We found this to be an excellent hotel, it was very clean and in good repair. If we had an problems in the room, e.g. our toilet stopped working, it was fixed straight away. The staff were really friendly all over the hotel complex, especially our holiday rep Wes. We went as a group of four friends and found that there was plenty for us to do around the hotel if we wanted, though we chose to spend most of our time at the Relax Pool, which was very quiet and child free. The Spa offered a huge range of treatments and was of a very high standard. We had massages and hammam, the entire experience in the spa was professional and friendly, and although not included in the all-inclusive the prices were very reasonable - a full body massage worked out at around £20 and the hammam at around £15. The food on offer in the main restaurant was of a high quality for every meal and the range of options available at all meal times was huge. The ala carte restaurants were also of a very high standard, the tunisian ala carte in particular served delicious food. The rooms were of a good quality, very comfortable and plenty of storage space, with a safe included. The showers were really good - powerful - and our rooms had baths as well. The bars were great, the main bar was open 24 hours and offered all inclusive drinks the entire time - the only thing that they charged for is Red Bull, which was 4 dinar...about £1.80. We only went to the night time entertainment twice, but both times were fantastic. There's a discotheque on the complex too, but we didn't go in there. Probably the best night time activity we discovered in the hotel was the Midnight snacks in the main restaurant, which ran from midnight to 1am.

We had a fabulous time at this hotel, and all came home super relaxed. We spent only £80 each on spa treatments and excursions for a week. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would definitely go back.

We have just arrived back from two weeks at Magic Life. I know all the reviews are fantastic, but we had to add another one!

Everything down to the smallest things are perfect, the staff from cleaners to gardeners to managment are all so polite and helpful, there must be something in the water because they never stop smiling!

The food is 5 star in any country in the world and changes daily, the three other resturants are also amazing.

The pool area and beach are great, the sea was still a bit rough, but it was early season. But again all good and great views.

The water sports are all free, I did a windsurfing course over three days and the instructor Khaled was fantastic he had us windsurfing in one day, can't thank him enough for all his advice.

The Quad biking man on site, Salim, is so nice and I would recommend booking his trip rather than the Thompson one if you are thiking about doing it.

Salim who takes the photos is also great, he is busy learning English, so help him out with a few phrases!

The bar staff are all great, the Jazz bar does great coctails every day, and my wife was drinking Champagne most days she loved it.

Again we can not say enough good things about this hotel, we would go again tomorrow, but I fear the price will rise quickly now!

Big thanks to Dave, Di, Tess, Jack, John, Sam and little Zach who we met there and made our holiday!! can't wait to see them all again soon.

We upgraded to a Bungalow, and had a bathroom each, I would recommend doing that and there is no noise around them at night

To anyone who is going enjoy your holiday! You will not be dissapointed.

Kev and Claire

Room Tip: Upgrade to bungalow if possible they are fantastic

Have just returned from the Magic Life Penelope Beach Imperial, we went to a Magic Life two years ago in Antalya, turkey and wanted to stay with a good chain of hotels and we weren't disappointed. We flew with Thomson/First Choice and the plane took off exactly on time, we booked extra leg room and were not disappointed as we had loads of room, although the plane looked a bit old andctatty it was a very good three hour flight.
When we landed we were seen quickly through customs and straight onto our transfer coach which took about 25 minutes to get there, we were welcomed by friendly staff and a cooling cocktail, we filled in our checking in forms on the coach, was given our room keys and towel cards and stickers with our room number to put on our cases, which were taken to our room within 10 minutes.
We upgraded to a suite and was not disappointed it was lovely, huge flat screen tv, absolutely huge bed, rugs, tables, seperate lounge area and leather sofa, jacuzzi bath, bathrobes, slippers, safe, well worth the extra.
The resaurabts were lovely, we went to the Magico, which was varied although by day seven I was getting a bit bored also just to let you know each night is themed and repeated every week so if you are staying for 14 you will experience this twice, we also visited the Thai restaurant and this was good but not quite what we would call Thai? We found the Relax pool the best for us as we liked the peace and quiet, the main pool and activity pool was very loud and lots of things going on all day, too noisy for us but great for the more active. We didn't try the waterpark pool either but it looked fab, the beach was lovely, great that there was a bar and snack place there and very clean toilets.
We didn't do any organised trips as others said they were not good, but we got a yellow cab to Hamout Souk - the Market but be prepared to be hassled, mauled and feel intimidated, there is a fort on the seaside of this road which is worth a visit we went and saw some great mosaics, and scenery we would highly recommend this only £2.50 to get in.
Evening enertainment was on each night in the amphitheatre and on Wednesday's on the beach for the beach party. The disco was great and really good music. We went to the wunderbar most nights and met some great people there, we also went to the Jazz bar on some night if we fancied something quieter.
Loved this hotel and will again be searching out another Magic Life for next years holiday, any questions just ask.

