“Magic Life MAGIC in Djerba !”
Reviewed June 13, 2011

I have never written one of these before so apologies if i waffle but there is so much to say !! fantastic place. First holiday abroad with kids (2 year old lad and 4 year old daughter) so a bit nervous about it all but no need to be. This place is exclusive to Thompson premier so flew out from Gatwick on their own plane – no problems atall, on time etc. Quick through customs other end and 20 mins transfer from airport to hotel. On arrival a very welcome cocktail, painless check in and bags taken to room within 20 mins. What followed was 7 days of all-inclusive greatness! We had a bungalow with a double bed, sofa single bed for our little girl and a cot for the lad. Two bathrooms (very handy !), very clean and in a courtyard with 4 or 5 others and about 20 paces from the pool ! The main hotel area has 2 main pools and a kiddies pool, the main buffet restaurant for all meals, pool bar, main bar, jazz bar and the gem which is the Mungo kids club where our daughter spent most of her time. This isn’t just a room full of toys and games, it is just great. Morning, afternoon and evening sessions, all structured with fantastic helpers (the Magic Club yellow t-shirt brigade!!!).
5 mins walk towards the beach, passing the indoor poor and the quiet “relax pool” and you come across the other part of the complex; two more pools, its own aqua park, another bar and a buffet at lunch times if you fancy a break from the main restaurant.
Another 1 minute walk and you are on the private beach with, yes, a bar, which also serves sandwiches as well at certain parts of the day. Great beach with watersports (most of which are included in the price).
We had never heard of the “Magic Club” brand before but basically these guys are out to entertain you but it is never in your face. If you fancy water polo, its there, or if you fancy archery, it is there. You get asked once and if you don’t want to do anything, thats it. The yellow t-shirt guys are just great. They go out of their way to make sure you are happy. We were joined one afternoon for a coffee by the pool by one of the guys – really good guy who we later saw dressed as one of the ugly sisters for the presentation of Cinderalla. Yes, some of the yellow-shirts are professional dancers who put on the shows 3 or 4 times a week in the open air theatre down by the aqua park !!!!
There doesn’t seem to be that much to do on the island but to be honest if you cannot fill your days at this place where food, drink and entertainment is on tap, then you are really on the wrong holiday.
We met some great people of all ages, families, young couples, older couples etc etc.
All of the staff, and i mean ALL of them, are friendly and say hello in one language or another. From the bar staff, to the waiters, to the gardeners, to the security guys. Amazing.
The food is very good as are the local beers and wine.
If you do fancy a break from the main restaurant for dinner then there are 3 on site A’la Carte restaurants which are a bit more plush and is all included also.
So much to say about this place but we had a fantastic time here as did our kids, We went first week in June and it was just starting to warm up a touch but with that sea breeze it was oppressive atall.
However, Wesley, the very good Thompson rep, did say that July / August can get up into the late 30’s.
More than happy to answer and questions atall so drop me a line on richylud@yahoo.com
A brilliant holiday.

Our first all inclusive and I cannot find a single thing to criticise about this hotel. We travelled last week, with children aged 8 and 7 and had a ball! The hotel itself is completely enclosed and the gates guarded 24/7 so leaving the kids to wander round with their new friends was never a problem (infact we hardly saw them for 2 weeks!)
The food and drink, although I am told was not the best for an all inclusive, was most definately more than we expected, with different themes almost every night.
The staff are amazing!!!!!!!!!! There is a real family feel to the whole place, from the moment we walked in til the day we left. The staff even came and waved us all off when the coaches came to pick us up and I can honestly say it bought a lump to my throat.
There are 150 activities every day except a Monday when the staff have their well earned day off. On the subject of staff, Wes and Andrew the Thomson reps were fab and whenever we needed help or advice they were there...
Pirate trip was great for the kids (infact they went free!), camel trip was good value although take the advice of wearing long trousers cause the chafing was torturous!!
My only concern with praising this hotel as much as I am is that Thomson will hike the prices next year and that we might have to share this magical place with too many people.
We will definately look at going back!!

Just returned from hotel complex which exceeded expectations. This is an all inclusive complex which included all the sporting facilities - wind surfing, archery, golf range, 6 tennis courts with coaching etc etc etc. Brilliant value for money. Food choice excellent, staff always friendly and worked extremely hard to please clients. Entertainment in evenings extremely professional. We travelled with Thomson Holidays.

