“Awesome Hotel”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Just came back from vacation at Beach Republic with husband and 23 year old son. We stayed in one of the private Tropical Villas. Everything about this hotel was wonderful ! The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The facilities were beautiful and right on the beach. The food was excellent. Lastly, the town was in walking distance from the hotel.

Although there is a gym at the hotel, my son and I were able to run the road in the early morning
for some distance despite the scooters and cars. It is not, however, for the faint of heart. Also,
we are serious cyclists and contacted Samui Bicycles a shop within walking distance from the hotel who took us on a private 3 hour bike tour through the island.

We stood in a Two Bedroom Penthouse Sky Villa. First of all: the rooms look more or less exactly like presented on the webpage. The pool and beach area are very well decorated and it was a pleasure to stay there especially in the evenning and enjoying the sundown. Concerning service: it was a pleasure to enjoy the service provided by the Thai staff.

All in all it was worth to stay at Beach Republic.

Why only "nearly excellent"? One major disadvantage is the coral reef in front of the hotel beach which is covered by a mixture of rocks, sand and mud. The waterlevel depends on the tide and is between 50 and 100 cm. And you can walk for nearly 1 km before reaching deeper water. Swimming should not be your target when joining the Beach Rebulic.

Another advantage is the noise. There is a highly frequented road nearby and - management mistake - the staff is lawn mowing, breaking up the concrete road using a simple hand drill, or there are busses waiting for pax with motor on to keep the AC running. This list can be continued.

Another "minus" for the breakfast: it is tasty and everything is in good quality, but the choice of food is very limited. Not good if you want to stay at the Beach Republic for let's say 14 days. A hint to the chef de cuisine: more Thai food and less beans or sausages would improve the breakfast. A second hint: it is absurd to offer Japanese wasabi with Chinese dim sum. A third one: a sauce nicoise is not 100% mustard.

Concerning the Sunday Brunch, the Beach Republic management has to decide what they want to present: a relaxing hotel or a disco. Anyway, the pool is crowded and the music noisy each Sunday and I assume that no every hotel guest loves beer drinking teens in the pool.

Thank you for choosing Beach Republic and thank you for taking the time to write a review here. I am pleased that overall you had a good stay with us.

Regarding the beach, there are fabulous swimming beaches both a 15 minute walk to the South and a 2 minute drive to the North.

I apologize that you were disturbed by some noise during your stay. There was some urgent maintenance to be conducted at that time. As far as the buses waiting with the air con on, we have decided to move this waiting down to the car park area thus eliminating the noise.

I am a bit surprised at your comments regarding the breakfast. We offer a huge range of items and have been consistently complimented on the breakfast from our long term guests.

Sunday Sessions is our signature event and for a few hours each week, the party can sometimes really get going. However the vast majority of time, Beach Republic is a casual and mellow place to hang out, enjoy a drink or two, sample excellent cuisine, and take a dip in the pool.

Thank you again for choosing Beach Republic and we hope to welcome you back again soon.

Just loved chilling on the beds facing the beach to the cruisy music. Room spacious, food/wine excellent and all nicely presented. Really enjoyed the stay at this resort and the staff were most welcoming and helpful to this solo guest. Spa v appreciated. Good bang for buck also. Only negative is fitness room needs some updating.
Would love to write more all positive but just dont have the time and it even took a while to get this online.

Room Tip: The higher the better - rooms are spacious but no real view for standard rooms

Thank you very much for your comments. I'm very happy that you had a good stay with us. Over the last couple of months we have upgraded many parts of the Republic. You are right that our gym is due for an upgrade and that will be done very soon. The new team is very determined to take Beach Republic to the next level. I hope to personally welcome you back very soon!

My husband and I stayed at this resort and it was our first experience of resort life and we will definitely do it again! We were picked up at the airport and check in was done quickly and efficiently. Our accommodation was a one bedroom deluxe apartment and it had all we needed and more. It had a fully equipped kitchen, lounge room with a television and dvd player; a large bedroom with its own television and a large bathroom with shower and spa bath. Our balcony had a table and chairs and another spa bath for outdoor luxury! The apartment had modern décor and there were 4 complimentary bottles of water each day. A welcome plate of fruit and several shot glasses of fruit delights were placed in our room each evening along with the Manifesto of the activities around the resort the next day. Free wifi connection was available also.

All the staff were friendly and there were smiles all around and if anyone needed anything, big or small, one of the staff would always help out.

The breakfast buffet was extensive and freshly prepared and was served in the Beach Club area overlooking the sea. Food and drink was available all day and whilst there we participated in a cooking class and are now adept at the art of basic Thai cooking thanks to the organiser, Toy Lek and the young chef, Kuck and we have a certificate to prove it! We also went on a 4 hour tour of the island to get a better understanding of what was on the island other than just the resorts.

The food was excellent under the guidance of Head Chef Martin and we experienced the Wednesday Asian Buffet and the special Fine Dining Experience promotion to celebrate my special birthday. Exquisite!

Beach Republic is definitely a top class resort with excellent facilities and it has its own Spa Massage Centre and we can highly recommend the foot and body massages.

I stayed at The Beach Republic for 10 nights. I stayed in the Club Suit. I was very impressed with the cleanliness and furnishings of the room for the very good price i paid. The room was a very good size and a nice sized balcony. The staff were welcoming and lovely. The pool area and restaurant/ bar was very beautiful. The Sunday Brunch is a must.

We were a party of 9 including teenagers and 8 year olds and booked the 4 bedroom tropical villa. We all without exception loved it! The villa was gorgeous with high quality furnishings and bedding. The pool was fab and we alternated between our own private pool and the great atmosphere at the beach club. The staff were lovely and will really go out of their way to help. We were there on a Sunday and the atmosphere at the Sunday Brunch was great although we were soo full from eating too much at breakfast we didn't pay for brunch although the food looked amazing - loads of choice and excellent quality. A lovely touch was that they allowed my 14 year old niece who sings and plays the guitar to do a "gig" and she used a set next to the DJ to perform a few songs (check her out on you tube Katy Cottrell) We liked Lamai and loved the street food which we brought back to our villa and had a feast on our own terrace overlooking our own pool - bliss! We would recommend the Indian street food , fruit smoothies and pad thai from the small food stall market next to the Thai boxing stadium. Would recommend walking 2 minutes to the main road and flagging down a songthaew into Lamai or Chaweng if the free shuttle is not convenient.
All in all a wonderful place - can't wait to go back

We had stayed for 5 nights at Beach Republic. From other reviews we had made a conclusion that hotel is very good hence our expectations were quite high.
We had booked One Bedroom Penthouse poll villa as we were travelling as a couple but had bed upgraded for Two bedroom Penthouse pool villa for free.
The room was really perfect. Extremely well furnished and fitted with all very modern appliances.
Pool was clean. But the main value of the room is the sliding doors which are when fully opened had a span of around 5 meters. And a Sea View was just stunning.
In room keeping excellent.
Beach club is a right place to relax with a chilling out atmosphere. Cocktails were tasty.
The only possible minus to the hotel as almost lack of any private area. Actually hotel consists of a 3 store building and a small valley to reach the beach and the Club. But this minor issue is well compensated with all above advantages. Normally taxi could be taken to Lamai beach ( around 150 bath) or a walk of approx. 1,5 km.
Being back at home tried to remember any possible complaints \ drawbacks of the hotel at its stuff but failed. No complaints at all.
Conclusion: No real disadvantages. Extremely nice and lovely place. Very good service. Perfect value for money.
