“Excellent for the price, the beach sucks tough”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

The villas, rooms, bathrooms and the resort in general is extremely well-built with a lot of attention to detail, and this really feels like a high-quality resort that costs more than you pay for. It feels almost as nice at Six Sense Samui, which has entry-level rooms 4 times more expensive.

The beach, however, is rocky and shallow, and you can't really swim there. Your satisfaction will depend on whether instant access to the sea is important to you or not.

Dear European_Ben,

Thank you for noticing the quality and details of the resort design based heavily on Feng Shui concepts and natural materials used to make guests feel relaxed and at home while also giving a sense of place on the island. It is always important to feel that value for money is received.

While the beach does get shallow during low tide periods around this time of year, the long stretch also offers beautiful and peaceful strolls. Moreover, we offer daily shuttle service to some of the most beautiful beaches on the island called Coral Cove and Silver Beach. Both are just minutes away. Our 224-meter floating pier also offers a very unique venue for guests to explore the waters and dine under the night skies.

As you seemed to really enjoy the facilities otherwise, we hope that you will return to stay on a future visit.

Sincerely,
Tina

The hotel is small and quiet which I prefer. Feel very chill out and relaxed. Only one restaurant but serve good food and nice view. The pool is not big as most of the rooms have private pool access except Verandha suite. Bedroom is small but bathroom large. Friendly helpful staffs. About 10 mins to Lamai shopping street by taxi. Hotel offers shuttle service. We had wonderful times and wish that we were there longer. Will definitely be back.

Dear MLBKK,

We are glad that you felt very relaxed while staying at the resort. In fact, the resort design is actually heavily influenced with Feng Shui concepts as well.

We are also glad that you enjoyed dining with us. Latest Recipe is indeed our signature restaurant while Latitude 9 serves a Tapas menu and our latest new unique venue, since June, on the Ocean Pier serves evening drinks and dinner as well. We call it the Starlight Dinner or Full Moon Dinner where you can gaze up in to the night skies and experience a very special setting. If you didn't have a chance to try, please do so on a return visit.

As for the rooms, it is correct that most suites or villas have some access to a pool whether it is the indoor plunge pool in the Plunge Pool Suites, the Pool Access Suites with direct access in to semi-private pools, the 16 sqm private pool in the Pavilion Pool Villa or the ultimate 25 sqm infinity pool in the Ocean Front Pool Villa with breathtaking views of the Gulf of Thailand. Only the Verandah and Terrace Suites are not in some way connected to the pools although some of the Terrace Suites do overlook them. The main pool itself is 320 sqm.

While the resort grounds are quietly hidden, it is also very accessible on to the main ring road making getting out easy and as you mentioned, Lamai town is only about 5 minutes away by car and 10 minutes to Chaweng.

As you mentioned that you will definately be back, we look forward to seeing you at Le Meridien Koh Samui again!

Sincerely,
Tina

Couldn't get in the hotel we wanted so the Le Meridain was our second choice. Was so glad the other hotel was full otherwise we wouldn't have discovered how great the Le Meridian is!!!

We origanally booked a "plunge pool" room which was nice but we fancied something better so we were shown the "pool access" villas. These are 6 or 8 rooms located around a large pool to which only the rooms around that pool have access to. Really nice rooms, would be great for families or groups i think, as you can be next door to eachother.

We then saw the "beach Villas" which were AWESOME!! They have their own pool and face the ocean, total seclusion and luxury. Had to have one!! Only left the "room" to go to breakfast and then out downtown for dinner in the evenings, was like staying in your own private hotel for 2.

Staff were really fantastic and helped organise diving (would reccomend Bophut Divers), and gave excellent recomendations for restraunts in the evening. They really couldn't do enough for us from the manager down to the lady who serviced the room and made "monkeys", "rabbits" and "swans" out of towels on the bed!!

The hotel provide free transport to a nearby beach every day, as the beach in front of the hotel is OK to lie on, but if you want to swin you have to wade out 500m at waist height to the reef.
In the evening there is also a free shuttle to either Lamai of Chaweng on alternate nights. Although you can stroll out to many local restraunts nearby. We loved "Chom Lay".

We had a great time, met fantastic peolpe, and are going to go back soon.

Room Tip: Pool access rooms are great, but the sea villas are awesome!!

Dear Andrew B,

I guess being someones second choice isn't aways bad and in this case, we too are grateful that you were able to give us a try! Hopefully, we have since moved up the ranks!

It seems you surveyed several room types upon arrival and found the Ocean Front Pool Villas to be a favorite. While our suites and villas offer a range of different features and spaces to meet guest preferences, we agree that the Ocean Front Pool Villas are the ultimate treat with a 25sqm infinity pool, unobstructed views of the Gulf of Thailand and 165sqm of living space!

It is good to know that service from the team also matched and that you will be returning. Even better that you committed to a time "soon!" See you again then and if there is anything we can do to make your stays even more comfortable, please let us know.

Sincerely,
Tina

My wife and I wanted a special place to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Thailand is one of our favorite countries and we've been coming here for years, but I had never been to Koh Samui. My wife had and suggested that we try the new Meridien in Lamai. We did and have just had one of the most wonderful experiences - ever.

First, the staff are truly wonderful. They are ever so welcoming and go out of their way to remember the little personal wants that are particular to you. The property is nicely laid out, and if you are lucky enough to have an Ocean-front Villa, you will feel that you are in you own private oasis as you have an unobstructed view of the South China Sea and your own pool. I've stayed at the Aman hotels, including the Aman Puri in Phuket, and I think this hotel compares as well if not better.