The first all inclusive holiday we went on was to the Club Magic Life in Marmaris and were so impressed we tried a 5* holiday the following year again in Turkey. We stayed at the Hotel Kefaluka and had so many complaints about the food, accomodation etc i said i would never risk spending all that money on an All inclusive holiday again. However, i was convinced into trying a different Club Magic Life and i can honestly say Club Magic Life delivers a very high standard wherever you go!!!
At the Penelope beach resort as you are arrive you are plesently greated by management and guest services and check in is a pain free and fairly nice experience.
The range of food at the buffet is fantastic with new dishes to try at every sitting. There is plenty of fresh food cooked to order and unlike my last holiday experiece my wine glass was topped up regularly during each meal (not one measly glass per customer per night).
All staff were very pleasant and the lady from Guest Services was an absolute star during the whole of our stay.
As other reviews have mentioned - the hotel is kept very clean including beach and pool toilets.
If you are a light sleeper i recommend booking a bugalow suite as it really was perfectly quiet, i was not woken by other guests once during our stay.
The childrens club is the best we have ever seen! My daughter had a fantastic time with the girls experiencing the Banana boat ride, Aquaparc, picnics and parties. It was really great for the children to have the option of eating together followed by a film and then mini disco, it gave my husband and i the chance to spend some quality time together and dine at one of the a la carte restaurants in peace!
My only suggestion to make the holiday a little more perfect would be to have a choice of wine or beer as there is only one type of larger available and the wine is whatever they have open.
Top tip...book into the Tunisian a la carte and try the date liquor!
Thank you to all staff. We had a great holiday and we will never go all inclusive with anyone other than a Club Magic Life again.

Room Tip: Bungalow suites are lovely and quiet

This was our 1st all inclusive holiday, and. We certainly struck lucky with this hotel.

Primarily the best two features of this hotel IMHO are the Brilliant staff and the fact that 'all inclusive' pretty much means just that.

It's also one of the cleanest hotels we've ever visited, even the beach and pool toilets were spotless.

We took our three children all under the age of six, and they had a great time in the mungo kids club (thanks to Hannah, Jennifer, Husam and all the others) who were all brilliant. The kids could even have their evening meal with the mungo club, which allowed us to eat as a couple when we wanted.

The food in the hotel is another high point, so much choice, everything cooked fresh, probably the best food in any hotel I've been to. NB the food is geared to continental tastes, which suited us, but if you are a 'full english' type then you may need to stretch your culinary horizons a bit.

The entertainment was good, I normally avoid hotel entertainment as it's usually pretty poor, but here it was fun and entertaining, which is what you need in a standalone all inclusive resort. We all especially enjoyed the break dancers who were great!

The only times during the holiday that I put my hand in my pocket were to pay to use the On site spa. Its a really high quality facility, my wife said it was the equal of any high end spa in the uk. If you book any of the treatment programmed, try a bit of negotiating as we got an extra day of treatments for free.

I also went quad biking with the company based on site (nb they aren't part of magic life) it cost less than £20 for 1 and a half hours trekking, highly recommended. We didn't do any of the organised excursions, so we can't comment on them. We did hear that the pirate ship excursion was excellent value for money though.

Apart from the quad biking, we didnt leave the hotel for the two weeks of our stay, this is testament to how good it was. You can choose to be super active or totally chilled out, there is so much to do.

Finally, thanks to Wes the Thomson rep, who was excellent and super efficient

We booked this hotel on the Sunday & travelled on the Thursday! We had read the reviews so hoped it was going to be ok like others had said, however, it was much better than the reviews led us to believe.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with the usual welcome cocktail and checking in was painless. The reception area had been set up for groups in alphabetical order so no long wait. Our luggage was delivered to our room shortly after.

Our room was very modern with air con, soft drinks & water in the fridge, balcony & safety deposit box.
If I had to make one change it would be to have a double bed not 2 singles put together but that is not a major issue.

The rooms were cleaned daily as were the towels,

It was my husbands birthday whilst we were there & we came back to our room to find a littlle gift & note from the hotel. Nice touch, especially when I had not told them!

The buffet restaurant had plenty of choice at each mealtime. (Waffles & pancakes for breakfast every day! Mmmm.....)
The a la cartes were fab too, especially the Lamb in a clay pot in the Tunisian one!

We had gone away just to relax so the quiet pool was great, just 12 loungers or so, no music and plenty of parasols if you wish.
That said, we did spend some days by the other pools which were also great. Enough loungers & parasols so no need to get up & grab them at silly o clock each day!

If you want to be an active bunny whilst on holiday (Not for me though!) then there is so much to do or try. From Archery to nordic skiing in the shape of Skike! The best thing about this is that everything is included in the all inclusive package! In my view, exactly how it should be!

The beach is just a short stroll away and was very clean with lots of beds & parasols. The small downside for me to the beach was the seaweed at the edge of the shore, however, if you can get past that, (I coouldn't) then it is great!

I was unfortunate enough to need to see the doctor whilst we were there for a small incident on my foot, the nursing team were great! They checked on me every day for 3 days dressing my foot. Thanks!

We only went out of the hotel on one day, & that was just a small trip to Midoun, a very cheap £1.25 each way in a cab! Plenty of gift type stores, mainly selling the same stuff......

On the whole an excellent break away.
Although we do not usually go to the same place twice, we are definitely going back to this one! Roll on October!

I hope you all have such a great time as we did!

The hotel is all inclusive, and it’s very clean with excellent food. Apart from chips at one of the lunch buffets they are mercifully absent, possibly due to the more discerning influence of the French and Germans who make up approximately 60% of the clientele.
Highly recommended.
