Notos is in the middle of Loutro bay, elevated above the beach up some steps so it has a different aspect to the other tavernas. It only has 10 tables so it tends to get filled up quite quickly in the evening, especially because it looks very charming at night, but tables become available all night.
Nicos the owner will give you the menu printed on a pad, and you just tick the dishes that you want. The calamari is very good here - small and crispy. The meatballs are also excellent, with delicious mountain herbs, and the fava (broad bean paste) is very good. Try it with chopped onion and drizzled with oil - it's much nicer than it sounds!
The views of the bay as dusk and as night falls are lovely, and the village is reflected in the water. Notos is relaxed and intimate (although like any Greek taverna, you wouldn't describe it as quiet).
