Description: Fabulously situated on the Stanford Wine Estate (on the R43 in Stanford), this organic vegetable garden kitchen was recommended to us by locals & was a fabulous find. A glass of chilled sauvignon blanc & a simple but excellent lunch whilst watching the coots play on the small lake in front of the kitchen. A rustic paradise situated between the whale watching at Hermanus and De Kelders.

“Highly recommended, beautiful and relaxing!”
Reviewed March 17, 2014

Lovely setting on an old historic farm very near to the village of Stanford and an easy 20 minutes drive from Hermanus.

Ambience : Rustic and relaxing. Seating is outside overlooking beautiful mountains and a dam filled with traditional waterblommetjies ( waterflowers).

Food : Each individual item, meat, vegetable, fruit, fresh bread etc was of the highest quality and made fresh. Bread are freshly baked every day in a wood fired oven outside. The portions were generous and our plates were beautifully plated with care and attention to detail.

Shopping : Wines from the farm are sold in the wine shop on site and a farm shop selling gifts and kitchen wares are near to the eating area.

Service : Was good. Madre, the owner, took time to come and chat with us, which was a very nice touch.

We will definitely return. Recommended for the atmosphere and the wonderful food.

“The perfect location for a relaxed lunch”
Reviewed February 14, 2014 via mobile

The location and the view do not get any better than this wonderfully relaxed Country Kitchen. The ambience is warm and welcoming, the fresh food is wonderful and the wines are excellent. You will be sitting in the shade, with a large pond between you and the view of the mountains only to be interrupted by the geese occasionally ambling around the waters edge. It is what I call perfection! We were lucky enough to be guests last night for a fantastic Valentines Night treat with Oysters, Sparkling Wine, Wonderful Lamb and fruit with a superb chocolate dipping sauce......wow... “Breakfast with a view”
Reviewed February 2, 2014

The decor and atmosphere at Madre's is stunning - we spent a good couple of hours watching the ducks, chatting and admiring the lovely view from our table. The staff were friendly and professional and the food was really tasty. You can tell that acre and effort goes into sourcing and preparing the food - beautiful homemade bread, soft and creamy scrambled eggs, gently sauteed exotic mushrooms (rather than the regular button mushrooms), crispy bacon with little fat on it, delicious coffee.... all good reasons we'll definitely go back to Madre's when we are next in Stanford.

“Yes please - Madre's Kitchen”
Reviewed January 14, 2014

Seeking lunch in Stanford on Christmas Eve, a kindly local directed us to Madre's Kitchen.

What a brilliant spot, beautiful grounds with the mountains in the background. The restaurant area was like a very long covered patio, with super comfortable seating.

Luckily, they were able to fit us in, although it was late on for lunch. The waiting staff were charming and efficient, service prompt and the food delicious, plus excellent Sir Robert Stanford wine. The emphasis is on fresh local ingredients and the menu varies frequently in line with the available ingredients, most of the vegetables come from their own garden.

Madre also made the time to come and chat, which we appreciated.

This was a very welcome moment of calm before the family Christmas for seventeen in Stanford.

By the way Stanford is a great village with lovely old Cape buildings and very friendly locals, it is also one of only three villages in South Africa with a central village green, where a major cricket match was played on Boxing day. It is also the mosquito capital of the Overberg, just kidding but they did seem to enjoy us.

We loved the area.

“Nee dankie Madres Kitchen :(”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

After a recommendation to try the "well-renowned" madre's kitchen,we were greeted with impatience, served with irritation as well as an uncomfortable atmosphere with a few tearful staff members!!! not to mention the over-priced, bland "variety" of food. Thanks but no thank you Madres Kitchen :(