Dear Boffin8,

We are glad to hear you were satisfied with our hotel. Thank you also for your positive assessment in Tripadvisor.com.

There is just a small rectification concerning the Main Restaurant. You have written, that we offer just a 7 days Dinner program. You have seen probably the current week program on our Information board, but actually we offer a two weeks program for Dinner. It means you will experience 14 different themes during a 2 weeks stay.

We wish you all time unforgettable holidays with MAGIC LIFE, and hope to see you once again in Djerba.

Best regards

Just got back from Magic Life Penelope Beach. Went there for a week with my friend. We absolutely loved it. Could not fault anything. Only suggestions are that the hotel perhaps provides tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms and that the Entertainment team stagger their day off. It is a Monday but it is such a huge team, they could just as well have some of them off that day and the others a different day. These are not criticisms - far from it as the Entertainment team were fantastic and the place was so quiet when they were all off. So many daytime activites and the evening shows and entertainment were really impressive and professional. It reminded me of the film Dirty Dancing... the members of the team would ask the holiday makers to dance in the evening. but there was no pressure to join in at all. My friend and I went for a chill out week in the sun and they respected that from the start.

The food was lovely, so much choice and different dishes every night. We went to the Tunisian Al a carte and that was lovely too. Service was good throughout and the choice of drinks, spirits and cocktails included were phenomenal.

Our room was very comfortable. The TV only really had one English channel and that was the news but we didn't go to watch TV anyway so no matter. The mini bar of soft drinks was particularly welcome after a day in the sun.

Can't comment on the island itself as we only ventured out once and that was to go to the Sunday market which we found a bit boring but as said, we didn't go to sightsee anyway and to be honest, everything you wanted was on site. The man in the shop was very accommodating. When I needed batteries for my camera and he didn't have the correct ones, he offered to go out to the town and buy them for me which he did straight away.

Although our kids are grown up I do think it was a lovely place for families. there was an aqua park on site with flumes and water slides galore and a very impressive kids club. The beach was also on site and whilst there is a beach bar, the food is not very plentiful there. We ordered a sandwich and got a very plain sandwich in a paper bag but now I am just being really fussy. Something to bear in mind though if you are on the beach for the day.

Really can not fault this place. Would definetly go there again again and will recommend it to others.

This is the by far the best hotel I have ever visited anywhere!! It is an amazing all inclusive as it truly is all inclusive. You can be as active or as restful as you like. There is an area of the complex for everyone, with both quiet and lively areas. The complex is also nice and compact, not too big or too small.
The complex was extremely quiet during our stay due to the revolution and peoples fears regarding political unrest however this is insane if it puts you off coming to Tunisia- I have seen worse incidents in London and was inspired by their courage, England could do with a bit of a shake up!! Tunisia NEEDS tourism and is excited about the arrival of Brits in Djerba so don't be put off by propaganda.

The food is varied and extremely tasty- lovely fresh ingredients used. The chefs take pride in their work and the food is prepared to an excellent standard. The food is cooked fresh in front of you and there is a chef for each station constantly checking and replacing food. There is a great selection for veggies and they did a theme in the main restaurant (Magico) every night. Puddings were also delicious and varied; lots of cream and chocolate used!! The waiters are attentive and top up drinks all the time.
The snack bar at the beach offered a good range of toasted sandwiches and the Snacks around the World bar at the aqua park also offered different snacks each day to an excellent standard. There are also 3 al a carte restaurants but never used them due to the fantastic standard and variety of the main restaurant but heard excellent reviews from fellow travellers.

The staff here are all extremely friendly and can’t do enough for you. On arrival we were greeted by a cocktail and our bags were taken up to our rooms. The cleaners left pretty patterns on our bed with our clothes and our mini bar was restocked every other day.
Wes the Rep provided an excellent service and was always happy to help- he even phoned our room to check we were ok.
The gardens are beautifully maintained and staff work hard to keep the complex looking good- great maintenance and gardening staff as well as people constantly tidying and cleaning areas of the complex.
The security guards do a good job of making the complex feel safe and we were happy to let our kids roam freely around alone, as were other parents.

The team work hard and offer a far better standard of entertainment you usually find in complexes. They take their role seriously and can often be seen practising. They are fit and agile and look good when performing and have a lot of talent!

The beach is beautiful but the sea is not a calm sea as the island has lots of wind. It is great for water sports and has good facilities such as clean toilets (checked every 30 mins), showers, foot wash, beach bar, water sports area and sun loungers with mattresses and umbrellas. There are often beach sellers and although they can not come beyond a certain point they can get a bit annoying at times. The security guards do an excellent job keeping the sellers in order as well as making the complex feel very safe.

