en-suite bathroom and generous storage. The other 2 twin rooms were spacious and also had generous cupboard space. The rooms opened out onto the veranda down to the swimming pool, sadly not heated for winter. There was ample hot water on the sunny days and available within 20 minutes on a cloudy day. Centrally heated radiators and log fire for winter and air conditioning units for the summer, plus marble flooring and wooden surround windows and shutters, this villa is designed for comfort, whatever the weather. The villa uses 3 phase electricity which is surprisingly more expensive than in the UK, so budget for this or enquire whether it is part of the initial cost of rental.
We shared the villa as a couple but I would imagine that a family of six would have no problem fitting in here, although the dining area may become a bit crowded - but hopefully on a sunny day one would eat al fresco. With 2 bathrooms, a welcoming lounge with wifi (slow by British standards but adequate) and several verandas (so you can catch the sun wherever it is) there is plenty of space.
Gavalohori is an ideal location being only 4km from the beach at Almyrida, 9km from Kalives and the main E75 road to explore further afield, 6 km to Vamos, the capital of the province and 36 km (45 minutes) from Chania airport. Gavalohori itself has several small shops, albeit a steep walk downhill from the villa (though we bought mainly from INKA in Kalyves), a few good restaurants/tavernas - I recommend Monika's, an Australian Greek! However, there are many excellent restaurants, all serving delicious food, in the area such as Mithos in Kalyves, Elpis in Plaka, Meterizi in Kefalas and Parasia outside Vamos.
We really liked the space, beauty, and light in this villa and found it very luxurious compared with other villas we have rented in the winter in Crete.
