“Excellent rooms”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

We had a wonderful 3 days at The Renaissance. The rooms offered us everything we could want. The private pool was delightful and the layout of the room was perfect for a couple. We were very happy with room service although we found the menu a little limited. We would have given this a perfect score, but it rained the whole time. Therefore we did not get to enjoy all the facilities. Great spot, but would recommend a car if you stay longer than a few days.

My husband and I stayed at the Reinassance in ko samui during our honeymoon. We travelled from north to south in Thailand and we' ve had some great experiences with other luxury and not luxury accommodations but we cannot say the same for this resort. We booked a deluxe room with ocean view because we didn' t want to be surrounded by walls as in a villa room. The deluxe rooms are in a building across the street from the reception ,further away from the beach and the ocean view was almost completely obstructed by trees (we were at the 4th, maybe on the 5th or 6th it was better). This building it' s ten minutes walk from the beach/pool. We like to walk but the path felt boring. The room was clean and we had a jacuzzi tub on our balcony that make our stay more special. The service was good (not great) everyone was nice and welcoming. The transfer from the airport that they offer to you it ' s expensive, we took a minibus from the airport at 350 bath for two and to come back we called a taxi that we paid 500 bath.
The HIGHLIGHTS of this resort were the infinity pool (beautiful area), the lap pool, and the BBQ buffet on the beach they organize once a week, we recommend to reserve it because it is worth. The location of the resort, offering a lovely view of lamai beach . The nice welcome at the check- in with mango ice cream and cold towel to refresh.
THE AVERAGE things was the breakfast, they offer fresh eggs to make but the pastry and the bread were average. We expected more from a 5 stars Resort, based on our previous experiences. We had a dinner at Banana leaf, Ok food, but expensive.
THE POOR thing: The beach is very small, the sand is not soft (small rocks and broken seashells), and the water too shallow to get into (knee deep). We were really disappointed because the water in other place in ko samui is beautiful. We ended up using their free transfer (very efficient) to the beautiful Chaweng and Lamai beaches and enjoyed the ocean. If you enjoy spending all day at the pool the reinassance is perfect for you otherwise there are many other places right on the beach, less expensive but clean and comfortable. , with a wonderful sea were you can go in and swim and do whatever you want. As you would expect from a 5 star resort, everything is very expensive; from a massage down to a bottle of water, everything is 3-4 times more than other place outside. it' s like they wanted to squeeze as many bath as possible throughout the experience. There is not internet free for guests in the room, just in the public area. Free internet should be the standard nowadays. this resort has average standards as luxury hotel. The overall experience was compromised by the inability to enjoy the ocean. All of us can get an amazing pool close to home, you don' t need to go to ko samui for that. It' s good for families who don' t want to go outside and that prefer to be at the pool all day.

Room Tip: deluxe rooms are ok but far away from the beach.

Dear Pirkipi -

Greetings from the Renaissance Koh Samui! Thank you very much for taking the time to review your honeymoon stay at our resort!

I am happy to hear that you enjoyed our pools, the beach BBQ and the arrival experience.

While we offer a private airport pick up in one of our SUV's with a team member greeting you, refreshments in the car as well as first hand information on what there is to discover on the island at THB 900 per trip, there is indeed the option to go for a more economic transport by taxi or public van. Thank you also for commenting on the pastries offered. While we offer freshly baked breads, rolls, croissants, donuts and pretzel rolls, I am afraid that you just missed our new introductions that include cinnamon bread amongst others. We have already discussed your comment though to see what other offerings we can provide.

During your stay the tide was indeed low, we are happy to report though that in the coming weeks, the water is getting deeper successively. Lastly I would like to share with you that we offer free Internet access to our Marriott Rewards members in addition to the free Internet in the public areas.

Dear Pirkipi, I sincerely hope that besides the valuable comments you enjoyed a wonderful honeymoon and should I be able to assist you in any way in the future, please contact me via killian.donoghue@renaissancehotels.com.

his resort is the perfect resort if you're looking for a very clean, 4 star resort that is close enough to the main chewing beach/shopping district but not smack in the mix of things. It's about 10 minutes to the center of action ( by car) so you can experience the hustle and bustle of ko samui . Friendly staff, good food, cold drinks. We stayed in a deluxe room type, room was very nice, comfortable but not private because of my room near the stair we heard every thing ,and could not sleep.Renaissane have a lot of big trees smell fresh and love green. The main pool was very nice for child. The sea beach can't swim because of fossil corals.

Dear Pnn N -

Greetings from Koh Samui and thank you very much for your feedback!

I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay at our resort and especially liked our deluxe rooms and location. My apologies that you were disturbed due to the location of the room next to the stairs. Did you know that you can inquire an extra quiet room location through our eConcierge which you will receive together with your reservation confirmation or directly with the hotel? I would be very happy to assist you with arranging the same for your next stay. You can reach me via killian.donoghue@renaissancehotels.com.

In regards to the corals in the ocean, we actually provide flip flops in our villas to keep you save when going into the water.

Hoping to welcoming you again soon at the Renaissance and "sawasdee"

It's one of the more expensive hotels on the quieter side of the island and while the price may not be everyone's cup of tea; if it is within your budget, I say go for it.

We checked in late on the first night and the staff were still friendly and they brought out refreshments and led us to the room, still offering a tour of it.
The room was very comfortable though there were no locks on the toilet + shower doors. We got a seaview room but because we weren't too near the beach, the just saw a lot of the hotel's flora. The room we booked also came with an outdoor jacuzzi tub thing.
Buffet breakfast was paid for and pretty nice, while the pool was just so pretty with many Frangipani trees and poolside chairs to rest on.

They offer activities like Muay Thai, Yoga and even Thai language crash course classes.

90% of the staff were friendly but again, the downside is probably just the cost of staying here. Although not exactly in the night-active parts of the island, the island is relatively small so getting to and fro doesn't take long at all. You should rent a car like we did.

We stayed at this hotel in January this year. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a villa (because we are Marriott Platinum) and the villa was nice, spacious and it even had an outside jacuzzi.

The breakfast which was included for us was the best breakfast we have had with lots of fresh fruit, cook to order eggs, bread, cheese, etc. They even made us fresh coconut smooties every morning.

The staff at this resort is wonderful and always available to assist the quests.

Beach is small but good and most reviewers are right there are a lot of broken shells and corral when walking along the beach or if you go into the water. But if people should read reviews before going to this resort they should bring watershoes.

We rented a car for a day through the hotel and that was perhaps a bit more expensive than renting a car outside the resort but well worth because hotel staff helped you with everything.

We only eat once at the hotel and that was good.

We highly recommend this hotel for anyone who like to spend a romantic holiday in Koh Samui.

Thank you also for mentioning the shells and corals in the water. Besides bringing your own water shoes, did you know that we also provide two pairs of flip flops in each villa?

A second visit to a property is a real test and the Renaissance again passed with flying colours.

Thank you to all the hotel management and team, coming to the resort again was like coming home, we had a wonderful stay. The upgrade to a garden villa was great, the extra room traveling with a 12 year old made all the difference.

I would like to thank the F&B Manager Diddier in particular, mate you made our holiday special. Thank you.

We all look forward to coming back soon, hopefully at Christmas for our third stay.
