Stayed here for 2 nights as 2 of our last nights in Sweden for a family holiday. Upon arrival, the hotel looked really impressive. The main building and its location are stunning. The newer accomodation where we were was less upmarket and looked like it had seen better days (threadbare carpet in places, blinds that were broken in the bedrooms, holes in the wall where something had been attached but was no longer there) and the views from the bedroom were of a woods over the road (not bad, but not a seaview).
We asked if there was a list of activities for the hotel we could see and there wasnt; the receptionist tried to talk us through them though.
We had dinner there the first evening and were suprised at the very high quality of food but also at sensible prices. For anyone from Europe (rather than Scandinavia) you'll find the wine prices shocking.
Another dissapointment on the first day was that we went to the Sauna (a highlight of this hotel) and it wasnt working (no-one had switched it on) which was a bit suprising at 6pm.
The second day, we enjoyed a fantastic breakfast before going sailing all day. We returned to a working Sauna which was brilliant - straight from the Sauna into the sea!
The ambience and main parts of the hotel have an 'old-world charm' and are absolutely beautiful. The service was also very good, particularly at Dinner.
Overall, the hotel COULD be absolutely top-notch but lets itself down on a few small things.
