Wow, possibly the worst service I've ever received.
Initially I thought the hotel was great, cheap considering its over christmas (800 baht per night for fan room), good location, right across from the beach, and the basics included with the room plus a hot shower.
However this is what you expect from anywhere you are paying to stay right?
Had problems with the broken toilet in our bathroom which we had to go down to reception several times before we could actually find a member of staff who was interested. For the problem to then come back the next day!
Althought we kept all of our cash and valuables in the safe provided - On our fourth night we noticed that one of my boyfriends £70 football tops had gone missing from our suitcase. Initially we thought it must be a misunderstanding but this was not the case. After eventually getting to speak to the owner - who seemed bothered at first - he went to check the cctv to find that the cctv had stopped working (at christmas.. When they are fully booked). He then spoken to his thai business partner who spoke to the cleaners (she quite frankly looked like she couldn't care less) who weren't helpful either. My boyfriend was then told to see him at the end of the day once the cctv had been 'fixed'. My boyfriend went down later to be told the harddrive had been sent away now - no footage - not bothered - tough basically!
Although it is budget accomodation you are still paying for a service and we received better in places that have been just £2 per night!
I'd advise anybody to pay less and stay at a guesthouse or pay a couple of baht more to stay at a hotel where the cctv actually works and the staff care about their customers.
Tainted koh samui for us, will not be returning.
Take our advise and avoid.

Thanks for taking the time to make a review. Happy to see that you found our accomdation affordable since we are one the most affordable on any of the agents with great location near the beach. In regards to the issue of the missing football top, we have cases where guests are intoxicated and/or just lose or misplace items and since it is Thailand they automatically blame the Thai cleaners. This happens at many hotels not only low budget hotels. This is why the guest is required to sign an agreement upon checkin which states "Rooms are equipped with safes for guests' valuables. Rich Resort Beachside Hotel is not responsible for any lost/missing items from the rooms." This is also posted in all rooms. Anything that is considered as value which obviously this was to you should be locked in the safe or in the extra storage lockers in reception. As for the cctv camera system. We are one of the only hotels in this price range that actually have one that I know of and is of good quality Fujiko brand. Unfortunately, on this day the dvr was not functioning properly and was sent to the company to see if the data could be found at an extra service charge to Rich Resort of 1500 Thai Baht because the staff had to come on holiday. If we didn't care about our customers we wouldn't have cctv in the first place and we would definitely not have paid 1500 baht for a rush for the staff to come and check the dvr. The cctv could not be repaired and is now in Bangkok being repaired and has been replaced by a spare dvr by Fujiko. Whether the dvr was working or not it is not sure that it would show that one of the staff actually stole the item. One of the owners even offered you gift vouchers to use in the restaurant even though there was no proof that the item was actually stolen from the room but you declined.

Super clean rooms for dirt cheap.
For what you pay these rooms are kitted out. Satellite TV, Hot Showers and a mini bar fridge. Everywhere else that i stayed in Thailand for about the same price had none of the above.
The staff are all super friendly, especially Nancy, she rocks. Best manager of a hotel that i met along my trip. Really friendly super helpful and quite blunt. Everything you need. Its located just across the road from Swing Bar which is the best bar in Lamai and once passing through there you hit the beach. Supreme location. Doesn't get much better than that.
I really enjoyed Rich Resort and definitely think it is one of the top notch cheap places to stay. Thank you Nancy and co.

Wow thanks for your kind words and taking the time to review our hotel. Yes our motto is affordable beachside accomodation. So we are one of the cheapest hotels on Koh Samui with 4 room types and located right beside the beach. Cheap prices but still with all the basic ammenities cable tv, mini bar, mini safe, tv, hot water, wardrobe and wifi. Glad our staff were helpful and you enjoyed our bar and restaurant Swing Bar. Enjoy your future travels and thank you for your opinion!

This hotel is pretty functional for young travellers on a budget. However, it's not somewhere we would choose to stay for a holiday and definitely not somewhere we think our mums would like. The fixtures in the rooms are rubbish, with wires hanging out the walls but the rooms were clean nonetheless. It is right near a really nice beach and there is a bar opposite that serves good food throughout the day. We went in low season so the bar was dead but in high season I imagine it would be really loud if you were staying in a room opposite.

Thanks for giving your opinion of our accommodation. Yes we agree that our hotel is mostly for the budget traveller. We are one of the cheapest hotels in Samui and we are also right near the beach. We try to provide beachside accomodation as affordable as possible so there may not be all the frills but you get at least the basic amenities private rooms, cable tv, mini bar, fridge, vanity hot water shower etc. and the hotel is right near the beach where you can lounge on a sunbed all day. Glad you enjoyed the food in our restaurant Swing Bar. Yes in low season there is not as many people as high season but our beach parties on Mondays and Fridays with fireshows are still super busy. Also we have fireshows every night which is great entertainment for all ages. It is not loud in the hotel because the music is on the beach and the beach is a full flight of steps down lower than the bar and hotel. Also the music in the bar is set at a lower level than on the beach. Most of the customers enjoy dining and relaxing on the beach. Also each hallways has doors to prevent sound from traveling to the rooms from outside the hotel. Thanks again for making a review of our hotel!

First of all, the lady at the desk was great, extremely helpful and pleasant. Location at Lamai is wonderful.

Room....awful. Several dead cockroaches around the place, a huge spartan room with no wall hangings or anything to give it some colour or vibe. Tiled floor, not carpet as in photos. Just a small table in corner and a bin in another. For the cost of about $30 US they could just do something....anything with the rooms to give it some sort of vibe, it's like the just don't care.

They left two toilet rolls on top of our fridge, couldn't even put them on the roll for us, the bed was hard as a rock. No lamps either side of the bed, only two massive spotlights on the ceiling that were brighter than the sun, which made reading impossible.

Was consistently woken up by drunk people endlessly slamming on doors several times on the night of their beach party (Friday and Monday) as well as excessive vomiting sounds coming through the paper thin walls.

A dog decided to do a huge crap outside our room, which we saw cleaning staff step over several times before it was cleaned up about 12 hours later.

Will not be going back.

I was looking for something on the beach strip and cheap. I was with another backpacker and we wanted cheap. We found Rich Resort to be more of a hotel than a hostel. The rate didn't include aircon and so they turned it off in the room. The room has a t.v. fan centered on the bed, a dresser, a mini fridge with two free bottles of water (and other drinks/snacks you can purchase for reasonable prices; not typical upsell hotel prices like I'm used to seeing in other hotels around the world). The bathroom had a water heater that didn't work very well but the water was luke warm. The hotel hooked us up with a cheap motorbike rental (which was basically the going rate for the island but they still took care of it for us). The staff wasn't very engaging at the front desk, but the women who clean the rooms were lively, courteous, and fun. The hotel says you get wi-fi but really you have to cross the street (a small ally street) to a bar called Swing Bar to use the free wi-fi. You also have to go through this bar (or around it and through another side bar) to get to the beach. The bed was quite painful, and sadly this seems to be more common than not in Thailand backpacker hotel/hostel/bungalows. I have stayed in several with very comfortable beds but this was not one of those.

Room tip: See if they have a way of closing the vent that is connected to a little fan in the wall. I don't know what it is used for but the vent itself open and closes with the wind gusts and will probably wake you up at night like it did for us.
