Booked a fortnight in March. Especially asked for a high room however was advised on arrival we had a low room. When queried told we have 50% high and 50% low. Not the ideal start we were expecting, especially as we had paid extra for a superior room.

Gardens are magnificent as is the location. Most staff try very hard to please.

Breakfast on the terrace is very good, dinner in the evening, as others have said is less so.

The rooms are noisy, especially in the lower rooms, some transfers happen very early in the morning and people moving out above you at 5am.

Good holiday overall but could improve.

Room Tip: Superior rooms are good, beds very comfortable.

A beautiful hotel, perched on a cliff, with stunning sea views, set in lush tropical gardens. Accommodation is not in a big hotel block but bungalow-type rooms spread throughout the site. Swimming pools for everyone .. from a lap pool or very shallow pool for children. A massive range of activities/sports available, as well as entertainment. There's also a kids club, though only available about 4 hours a day, 6 days a week, rather than for a full day. And a spa .. will a huge range of treatments. Oh .. and a club down at beach level, with a salt-water pool and restaurant. The website actually doesn't really do it justice at all ... Despite the fact that its actually quite big, everyone seems to evaporate, and it never felt very busy or noisy, even though it was full for the Easter weekend.

It's a great base for exploring the island too. Weather in early April was perfect; about 25 - 26 degrees with a breeze. A bit chilly in the mornings sometimes. Our room was on the lowest level of the site, looking directly out to sea. Housekeeping was very good. Room service too. And the food was good quality and varied. I thought it was great value .. children's meals are all £3 or less ... but adult sized portions. Other a la carte meals very reasonable too, and good servings.

The only downsides are that it takes some getting there! You can fly into North Tenerife and take a local flight into La Gomera - very close to the hotel, or South Tenerife and take a ferry, which takes about 40 mins or an hour. Then a 40 minute very windy drive to the hotel. This is not a trip for anyone who gets travel sick!

And I never saw the manager around and about .. it would be nice if he/she was a bit more visible, around reception or the pool just to chat to, provide that personal touch ....

I rarely go back to the same place twice, but I am already thinking of booking for next year ...

Room Tip: The rooms on the cliff edge have direct sea views.

The service was excellent, the recepcionists, suitcase handlers and parking men were very attentive and all staff through the hotel always said hello.
The room was noisy, in the mornings (8-11) all you could hear were people cleaning, cleaning trolleys and the whirring of electrical baggage trolley buggies. We were at number 9 monte something. There were ants in the room, the air con dodnt work and the toilet took ages to flush. But the room was clean and the bed was comfy. And for 2 nights not worth complaining.
The lift down to the seafront is a great idea but we made the mistake of dining in club laurel....this was the worst part of our stay, having enjoyed lunches and meals in the centre of town which compared to club laurel were excellent value, the maitre d was snobby and made a big deal that we hadnt booked, to which i would have preferred to say not to worry about it and leave but my partner wanted to try the rice dish so we were seated (in a nearly empty restaurant) the setting is nice and romantic we ordered a starter of clams and mussles which came with empty shells and two small mussles floating in a sauce, as my partner wanted the rice dish which said 19,90 2 persons we thought it was 19,90 and we had to share (like the paella dishes) so i had it too, it was an improvement on the starter and had mussles and shrimps inside and was ok. The surprise was when we went to pay and it was actually 19.90 each so should have said minimum 2 persons not 2 persons. Anyway this ruined it for us but in general what you are paying for is for the well kept gardens and the many pools i wouldnt call it a hotel as the rooms are in seperate buildings and on the seafront you can get a room the same for cheaper and nearer to the sea.
We would go again but not stay at the tecina and took a few numbers of the places on the front.

We stayed at Hotel Jardin Tecina for a rest and winter sun during February half term. It certainly delivered. We found the setting very beautiful, the weather perfect and the hotel calm and restorative. The evening entertainment was naff but amusing and a lot of the guests were "older people" but that suited us because, as previously stated, we just wanted to flop, read and relax. We spent most of our time at the pool near the beach because it was very low key and went out for a "leg stretch" into the village to buy water from the supermarket and a drink from one of the bars. We stayed half board which was adequate as we ate breakfast late and didn't need much at lunch time. The drinks in the bars were much pricier than in the village but the setting was very beautiful.

My only disappointment was our room. My husband booked a suite and we made an assumption that these would be placed in the best positions but ours was set back a long way from the sea - room 69. It was very spacious but not worth the extra money. Next time, I would go for one of the upstairs rooms facing the sea. Big mistake on our part to assume that the more money you pay, the better the situation.

