“Why we chose Rocky's”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2013

We came to Koh Samui for our daughter's wedding and we wanted everything to be perfect. We spent hours reading reviews and trying to make sense of websites and their promises. In the end we reckoned Rocky's was the best bet.
First off...it is much better than the website suggests. This is a wonderful private resort. The standards are very high, guests were happy and we were very well looked after. What amazed us was how welcoming and happy the staff were. We felt this was genuine and not just "taught".
The beach is relatively small but the swimming great and they have free kayaks, masks, snorkels and so on.
The food was really good. Prices were equivalent to good dining in the UK ( up north that is ).
There are special nights...one for Lobster, one for Thai food and so on.
Our room was light and airy, it was well cleaned and we had a good view of the ocean.
We took the hotel long boat for a day trip and really enjoyed ourselves.
This is a quality hotel and well worth the trip.

Room Tip: Our room was number 806 and we would chose that again.

We cannot speak more highly of this resort. From our initial welcome to the final farewells everything was perfect. All the staff were fantastic - helpful, friendly and just couldn't do enough to make it a very special experience.
The accommodation is beautifully appointed - no sense of a hotel - but rather a stylish home filled with flowers and individual touches. Daily cleaning keeps everything pristine and an added lovely touch is to come back in at night and find the bed turned down and a couple of local sweets to nibble on.
The food is amazing - we feasted on 2 Thai banquets during our stay with local musicians and dancers to add to the experience. The buffet was a feast for the eyes as much as for the palette and the variety of real Thai cuisine was astonishing. On other occasions we ate in the Bistro where the varied menu of Thai and European dishes are there to be enjoyed with a cocktail or a glass of wine. Imagine the surprise of the Chef appearing at your table to explain how he constantly wants to try new dishes - sometimes blending Thai and European traditions - and asking for any thoughts or suggestions! We couldn't give any, because everything was perfect.
On our first night in the resort we tried the Thai taster meal for two - this was four beautifully presented curries and accompanying dishes. Later on in our stay, we had a carb craving and indulged in a pizza - naughty, but incredibly nice!
Could go on for hours, but, in a nutshell, Rocky's is a once in a lifetime experience and we're so privileged to have been there.

Room Tip: We had an ocean view suite - stunning views all around. We were fine with the steps up to the apartm...

Thank you, indeed our theme nights are very popular with good value for money food and live entertainment. I love the cabaret show on Sunday night the best.

We really enjoyed the stay and everything was as viewed on the website .it was relaxing and fabulous location. We felt there could have been more evening entertainment but a shuttle to Lamai got us out and about.we had 1 awkward moment when seated by a staff member one evening in someone else's table which they had pre-booked .. Embarrassing especially when the other guests went off at us.. Didn't like the way the staff handled it either. The main reason I am doing this review is I got dengue fever from mosquito bite ended up sick in Phuket and then in Singapore my fantastic doctor, worked it back and was sure I had got it in Koh Samui.. They spray regularly for Mosquitos but be alert and use personal spray. I would recommend this resort as a great stay apart from the above.

Thank you, Seated at the wrong table, ooopss! Easily done, my apologies. Regarding you contracting Dengue fever, can you work it back a little more, There are no know cases on Samui, The only prevalent areas of Thailand which it is slightly possible to contract Dengue fever is in the north east near the Lao/Cambodia borders.

It was a very wonderful stay at Rocky's. There are lot of good things about Rocky's. They pay so much attention to small small things & every detail possible. Very helpful staff. Kai & Boi made our stay really wonderful. As soon as we arrived at the hotel our luggage was taken care of, welcome drink was offered & with few formalities we were ready to check in. The location is perfect & private beach is just makes it perfect. The complimentary cocktail night on friday was amazing. Rocky's will make your stay worthwhile.

Room Tip: We have booked Garden View room but we were upgraded to Ocean view room. I am glad that they upgrade...

I stayed at Rocky's for a week in March whilst attending a wedding being held there. I arrived late in the evening and the drive from the road down to the hotel was beautiful with all the lights in the trees. I was given a warm welcome and shown to my garden view room. The room was very comfortable and well appointed. Small touches like flowers on the towels were lovely. The breakfast each morning was very good. There was a selection of cold food from the buffet and hot dishes could be ordered. The evening meals I ate there were also good if a little expensive. The pool areas are good even if the beach-side pool is rather small for swimming. My main disappointment was the beach, which is very small, and the sea which was murky and very shallow with a rocks under foot. If the beach had been better I would have awarded the hotel 5 stars but for me swimming in the sea is something I enjoy so it was a disappointment. If you're not bothered about that then I would recommend this hotel for a quiet relaxing holiday. As others have commented, there are weddings most weeks and the hotel does them very well. However, it does mean that there can be groups of people who know each other around the resort which could be a disadvantage for couples on their own. I ate at the Thai restaurant down the road from the hotel several times and the food there is good and cheap. I used the hotel car with driver for a tour of the island which was enjoyable, particularly the elephant ride. All-in-all a great hotel with excellent service.

