“Expensive for Thailand”
Reviewed July 29, 2012 via mobile

We had just spent a week in Mae nam in a wonderful spa resort (samui native) with pool, spa and massive room with all the trimmings for 800B so when we moved to lamai for a night we were horrified with the prices- you definitely get less for your baht here. We paid 900 for a small AC room here with no pool. Felt a bit robbed but having checked other places this is probably the best for the money you pay. The room was pleasant enough with a fridge, tv small shared balcony and you can't beat the location- literally a 90 second walk to the beach. Staff were friendly enough but didn't really offer a warm welcome like other places we've stayed. The one thing I really didn't like about this place is the poor little monkey they have tethered to a tree during the day and locked in a cage at night. All in all this is a nice place but over priced because of its location.

We stayed for a week in a standard fan bungalow, which was a very good value for the money, and had everything you need and more (TV, closet, hot shower...). The resort is very nice, quiet and conveniently located, between the road and the beach. Just one minute walking to the very nice beach of Lamai, and a couple of minutes by scooter (you can rent one at the resort) to the center of Lamai Beach, where all the restaurants, shops and bars are. The staff is VERY friendly, helpful and trustworthy. Overall, we'd warmly recommend staying at The Cottage @ Samui!

Lovely resort located at 2 minutes walking from the seashore with different prices for bungalows that allow people to choose different kind of confort. During all the day, there's a restaurant where we can order very good and tasty thai food, Pad thai and Panang are my favourites. The western food was very good as well, especially the ravioli and foccacia.. The staff works fast. Cyril and Seb are so funny even in rush hour.

What an excellent place to stay!! From the moment we arrived we were greeted by Cyril already knowing who we were even though we had never had any contact with the hotel directly. The bungalow was excellent - very clean, spacious and comfortable - a nice terrace also! A great location - out of the hustle and bustle so it is nice and quiet, but not so far away that it is a hassle to go/get anywhere. The Cottages are really close to the beach (1-2min walk) and you can easily walk up the beach to the main part of Lamai (maybe about a 15-20min walk) to go shopping, to bars or restaurants etc. Or, you can rent a bike from The Cottages - which we did also, and it was great; saved us A LOT of hassle and wasted time. The bike was in very good condition to and was priced the same as everywhere else and we felt really comfortable that Cyril would not give us any trouble (like some stories you hear) when we return the bike. The service provided by the staff (particularly Cyril and also Sebastian) was excellent and very friendly! One word of caution (if you can call it that!) - be careful what you put on the little shelf above the bathroom sink as things easily fall off and as it happened one of our things fell directly into the bin below with out us realising and so when the room was cleaned we lost it! I would definitely stay here again if we are ever in Samui again and would recommend it to almost anyone.

We arrived two days ago to the cottage with email confirmation of our reservation. When we arrived the owner Cyril looked at us like we had fallen from outer space and reluctantly offered us a room, we had to argue the case that he had personally emailed us to confirm our reservation and he finally gave in when I showed him the email.

Now firstly I should say that we had just come from a resort in Phuket that was nothing more than a mattress in a bamboo shack so we are not strangers to the concept of budget, backpacker accommodation. This however, was awful! The mattress could have been taken from a turn of the century boarding school and the springs actually hurt just to sit down on. We used the toilet (which had a bucket flush) and the bucket had a massive hole in so water went absolutely everywhere and the door didn't close properly.

We quickly checked out and went across the road to Green Villas and got an amazing massive bungalow with hot water shower (just cold water in cottage), amazingly comfy bed, western style flushing toilet and a swimming pool for just $3 more a night. We even got a smile from the owner and the rest of the staff when we arrived, which is a hell of a lot more than can be said about our arrival to the cottage.

The nicer bungalows in the cottage might be comfier but for us the attitude of the owner was enough to send us packing and we are very glad we left as soon as we did.

We stayed here for a few nights. Our room was a nice clean room with a hot shower.
It's just a one minute walk to the beach.
The food is very good. We paid 650 bath! For the room.

Absolutely recommended!
Picked these little cottages out of the net for it's good reviews elsewhere.
Everything was like expected: smoothly reservation via email, Pick up from the airport... really nice cottages in a lovely garden - and all for a very reasonable price.

Beach is about 2 min. easy walk... town center about 10-15 min. walk on the beach or street. But you can hire a scooter there too.

I decided to list this little cottage-garden in tripadvisor as well after staying here for a week for it's really worth to visit. Friendly staff, very helpful and friendly owner - for sure we would return if in Samui again.