My husband and I decided to return to Jardin Tecina this March having promised ourselves we would after an extremely stormy and windy experience about 5 years ago in December. We saw how amazing La Gomera could potentially be in the sunshine and we weren't disappointed. Although it is further afield than Spain/Tenerife, the journey can be exceptionally smooth and pleasant especially if you are able to time your flights with the ferry crossings (crossing is 35 minutes/transfer to hotel approx 40 minutes in car - Cicar car hire are extremely efficient). Ferry and ports both have good facilities, especially the first beach restaurant out of Tenerife port on the left!). We only stayed in our booked room for 1 night having been woken up at 7am by scraping of chairs etc upstairs (guests are generally up early here due to the not so late nights). We requested a different room which was on the top floor and the extra €80 odd was worth paying for the views of the ocean, banana plantation, gardens, driving range and part of the 18th fairway. Having enjoyed the restaurants in Santiago on our previous visit, we decided to go bed and breakfast only. That's not to say the food in the hotel is disappointing - it's of a very good standard but we're not especially fans of the buffet evening meals, which can have a 'canteen' feel. Saying that breakfasts on the terrace in the morning are fantastic (freshly made omelettes, bananas in syrup, cakes and pastries galore!) Ultimately we wanted to get away from the eternal British winter, chill out and as a novice golfer I personally wanted to play one or two rounds, which at €85 each (hotel guest rate) we thought rather excessive but had read that the views alone were worth it. What can I say, we played 4 rounds, the views are amazing, the fairways in great condition and the staff in the charming clubhouse were very friendly indeed. We also managed a hike one day to the highest point on the island, though there are many more longer walks to be had on La Gomera. Being in our mid 40's we were younger than the average guest at the hotel and we would have to say that if you're looking for a lively, nightclub filled hotel/resort, this is certainly not for you. What is is perfect for is excellent walking, golf and as much relaxation in gorgeous surroundings you can handle.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms are preferable, with ocean views.

We have just spent the last 10days on this beautiful island at this ideal hotel. Every thing we could have wished for in attention to detail, Food excellent, staff very attentive, spotless surroundings with beautiful views from many terraces. Breakfasted every morning under clear blue skies with a very large choice from buffet, walked, swam and read under trees or umbrellas. Dinner taken in various restaurants all with excellent choices. Room very spacious and comfortable, very quiet. Just what we wanted to recharge our old batteries once again and face Life and the bad weather back in England. Only downside is it is a long journey to get here.

Room Tip: All equally as good as one another but balcony rooms have better views.

Overall, we found our experience of the Jardin Tecina to be good. There are a few things that could be improved and I will try to cover those in this review. Hopefully, I’ll try to provide some useful information to any who are planning a visit.

Transfers – All our flights, transfers, taxis, and ferry crossings went without a hitch. When planning a trip here do your research on flight arrivals and ferry crossings (all ferry times are on the web); all ours fitted perfectly (as I planned them), were on time and the waiting periods were not excessive. The instructions given at Tenerife airport by Thomson are quite clear, with a little information and the vouchers needed for the ferry (and return). The only minor problem we had on the way back was looking in the taxi rank for a car back to the airport (I looked at the instructions again and it was quite clear that he would wait by the luggage pick up where we found him). Thomson also give a mobile number for the local representative, although we never had to call it or try contacting the 24/7 line. It is a shame that there are no representative visits; the Thomson information book was useless with only two pages! The hotel provides plenty of information, although at times we had to ask reception about things (like the timing for the walks) when this could be more prominently displayed.

Board levels – We were on all inclusive (AI), which we found was excellent for us. We only paid a small additional charge for some meals in the a la carte restaurants. All other meals were fully covered, the house wines are acceptable (without limits on the size or number of bottles), drinks at the bars, ice creams and cakes…etc. and the safe, water and soft drinks in room. We didn’t even have to leave a deposit on the pool towels. It all looked rather confusing to see people on B&B, HB and I guess FB (but not AI) – the staff have loads of work to do with all the bills, signing, paying cash or charging to the room. Still it probably made it better for us as others were obviously limiting the intake of facilities whilst we just had what we wanted (without too much excess!). We are also fussy about where we eat and drink; we would not have trusted some of the establishments locally in the village.

