“Take the suit room!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2011

We stayed at this hotel off season. Hotel has great design, comfortable reception area with fireplace. We took a suit room. There were actually three rooms in it, great interrior, balcony, kitchen and stone bath in the bedroom. We didn't go to the restaurant in the evening, used the kitchen facilities and enjoyed the room and the view instead. There was a gym with latest equipment. The free spa included a small pool, two jaccuzi and a sauna. The hotel also had another spa with entrance fee, not included into the price for the room. This one had more jaccuzi including one outside and many saunas. There were negative sides in our stay as well, which were surprising, since one expects a perfect stay for that price. Reception personell wasn't very friendly even though we were almost the only customers. To the question about that other spa they said "Nah, nothing interesting, similar to the first spa". When asked about walking path for pram, the answer was "Nah, nothing special, there is nowhere to go". The first room we got had a very dirty toilet seat. In the brekfast buffet we found a two months old milk package. How many more mistakes before the price and quality ratio becomes incorrect!? Also shower space connected to the gym/spa department wasn't cleaned for a while. I guess next time I will go back to Strømstad Spa, I really like that place.

Room Tip: High floor, view, not too far from the reception.

I can understand that this hotel has won a designer price. It may be a favorite hotel for a single male below 30 with an urban lifestyle and who likes reading designer magazines. However, to me and many others, the hotel is very dark and dreary. The only colour used is dark brown and dark violet. Floors, walls and furniture. The bath rooms. The reception. The restaurant. Everyting is dark brown. I guess the overall impression could have been improved by introducing some lighter colours, like light gray (reflecting the very nice exterior of the hotel/appartments). And perhaps some spots of more lively colours like red and orange. In addtion much more electric lighting is needed in order to counterbalance the dark colours. The food was a disappointment and should be improved. Take a look at Rica Nidelven in Trondheim and their price awarded breakfast! What I did like was the grey weather-worn wood exterior. And the fitness room. And the sorroundings. I also think its good value for money since the prices of the rooms were not high compared with other hotels.

This is a typical conference hotel during the week and for families and couples during weekend. In the summer months there are great facilities for spa indoor and for hiking outdoor. In the winter skiing alpine and crosscountry combined with spa treatment would be the major activities.
The hotel and the separate houses are modern and very delicately furnished/decorated. It's a lot of dark brown trendy color combined with fitting furnitures/decorations.
The reception area is huge and overwhelming with a climbing wall using around 5-6 floors of height and a big seating area with fireplace.
The apartment I stayed in was very modern and had most facilities I needed. I'm not sure there was a deposit box there though, and no minibar either. There were ironing facilities and tv with good selection of channels. The room was spacious with 2 extra chairs in front of the tv.
There were 2 spas. I tried the inside/outside one on 7th floor with treatment and several types of jacuzzis. It's a great feeling to sit outside in a hot jacuzzi with the cold fresh mountain breeze enjoying a glass of wine/beer or champagne. After that it's good to enjoy some time inside in the sauna maybe combined with the small cold pool inside. I didn't try any spa treatment, so I can't really comment on that.
I know that there are also a pool and fitness center there, but since I didn't try them I can't comment on them. There's also indoor facilities for kids.
Outside the reception there's a big terrace with serving of food/drinks. It's a nice place to enjoy the sun and mountain air.
The area is quite big and developed. There's also a manmade lake with a beach there. There's a ski lift from the hotel that connects you to the alpine ski resort on the other side of the mountain. There are marked paths for hiking starting from the hotel.

I really like this hotel.

Rooms
The are many different kinds of rooms to choose from. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite/apartment inside the hotel. (There are other apartments in "the village" outside the hotel). The apartment was really nice. One bedroom with a confortable double bed and a bathtub, and the other bedroom has two single beds. Fully equiped kitchen, comfortable lounge, fireplace (gas), and a nice bathroom. There is also a cabinet to dry clothes, which can be really useful in the winter.

Restaurant
The breakfast has a good selection, and is very good. Several healthy options as well. In the evening you can choose between going to the buffet part of the restaurant, or to have a menu with 5 courses. We went for the latter and it was a delicious meal. There is also a pizza restaurant open in the high season.

Spa
Nice SPA. We were all happy about our treatments (facial, massage etc). But there were two minuses on the "activity spa". It should have been offered some more healthy drinks than just alcohol in the poolarea. Juices, shoothies, tea, as well as water with fruit in it would have been suitable. Also, the spa was a bit too crowded.

This is a great hotel. Wonderful atmosphere.

Had a great weekend with cross-country skiing, snowboarding, great food, especially the breakfast and a relaxing spa.

Had Champagne in the outdoor jacuzzi under the stars!

We stayed in the "Village" and had a great apartment direct into the tracks.

The combination of a beautiful location, amazing design, comfort and not at least excellent service level makes this one of the best hotels I have ever visited.