A good variety of tours are offered by Thomson. We usually go local but hadn't managed to sort it out in time so booked in the hotel with Thomson (Wes- great guy!). We would recommend the 4x4 Tataouine tour, the Desert Explorer and the Crocodile Park (Djerba Explore) as excellent experiences- getting you out and about to experience the real Tunisia beyond the resort. We were also pleasantly surprised that the guides on our trips weren’t English Thomson reps but that the trips were run by Tunisie Voyages and although there are English speaking guides, the company is local. On our 4x4 trip our driver was called Sendhi and although he spoke some English his main language was Arabic, he also spoke French and German and was a lovely guy- the locals have a great sense of humour and are very friendly!
Be aware that although lunch is included in the price of the tours (we went to 2 beautiful hotels for lunch!) the drinks are not included and there is a lot of tipping expected in Tunisia, so when you change your money its wise to get smaller currency for tips.

A holiday must:
Go to the Cafe Maure for a sweet coffee and a have a go on a Shisha pipe- the mint tobacco and the apple tobacco are lovely, it is an excellent experience. The cafe is extremely authentic and a welcome break from alcohol, the guy that runs it is lovely!

We had an amazing holiday! Thank you Djerba!!

I have never written one of these before so apologies if i waffle but there is so much to say !! fantastic place. First holiday abroad with kids (2 year old lad and 4 year old daughter) so a bit nervous about it all but no need to be. This place is exclusive to Thompson premier so flew out from Gatwick on their own plane – no problems atall, on time etc. Quick through customs other end and 20 mins transfer from airport to hotel. On arrival a very welcome cocktail, painless check in and bags taken to room within 20 mins. What followed was 7 days of all-inclusive greatness! We had a bungalow with a double bed, sofa single bed for our little girl and a cot for the lad. Two bathrooms (very handy !), very clean and in a courtyard with 4 or 5 others and about 20 paces from the pool ! The main hotel area has 2 main pools and a kiddies pool, the main buffet restaurant for all meals, pool bar, main bar, jazz bar and the gem which is the Mungo kids club where our daughter spent most of her time. This isn’t just a room full of toys and games, it is just great. Morning, afternoon and evening sessions, all structured with fantastic helpers (the Magic Club yellow t-shirt brigade!!!).
5 mins walk towards the beach, passing the indoor poor and the quiet “relax pool” and you come across the other part of the complex; two more pools, its own aqua park, another bar and a buffet at lunch times if you fancy a break from the main restaurant.
Another 1 minute walk and you are on the private beach with, yes, a bar, which also serves sandwiches as well at certain parts of the day. Great beach with watersports (most of which are included in the price).
We had never heard of the “Magic Club” brand before but basically these guys are out to entertain you but it is never in your face. If you fancy water polo, its there, or if you fancy archery, it is there. You get asked once and if you don’t want to do anything, thats it. The yellow t-shirt guys are just great. They go out of their way to make sure you are happy. We were joined one afternoon for a coffee by the pool by one of the guys – really good guy who we later saw dressed as one of the ugly sisters for the presentation of Cinderalla. Yes, some of the yellow-shirts are professional dancers who put on the shows 3 or 4 times a week in the open air theatre down by the aqua park !!!!
There doesn’t seem to be that much to do on the island but to be honest if you cannot fill your days at this place where food, drink and entertainment is on tap, then you are really on the wrong holiday.
We met some great people of all ages, families, young couples, older couples etc etc.
All of the staff, and i mean ALL of them, are friendly and say hello in one language or another. From the bar staff, to the waiters, to the gardeners, to the security guys. Amazing.
The food is very good as are the local beers and wine.
If you do fancy a break from the main restaurant for dinner then there are 3 on site A’la Carte restaurants which are a bit more plush and is all included also.
So much to say about this place but we had a fantastic time here as did our kids, We went first week in June and it was just starting to warm up a touch but with that sea breeze it was oppressive atall.
However, Wesley, the very good Thompson rep, did say that July / August can get up into the late 30’s.
More than happy to answer and questions atall so drop me a line on richylud@yahoo.com
A brilliant holiday.

Our first all inclusive and I cannot find a single thing to criticise about this hotel. We travelled last week, with children aged 8 and 7 and had a ball! The hotel itself is completely enclosed and the gates guarded 24/7 so leaving the kids to wander round with their new friends was never a problem (infact we hardly saw them for 2 weeks!)
The food and drink, although I am told was not the best for an all inclusive, was most definately more than we expected, with different themes almost every night.
The staff are amazing!!!!!!!!!! There is a real family feel to the whole place, from the moment we walked in til the day we left. The staff even came and waved us all off when the coaches came to pick us up and I can honestly say it bought a lump to my throat.
There are 150 activities every day except a Monday when the staff have their well earned day off. On the subject of staff, Wes and Andrew the Thomson reps were fab and whenever we needed help or advice they were there...
Pirate trip was great for the kids (infact they went free!), camel trip was good value although take the advice of wearing long trousers cause the chafing was torturous!!
My only concern with praising this hotel as much as I am is that Thomson will hike the prices next year and that we might have to share this magical place with too many people.
We will definately look at going back!!