Restaurants – The food quality was all acceptable. The a la carte restaurants were good but it was not clear what was included as AI on the menus (particularly at the International which had menus with no pricing at all – the menu on the day was also totally different to all menus that had been described outside). There is a good variety of foods on the buffets, but we did think there were few choices of vegetables, all too often they mixed vegetable items up on the same serving tray and in large lumps. No extra points scored for presentation at the Jardin Tecina. Lunches were far less busy and waiter served - much nicer and civilised than the evenings.Try the entrecote steak for lunch at Club Laurel, do ask for it to be cooked a level higher than you do at home, as they tend to under cook.

Plates – Many people have complained that the plates are not warm. Well, don’t take them from next the salad bar! We found the plates warm most days at each end of the hot food counter, sometimes so hot we had to use a paper napkin. Sometimes they were less warm if the pile had just been replenished.

Our biggest grip – the maître d’s (none of whom were better dressed that the wait staff) were absolutely useless and provide a very poor service. We hated the wondering round looking for a table. If they operated a “wait to be seated” system it would be less daunting and work better, the maître de should be at the door to greet you and guide you to a table. They spent too much time wondering around and an excessive time talking to quests (even saw one join a table and talk to a couple for about 30 minutes whilst mayhem continued all around). That said, the wait staff are all polite and work extremely hard, the table clearing service etc. was brilliant given the circumstances of poor support from their supervisors. The wait for a booked table in the International Restaurant was also too long (about 7/8 minutes), without an apology. Again, poor restaurant supervision.

We also never saw any hotel management out and about. The reception and bar staff were brilliant; as said the restaurant wait staff were also – the Jardin Tecina need to change their managers/supervisors!

Rooms – we ordered a Superior room with sea view and that is exactly what we got. A week before arrival I emailed them (address on their web page) asking for a higher floor; we got that too. Many of the ground floor rooms have people walking by particularly along the Camino Horizonte. Our room was on Jacaranda (room 147) at the quiet end towards the banana plantation. Along the front row the rooms really only have a view straight out to sea, ours had a view over a part of the gardens and then the sea (much nicer we thought). The hotel map (a copy is available on the Jardin Tecina web site) was fine and we soon orientated ourselves. We found the bed perfectly comfortable.

Room cleaning and servicing was excellent, the replenishment of the fridge and cleaning of tea/coffee mugs (and the resupply) was all perfect. Do take a bar of soap – the soap they provide is tiny, but there is a dispenser for shower gel over the bath/shower. Room towels are getting worn out and are thin (but are clean and plentiful). Watch the bathes they are slippery.

Pools – the main pool is certainly in need of renovation however we saw a contractor measuring up the size of the pool so hopefully they are going to have the work done soon. The loungers are just awful; we could not find one where the metal frame did not catch you across the back. Many are grubby, they need replacing with some comfortable ones perhaps with mattresses. There are a few day beds at the Club Laurel which we used on several days. Lifeguards on duty at both pools and he supplies the pool towels. Loungers are always available but of course we saw a few being reserved, by Brits – why do we always blame the Germans? Why do some people have to sit in the same place for the whole of their holiday? Totally, unnecessary. Also, nice to have a quiet pool bar without load music and noisy clientele. Club Laurel was lovely and the mini-golf a bit of fun.

Entertainment – The garden and plantation walks with Hans were good, informative and amusing. The duo on in the evenings were total cxxp, when singing in English some of the words were totally indiscernible (I guess as my singing in Spanish would be!). The acrobat show, the Silbo demonstration and the contortionist/juggler were good. The Il Divo tribute group was awful particularly when they did an Abba number. The Cuban band was OK but not a good copy of a real Cuban band that have some wind instruments (like trumpet). Anna Tina plays the piano in the main bar every night. But, then we don’t go on holiday to be entertained or watch English channels on the TV.

Wi-Fi – get a code for each device you have (phone, tablet etc). It worked perfectly for us wherever we were. Our Blackberry phone and Samsung tablet worked fine, except the Samsung had to be logged in each time we used it (no great issue). Even used Skype to call home so no expensive phone calls.

Clientele – A good mix of nationalities, mostly middle-aged to elderly (don’t stay here if you can’t handle a few steps), very few children (mostly below school age). Normally, we only go to adult only (Couples) hotels so we were slightly worried that there might be ill-disciplined British kids there, there were not, so we had the peace and quiet that we wanted.

In summary, a good experience, but certainly room for improvement. Don’t think the management is very good an indication of which is that I’ve never seen a reply on TripAdvisor. They do get a lot of repeat guests who are obviously happy. Would we join their loyalty program and visit again? Definitely not, there are too many other places to visit and we have stayed in far better hotels with excellent restaurants.

Room Tip: Book a superior room with sea view, ask for high floor, try to a room at the banana plantation end.
