There are said to be 30 million olive trees in Crete. No wonder olive oil is big business. Terra Creta produces olive oil for both domestic and international markets, and tourists can get an inside view of how they work.
Sooner or later, when you stroll along the western beach roads of Chania, you will discover some funny-looking wheeltrains. They offer a range of guided tours. We paid 16 euro each for nearly 4 hours of sight-seeing in the county. This trip included a visit to Terra Creta.
Two friendly and knowlegdeable guides welcomed us, and lead us through the industrial process that takes place to make first class olive oil. It was short, informative and interesting. Then we were invited to taste different qualities of oil, accompanied by a local raki. Then some shopping, and back to our "train".
The people at Terra Creta are friendly, professional and passionate about their products. We really enjoyed to visit their plant and showroom.
Despite the Disneyland-look of the wheeltrains, this guided tour is best suited for adults.