Thank you, it is true that the water is shallow certain times of the year but I am sure that our very secluded beaches do make up for it. Being private they (we have 2 separate beaches) do stop vendors gaining access to our resort.
There are currently 18 sunbeds on the beaches, shortly being increased to 26, with many other sunbeds around our 3 pools.

Rocky's is a beautiful resort. A fairy wonderland at night. Trees come alive with tiny lights, tea candles flicker below the lower vegetation and a tree in the middle of the entry roundabout is reminiscent of scenes from Avitar.

The location is beautiful, so many Samui locations are, but Rockies is indeed special.

Other guests here are nice and wow, if you’re looking for a romantic wedding on the beach with beautiful flowers, and the blessing of monks, then this is your place for your second marriage, not for your first one though.... The place is for older couples and not really kid friendly for your guests kids or funky enough for your fun times.. No music really to speak off.... Just the sound of the ocean lapping gently on the shore.

Here is the catch though..... There is trouble in paradise..... and its in the kitchen..
Having been here before our expectations were high. Then I rated it 4/5. Now its 2 / 5 ..

The kitchen and the food.......
We arrived at 3 pm and sat down in the beautiful beachfront restaurant. The nice waitress seemed harassed and annoyed…. at our arrival? No smile and no greeting, barely a word…
We asked for a table on the terrace for three and she led us to a 2 seater and swiftly and deftly spun the table into a 3 seater. The table is cleverly bolted to the floor for easy rotation. Not a word and she was off. Ten minutes later she was back to take our order. Don't ask for Thai food at this beautiful beachfront location because it’s not on the menu. No problem, the European menu, (Italian ) is great…. though we are on the beachfront and this is Thailand... You decide... . The European food does not impress. Spaghetti marinara …. the spaghetti wass dried and shrivelled after being forgotten under the griller, to either reheat, melt the parmesan or had been kept warm after lunchtime service. I suspect a bit of all three. The marinara was not a mix of seafood. A few prawns in a barely ok napolitaine sauce. The salmon Penne, well not fresh cream, and very bland. The chicken avocado sandwich, ok, though you need to get past the buttered, well, margarine ( sunflower oiled ) toasted bread and average salad. Lunch, 2 cocktails and a smoothie for just under 3000 bt. Fine if the food lived up to the reputation but not this time.
Being one to give the place a second chance, off to breakfast we go. Again the amazing location and beautiful flowers and a wish for that Rockies charm and delicious cuisine……
Blueberry pancakes.. doughy.
Spanish omelette… dry , rubbery and aweful
Scrambled egg’s on toast with Salmon…. Finally ok….

The room is lovely, though the air conditioning was out and was blowing hot air. Rockies maintenance was onto it and fixed quickly after a new gas and maybe replacement of the faulty compressor.
Lovely beachfront family suite room overlooking the water… What you have read is true…

Watch out for the neighbouring resorts dogs….. They do attack. The latest stats on Rabies in Thailand is that 20 % of dogs carry this deadly virus…. meaning you need to be vaccinated prior to your visit or carry a stick or in our case be close to the water to dive into to escape…... Just as well the water was nearby for one in our group was attacked by 2 dogs barking and baring teeth that came at her at the end of the beach. She had to dive into the water and questioned her " over reaction until looking back saw the dogs fiercly barking from the shore..

DON’T let your children walk the beach without, rabis shots the warning of “ get away quick if a dog comes at you” You don’t know if a dog is diseased by looking at it… and it is 1 in 5 that carry the vius….. Post bit treatment is available on the island… but take the threat seriously… and if you do get bitten get treatment. It may save your life. See travellingwell.com.au

We recently got married at Rocky’s and we can’t thank them enough for making our wedding perfect. Our wedding planner Ann’s attention to detail was impeccable and no request too difficult. She really did go the extra mile to ensure that the wedding was everything we hoped and planned for.

The resort itself is nothing short of amazing. Every detail impressed, from the beautiful gardens and surrounds to the fantastic Thai food. The cooked breakfasts were delicious. One of our guests was a coeliac and Rocky’s were able to cater every meal. We loved the cooking class and learnt many skills we’re using at home.

The staff were always very friendly and helpful. Very special thanks to Ann, Julien, Martin, Boi, Tiew, Poly, Nok and Mira for making us feel at home. All of our guests who stayed at Rocky’s had a fantastic experience and we will certainly be back as soon as we can.