If your looking for a beach right outside your hotel, this property may not be for you. However, there are near by beaches that are only minutes away. While family friendly, we were happy to find that mostly couples come here.

Again, we were so happy to spend our anniversary here, and do look forward to coming back.

Dear MikeK13,

It is nice to know that after years of visiting Thailand, you finally decided to give Koh Samui a try and during the very special celebration of your 20th anniversary! Congratulations once again!

With unobstructed views only meters away from the water, it is hard to go wrong with the Ocean Front Pool Villas as mentioned and we are glad that you enjoyed the room.

Thank you for making us your home during your recent stay and we certainly hope that you will choose Koh Samui as a destination once again on your next holiday and Le Meridien in particular.

Sincerely,
Tina

We recently stayed here and found the rooms very comfortable, we had a pool access room, and the kids loved having the pool right outside the patio. The staff from the GM down were wonderful, friendly and helpful. They made our stay here with young kids easy. Unfortunately the beach isn't very nice but in general the location is good if you don't want to have the noise of the main tourist areas. There is daily fish feeding from the pontoon which the kids love and the 'thank you for the day' lantern ceremony is lovely. Great breakfast!

Dear Rebecca L,

We are delighted to learn that you and your family enjoyed your stay and found some fun activities to do with the kids while here. The Pool Access rooms are always a hit with families as kids can enjoy swimming under the close and watchful eye of their parents relaxing nearby the ensuite terrace.

The team thoroughly enjoyed having you all here and we hope to welcome you back to Le Meridien Koh Samui shortly!

We stayed for 5 days. The overall experience was good except for some areas which the hotel can look into improving. Firstly, the staff are very friendly but due to their language skills or our pronouciation, often mis-understand what we want. For example, my kids asked for empty bowls at the pool, in the end the guy brought them balls instead. Nice mistake though as we ended up playing ball in the pool. On Sunday morning, the waiter let my wife's flat white sat on the bar top for a good 5 mins before serving her together with my tea. Some times is ok not to serve everything at the same time but serve them hot. Another example for mis-communication, my wife then asked for her flat white to be warmed, the waiter brought warm milk instead. You almost want to argh...but hack we are on vacation. The rooms are nicely decorated and we love the open shower. But it took a while to get used to the door handle and mind, if you weight more than 88kg, good light squeezing thru the door. Good design idea for retro and nostalgia reason but not very practical but again hack you are on vacation. You can have a bit of inconvienience. Perhaps is me being sensitive but I sensed the guest relationship officers friendliness are driven by 2 factors - the color of your skins and the size of your wallet. Anyways, again, we are on vacation and I suppose discussion on color of your skin and the treatment you get can wait for another day or will just vote with our wallet? We will be back to this place despite some of the mis-givings but kudos to the pool side staffers for making our time around the pool fun year private.

Dear Chin Aun T,

It seems as though our understanding about some of your requests during stay were misunderstood which led to some frustration and for this we apologize. A sure way for us to avoid this would be to repeat our understanding of guest requests and the team has been reminded of this.

We also regret some of the other inconveniences with delay in coffee service and the room door. For coffee service, while we appreciate your flexibility to receive the orders separately as long as it was hot, we will aim to serve in a more timely manner so you do not have to settle. Some of the rooms do have double doors so both panels unfortunately have to be opened in order to get maximum space going through.

As you mentioned that you enjoyed your stay overall and will return, I urge you to contact me directly so that we can do our best to ensure that your expectations are fully met on a future visit. With Le Meridiens initimate setting, we hope to know all our guests as best we can during their stay.

Sincerely,
Tina

This is not your typical large tropical resort, this is a boutique luxury resort with just 77 Villa's and suites at affordable prices.
It has much more to offer than your normal big resort , and is not only unique in style that is based on feng shui, it offers a complete resort experience.
I have never stayed in any hotel where the General Manager serves her guests at breakfast! Tina is always available to talk to, and has stamped her unique and friendly style on the resort..
I stayed in a pool Villa, which was has a pool in the Centre of the villa which is private and wonderful to relax in.
I ate most days in the resorts restaurant over the 5 night stay and had some wonderful meals there.
The thing that stands out in this resort is the friendly and professional service by all of the staff, from Sun the maintenance man to Tum the driver who drove me around the island, to the girl in the bar, who after a bit of teaching made a great martini.
This is a resort where you can have total privacy or mix with other guests, by the pool at the restaurant or at the Nightly ritual of sending fire lit balloons into the sky at night.
I found all of my fellow guests to be very friendly, and due to the size of the resort, most people got to know each other during their stay.
I have stayed in many resorts around the World, but very few have made me feel as relaxed as Le Meridien Koh Samui.
I will be back for a longer stay, next time.
Thank you Tina and all your colleagues at the resort that made my stay so relaxing and memorable.

Room Tip: take a pool villa or a plunge pool Villa, they are worth the money

Dear fcworld,

As a well traveled guest as seen from your numerous reviews, it is nice to learn that you found the resort to be unique and that you left Le Meridien Koh Samui relaxed and with memorable experiences.

While it seems you were able to enjoy the hotel facilities while here, we are even more glad that the associates took good care of you and learned to make you a martini, just the way you like it! Your kind comments about the team have been shared and it is encouraging to know that they were professional on top of their friendliness.

Personally, I find that breakfast is the best time to meet my guests as it is where most tend to start their day before dispersing so I do try to make myself available. You can be sure to find me there for any assistance or inquiry but the entire team is always happy to help.

If you are considering another resort holiday in your upcoming travel plans, please do visit us again at Le Meridien Koh Samui!
