“Lovely service, fantastic dinner for buttons”
Reviewed September 14, 2012 via mobile

I'm sorry about rating the rooms without having seen them, but I couldn't review the restaurant on its own. We haven't stayed at the hotel, only came over for our wedding anniversary dinner from our rented cottage in Cútar (where there is no restaurant). After our 45 min walk across the hot and dry hills and slopes between Cútar and El Borge, frankly, any restaurant would have done the job, but OMG, didn't we have the most special meal Andalucia could offer!

The basic white table wine was remarkably delicious, I bet a bottle of it would cost a smaller fortune back home. Then came the starter: roast peppers and chips served with some sweet syrup - amazing. The mains were super too (grilled chicken breast with pepper sauce and grilled -giant- squid), both my husband and I were speechless, just enjoying our meals until the last few bites. And the deserts... Heavenly may be the word to describe the 3-chocolate cake as well as the large portion of tiramisu. I was completely full by this time but it was impossible to leave even a morsel on the plate.
After the meal we had a digestive on the house AND got a lift back to Cútar by the head waiter (taxis don't operate in this area) - what a lovely man he is!
I can't wait to be back to this lovely little town and (not leat) this precious restaurant.

ps.: I'm glad somebody took a photograph of the toilet, which was a phenomenon on its own.

El Posada del Bandolero is not the easiest place to find - the roads twist and turn up into the mountains and the village itself has narrow - in some places very narrow - streets. But the inn itself is welcoming, tucked away amidst the whitewashed houses, opposite a bench and a postbox. Inside, you are greeted by stone walls, plants, a large olive press and some iron bars which apparently bar the way to the bedrooms!
The owners are a pleasure to meet - friendly, helpful, communicative whatever your language (by sign or gesture if necessary - as was the case for us.)
The food is delicious. The first time we went on a Sunday lunchtime you could hardly hear the person next to you for the throng of local people. After we had eaten: roasted peppers and onion, tuna salad, grilled fish with garlic, lamb with aubergine, then three-layered chocolate pudding - I could understand what the excitement was about. To cap it all, we were given cava on the house afterwards.
Funnily enough, I vowed to return. The welcome and the food were just as good. The rooms lived up to expectations, too. They are simple - white walls, wooden blinds, painted washbasins, pebble-floored showers - and peaceful, atmospheric. Cool, too - aircon is provided.
It is hard to recommend Posada del Bandolero highly enough.

Room Tip: There is a room with a balcony which is fun!
