First time to South Africa and it was a great experience. The Garden Route Game Lodge is a brill place and I would recommend it to everyone. Everything was just perfect, great friendly knowledgeable staff, marvellous food, large clean comfortable rooms and all the sights and sounds of Africa.

Cannot recommend highly enough. The staff were amazing and very helpful. We stayed in a waterhole view chalet which was well worth the extra cost. The spa was well worth a treatment, you could see a free roaming elephant from the spa which was out in the reserve. The game drives and food cannot be faulted. Perfect experience.

My grandfather and I stayed for one night at the Garden Route Game Lodge, and we had an amazing time. From the first minute we entered to the minute we left, it was an experience of a lifetime! We arrived at around half 3, so we had around one hour before the game drive, so we spent it in the heated pool, which was great, and not too small. We then got ready for the game drive, and our guide was Hannes. I don't think we could have had a better guide, as he seemed knowledgable about all the animals and knew where all of them would be. Therefore, we saw three of the "Big 5": Buffalo, Lion and White Rhino on the evening drive, as well as a hippo and many other species.

We then returned for dinner, and that was the best part. There was plenty of choice of potatoes, rice etc., and then we had a choice of 4 meats and a fish. They were being cooked to perfection on the grill by the chefs. Then there was dessert, and we were almost too full, however, couldn't resist it!

In the morning, we had an early start in order to get ready for the morning drive, again lasting two hours. We saw the final two of the "Big 5": Cheetah and Elephant, as well as more Zebra and Springbok. We then returned to the lodge, saying goodbye to Hannes, and before visiting the Reptile House.

All this was as well as a luxorious lodge, with powerful air conditioning and a large bathroom with many facilites.

Overall, the Garden Route Game Lodge is a must if you are on the Garden Route, and well worth a night.

The Garden Route Game Reserve is outstanding value for money. At a fraction of the cost we have paid to stay on other Game Reserves the Lodge offers excellent accommodation which is clean and we'll maintained. The food on offer was superb as we're the facilities in the lodge. The Rangers were very professional and knowledgeable about the wildlife. The staff in General we're very attentive and created a homely atmosphere. I felt that the animal stock was not as high as other game parks we have visited and that separate compounds for the lions and elephant did not feel very natural as did the fact that both these were fed rather than hunting their own food. As former farmland much of the park was open pasture rather than natural fynbos. That apart it was an excellent experience.

We were two couples who stayed for one night and made two game drives. The rooms had very high standard and the food was excellent. The staff was very friendly and we were treated like we were very special guests. Our guide at the game drives (Alec) was very competent and gave us all information we wanted. We were lucky enough to see many different species, even if the buffleheard has "disappeared".

This is a great game reserve, easily accessible when touring the southern cape with superb accommodation and food to die for. The staff is very friendly, makes you feel part of a family, the games drives and rangers are so professional, you'll be overawed about all the species you can see. We have visited before and can't recommend highly enough. My husband who is a keen photographer could not believe his luck in how accommodating the rangers were and the variety of animals.

Room Tip: Do choose a chalet preferably overlooking the waterhole to give you that special bush experience, st...

My family and I (including 2 children, aged 10 and 7) stayed here for 2 nights just before Christmas (2013). We had deliberated for some time as to what kind of safari experience to book and I'm pleased to say we made exactly the right choice. For a first safari, with young children, the Garden Route Game Lodge ticked all the boxes. We got very close indeed to 4 out of the 'Big 5' (we didn't see leopards, largely because of their nocturnal nature) and learnt a great deal from our intrepid, carnivorous guide, Alec, who kept us amused as well as well-educated throughout our 4 game drives.
The package was well-priced, service was very efficient and friendly, the buffet-style food was of a high standard and the rooms (poolside) and pool were very impressive.
We had an unforgettable holiday in the Cape area of South Africa, but our children (and probably us, too!) would say that our 2-day 'safari trip' was its highlight!

Room Tip: We had 2 poolside rooms next to each other which suited us fine as a family - though I would recomme...
