“Beach Republic Resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2014

We were fortunate to find a deal for six nights stay at the Beach Republic Resort at the northern end of Lamai Beach through Deals.com. The resort is about 30 minutes drive from the airport and is situated between Chaweng and lamai Beaches, an excellent postion for access to both locations.

Our room was spacious, clean and well appointed and it had a small kitchen with all the necessary appliances, crockery and cutlery provided. They even left a little treat for us in the fridge each night which was a nice touch. The attention to detail in this resort is so good that they had an extensive list of pillow types that you could choose from to make your sleeping arrangements tailor made for comfort.

The staff at Beach Republic were friendly and engaging and nothing was too much trouble for them.

We really enjoyed the two for one cocktails during "happy hour" and the sandy beach on which the resort is located in charming. A big thank you to Clare, Christina and their staff for making our stay comfortable and lots of fun. We particularly enjoyed the cooking class in which we learnt to prepare and cook five Thai dishes.

The resort arranged our airport transfers and we also made use of the spa for massages after a few hectic days of shopping and site-seeing.

All in all, a first class establishent that we highly recommend.

We enjoyed our two night stay at the two-bedroom tropical villa: very comfortable, good sized swimming pool, privacy, nothing to complain. Our intention was to acclimatize for 2 nights after a long-haul flight and before starting our Thailand tour, and the BR tropical villa fully met that intention.

The public parts of the resort left us with some mixed feelings. Overall the atmosphere is nice and laid back; the beach is a bit disappointing, small and a bit dirty. Biggest draw back were the two small resort swimming pool, as they were hot as soup during our stay. In all other hotels/resorts we visited in Thailand, they were cooled. A pity this was not the case in BR.

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, just at the moment they were shutting down their Sunday. We wanted to order a few snacks and some drinks, but were told we had to wait an hour until they were done with the brunch. I get the impression this brunch is a big thing for them, but they shouldn't let the normal service suffer from it.

We anyhow had a decent dinner that night. But returning the other day for the (included) breakfast, we were set offside when told we would have to pay an additional charge for the cappuccino we ordered (as alternative to the horrible coffee they served at breakfast). I really believe that place that charge serious money for accommodation, don't understand what good customer service is about if they come with these extra charges. Even worse, when we checked out after paying the bill, we were told that the forgot to charge three Nespresso cups. Initially, I liked the fact that there was a Nespresso machine installed in the villa, but apparently I wasn't aware of the fact that you had to pay for each cup used. It is little money at the end, but hey.... If you pay 14,000 BAHT a night, don't come with ridiculous extra charges of 100 BAHT per coffee cup used.

If it wasn't for these little things, I would certainly come back to BR.

Came here with both my partner and my parents and we all loved it! It's sad to see some negative reviews about the service as we felt that was one of the strong points they were very helpful and attentive all the food and cocktails we had were great! And the breakfast buffet has everything you could want. The location is just between lamai and chaweng so you need a taxi to get anywhere but they provide free shuttles. The rooms are modern and spacious with kitchens and a large fridge and the turn down service they provide is a nice touch. The DJ by the pool plays some great music the only down points were that a bad smell from next door often drifted across to the pool area and also most of the outdoor furniture was very faded and in need of a quick revamp.

Nice setting but a classic case of how people make the place...the service was none existent we hailed 2 waiters and ordered twice and still no drinks arrived! After 45 mins of waiting and listening to pretentious idiots drinking cheap champagne and flicking cigarette ash in the pool we left.. Thank god we did, as we found far better places with fantastic service, genuine people at a fraction of the price...

Thank you (and your friend) for both making Beach Republic your first review on TripAdvisor! The services you experienced was unacceptable if true. Any guest flicking ash into the pool would of course be asked to leave. Pretentiousness I suppose is in the eye of the beholder.

My boyfriend and I visited for the Sunday DJ session in April.
We were very disappointed!

The service is terrible! The prices are extortionate and the people pretentious...
Unless you buy the bottle service you can forget about being served.

My suggestion if your looking for a fun day/night of a similar venue, would be that you head to cha cha moon in chaweng......
:-)

Thank you for making Beach Republic your very first review on TripAdvisor!

In reality our Sunday Sessions brunch put us on the map and has kept us there. It's become an island institution and is known well across SE Asia, the Pacific, and even Europe. The value
that we are able to provide is amazing. Ribeye beef, Roast lamb, Roast turkey, Sea Bass, Fine De Claire oysters, Maine Lobster, Alaskan King Crab, Thai selections, salad bar, sushi, cold meats, international cheese board, Thai station, and much more enjoyed in a stunning ocean front setting with two infinity pools and live entertainment, all for about US$45! In all seriousness, what you you propose would be a fair price for such an event?

And the people at Beach Republic are anything but pretentious. That's actually one of the things that has kept us popular year after year. All walks of life feel welcome and at ease at Beach Republic. It really is a very special atmosphere.

As for the service, please read the other reviews here and decide for yourself.

Thanks again for the review!

Stayed in beginning of April. I highly reccommend. If you are on the fence about booking, just go for it!!! Beach Republic was a dream. We stayed in a modern pool villa, this was the ideal situation. It had all the perks of a 5 star hotel, with the privacy and feeling of your own private residence. Amenites in pool villa were amazing, Extremely clean, full kitchen, outdoor shower and sunbed on the roof. The private pool in the villa was deeper and more refreshing than expected.
The common pool was easy to find a sunbed and Sunday brunch a great way to spend a day and was worth booking. They had some very helpful "hosts" who made sure anything you needed was within reach. They took the time to explain the island and give some helpful recomendations without being pushy or overbearing. You truly felt like you were being hosted by friends. 2 Weddings took place while we were there. They looked very nice, but did not interfere with our stay. There are many close alternative options for food and laundry, as the in house laundry and dining were a bit pricey for everyday. If you can do a Villa, you will not regret!!
