“Nice hotel with good service”
Reviewed January 9, 2014 via mobile

Nice hotel in Zanzibar with good service and not bad food. Lots of Italians and French. Ocean coast not very good and pool quite small.
Pretty sand, some different sport games makes some differ during the day.
Locals are annoying, but not allowed to the territitory.
May be excellent for some "relaxing" rest cause no any disco or other entertainment around. Perfect for reading books :))))

We spent a week at Sansdies Mapenzi Beach Club in November 2013. Once we arrived, we were greeted with a cold drink and a refreshing towel. After getting the key to our bungalow, we were led to our accommodation. The hut we were staying at, was separated from other similar buildings, very spacious with comfy beds, mosquito nets, AC, large bathroom, mini fridge stocked on a daily basis and some wardrobe to hang your stuff in. Stepping out of the room you could chill out or to have a nap on the terrace as there was extra sofa with pillows. Overall the accommodation was perfect, clean, well-kept and nicely furnished. The Mapenzi Hotel can boast about a wonderful garden with plenty of palm trees, 2 bars, one next to the swimming pool and the second one at the beach, good access to the beach with shallow and warm water, sufficient number of sunbeds and umbrellas. The whole area is perfectly maintained, very clean with fine, powdery sand, very green and extremely peaceful. Hardly ever all the sunbeds were taken throughout the day. The bars are serving drinks from 10 am to 12 pm. Excellent service and very nice employees making your stay comfortable and pleasant. The food served in the main restaurant was very delicious. I don't remember a dish or a single thing I would find inedible or not tasty. Plenty of choice from fish to all sorts of meat. Great and sweet fruits, especially my fave one, passion fruits :) Once a week they are throwing a garden dinner underneath the palm trees with barbecue and other local cuisine specialties. All food was great and variable enough to let everybody eat what they like the most. The only thing that bothered me was the opening hours of the swimming pool, unfortunately we couldn't swim longer than 6 pm which was rather odd. I can bet there would always be a handful of people willing to swim once they came back from daily trips outside the hotel. I may be wrong but I would make the opening hours of the pool a bit longer. Apart from that we had an amazing time and great vacations in this hotel. Incredible African architecture of the whole resort, beautiful garden and nice beach close by, delicious food, spotless rooms, free wi-fi internet accessible only at the main facilities but still free of charge are only a few of the distinguishing features that make this place incredible and a perfect place to experience great Zanzibar holidays.

We have just come back from a week at this resort on the East coast of Zanzibar. The rooms, staff, facilities and food were all of a high standard. The excursions we went on included swimming with dolphins, touring a spice farm, exploring the mangroves exploring Stone Town, a forest experience with red colobus monkeys, a trip to the north to a turtle conservancy and snorkeling of the reef. All these excursions were easy to book through African encounters at the hotel. Very reasonable with well informed guides.
Zanzibar is really hot and humid. There are lots of water sports available.

Room Tip: The rooms on the beach look lovely but are a bit too close to the Beach boys for comfort. The cheape...

We had a nice room on the beach. The food and drinks were great, especially the cocktail menu.
We were there at full moon which means the tide was in early morning and early evening, a wonderful time to swim in a benign ocean. The staff were amazing there was nothing they would not do to keep guests happy. A gardener climbed a coconut palm to fetch me a madafu (drinkable green coconut) every day. Fruit on every buffet was wonderful and you could eat something all . the Hotel policy of all inclusive is wonderful. Good cocktails. good wine and good food. Air conditioned room, nice beach there is nothing to complain about and i was one of our better holidays.

Such helpful, friendly staff. Shame about about some of the other guests. amazing resort, lovely beaches and super beach huts with fresh flowers every day. Truly made our honeymoon special and we are missing it already.

Room Tip: Try and get one of the beach front huts as they are to die for>

Had a 3 night stay in October 2013.
Friendly warm welcome on arrival. Rooms upgrades were handled quickly and efficiently.
Rooms were clean and cool and had beautiful views.
The restaurant was fantastic, and the food was really good - dessert table was divine.
We had a problem with our A/C, but they fixed it day 1, and when it broke again, we were moved to another room.
Pizza restaurant was great. The beach bar and beach staff were helpful, albeit a bit slow.
But all in all, it was a fantastic stay, enjoyed by all 14 people in our party.
Only problem was the 'beach boys' - very irritating, but I suppose not the hotels problem.

Room Tip: Beach rooms are really great. They will upgrade at the hotel on arrival at a nominal charge if rooms...
