These apartments are great if you want a relaxing ,quiet holiday. Mike the owner is so nice and very generous !! His breakfast are a must...but they do feed two!! And you get pastries with you coffee !!

We went in August and there were always sun beds at the pool whatever time you arrived . The rooms were basic but clean , and the beds were really comfortable. I would advise getting a car as there are some lovely places to visit. The beach near the apartment wasn't nice but if your turned left out of the drive and followed the road through the village past the monastry, up the mountain and then back down (about 4 miles altogether) you come to a lovely little cove called Afrata ,with a little beach bar that does nice food.
Chania at night is must , we had a couple of lovely meals in a restaurant in the back streets.
Don't bother with the water park its not good!!

Near the apartment Espirdes is fab and only a 5 minute walk (turn right out of hotel and follow the road about 1/2 mile). Its also worth walking to the restaurants in the village, its about a 30 min walk along the beach road or a 5 min drive.

Mikes BBQ's are worth trying..lots of food and wine.

We had a fantastic holiday and will be going back next year!!

We stayed one week in Alonia Apartments in summer 2009 and we really loved it.
The property is very clean and quite, the surrounding landscape is very green and relaxing.
The best is to have a car to be used to reach the beautiful beaches of Falasarna and Platanias (not very far from Kolymbari) and to visit Chania (also close to Alonia Apartments) for shops and restaurants.
We found the location perfect to deeply visit all the north west part of Crete and we could suggest this property to everyone who likes to have big, clean apartments with basic furnitur and a great service with family atmosphere.
Don't miss the breakfast, it was one of the best we ever had!

Will keep this short. The apartments are excellent, but in my view you need a car due to the location. The local buses seem to be ok, but this is still rather limiting. Very few places nearby, but as mentioned in other reports Espirides, the closest restaurant is very good and reasonably priced.

Stayed for a week in September, everything was excellent, from the cleanliness of the apartments to the pool area, 25 min walk to Kolimbari harbour and the fish Tavernas, or about 800metre the other way to decent Taverna.
Owner Micheali a perfect gent nothing to much trouble.

We've just returned from a one week stay at the Alonia -It deserves the great reviews it gets.
We had a downstairs studio for 2/3 it could have easily slept three people the space inside was great. It was clean and well equipped.Cooking facilities I can't comment on as the most we did was boil the kettle.
The pool was beautifully clean and the surrounding garden area well kept with plenty of tables and chairs with parasols for shade.
Mikey is an absolutley lovely host , attentive but not in your face,as mentioned before his honey raki is a must !
The Alonia is well placed to do whatever you want -we chose to do virtually nothing and had a wonderfull relaxing week, met some lovely people and would definatley return to the Alonia .

Visited the Alonia again this August, the first time we have ever gone back to the same place. Everything was just as wonderful, all the more so for being welcomed back as old friends, not just by Mikey at the Alonia, but also at local shops and tavernas! The EsperidesTaverna, we recommended last year, is still excellent. Also should people take the stroll up to Kolymbari, I would suggest avoiding the two establishments on the road up to the harbour, as they try to portray themselves as fine dining establishments [a delusion !] Much better to go on the front, where Taverna Edem has the edge with fantastically warm service and very good food. Just leave time to teturn to the Alonia pool bar for a relaxing nightcap [or two!]

Just returned from a one week stay at the Alonia with our 2 children-aged 15 & 10. Apartments very clean but cooking facilities basic-luckily eating out was very good value 7 so we did every night. all the tavernas along the seafront are fine & the Esperides(turn right out of Alonia & walk about 10 mins ) was friendly, closer to walk to & the food was good. Mikey, the owner, deserves his good reviews & his breakfasts are good value if you don't want to make your own. Our only complaint (if you can call it that!) was that we had to pay extra for the air-con & safe. It cost about 50euros for a week for both of them-it was hot while we were there (47 degrees one day) so air-con was really necessary.
We found a lovely bay just past the monestary which was great for snorkeling, shade from trees& fantastic clear water.
All in all a good choice for the week & we would probably return
