We love coming to Symi but I have found some of the accommodation rather basic in the past. Iapetos is definitely the answer: comfortable, clean and with a decent bathroom in which everything works. The staff are kind and helpful. The gardens are charming and we spent a happy day hanging around, using the pool andhaving drinks from the bar. If there is one criticism it is that the interior decoration is almost entirely devoid of style. Iapetos is very conveniently situated for the main port so it is just a short walk each morning to get to the taxi boats.

Room Tip: We were on the end of a row next to the lane which runs alongside the hotel - it might be nicer to b...

We really enjoyed our stay at Iapetos Village. We went there in spring, it's in the beginning of the season and very quiet. Iapetos is a charming hotel with a wonderful atmosphere centrally located in Symi town. It's built in a traditional style and have a small pool area, the rooms are well decorated. The staff was polite and helpful.

I was puzzled by fact that this hotel had lots of great reviews and one terrible one, but decided to book on the basis of the overwhelming majority. And we were not disappointed. I have no idea what that Australian's problem was, but his description was, in many respects, the polar opposite of our experience. In particular, the breakfasts are delicious, the staff, especially those organising the breakfasts, are faultlessly polite and considerate, the rooms are very comfortable, the place is very peaceful (the road running past is a very minor side street with hardly any traffic) and as for the barking dogs - maybe they'd gone to Battersea Dogs' home, because we never heard a bark all week!

Enough of debunking that nonsense - we spent a lovely week here in a large double room with a tiny balcony overlooking the gorgeous gardens. The large king-size bed was very comfortable, although the pillows are overstuffed with some foam substance. The air con was fairly effective, although it was a shame the unit was round the corner from the bed. The staff are very friendly and attentive and the whole place is very well looked after. The pool is very nice - quite chilly, but that is no bad thing in Greece in August. As there are so many great places to swim around the island, we made little use of the pool. The location is brilliant, being three minutes stroll from the harbour.

Symi itself is a lovely island. Very quiet - certainly not and 18-30 destination! We were recommended it by friends and loved it!

nice hotel, comfortable and well decorated rooms, good staff. it's a good choice in Symi as it is close to everything. Actually it is a little bit expensive (but in August is high season and anyway Symi is an an expensive island). Staff is helpfull, they arranged taxi to drive us to Panormitis Monastery, they also drived us to the port as we had heavy luggages. And the most important: the last day after the check-out at 12.00 we left aour luggages at the reception and when we came back at 18.00 to take it they offered us (free of charge) a small room for about one hour so we had a shower and got some arrest. In general is a nice hotel suitable for all kind of travellers offering a pleasant atmosphere.

i believe this resort is the best option for those who arrived to greece with kids, however for couples like us it would be a bit noisy. the location is great, very close to the town center, right by the central square. you can take a walk in the narrow streets of the town, but once you enter the gate of the resort you appear to be in an absolutely different place. the pool was a good thing, considering quite a distance to the nearest beach.

the whole idea of a traditional houses inside the town is perfect, however the resort occasionally gets quite messy and noisy (afternoons and evenings were ok, we were traveling around the island or having great time in the beach, but early mornings were a bit of a problem).

Having travelled a lot to Symi before I had kids, I was wondering what to do. Kali Strata and Chorio is beautiful in many ways, but not easy with children.
So I found out that they had build this new hotel in Yialos by the harbor.
We booked one go the Maisonettes, small houses in two floors. It just worked out perfectly. Beds enough for me, my wife and the three kids ages 2,5,8.
The swimming pool was a nice and chilling combination to the beach-trips - and a daily joy for all of us. Actually during one weeks stay we learned our two oldest kids to swim :)
The staff was friendly and very helpful - one day the Islands taxis were busy and they offered us a ride to the town beach.

Our recent stay at the Iapetos Village (June 2012) was a trully pleasant experience. Our initial reaction on entering the beautifully landscaped garden surrounded by the village- type appartments was "wow"! The welcome by the staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious , clean and very comfortable. It really felt good to be able to relax in such pleasant surroundings just a stones throw away from the hustle and bustle of the harbour. A real oasis!
