There are said to be 30 million olive trees in Crete. No wonder olive oil is big business. Terra Creta produces olive oil for both domestic and international markets, and tourists can get an inside view of how they work.

Sooner or later, when you stroll along the western beach roads of Chania, you will discover some funny-looking wheeltrains. They offer a range of guided tours. We paid 16 euro each for nearly 4 hours of sight-seeing in the county. This trip included a visit to Terra Creta.

Two friendly and knowlegdeable guides welcomed us, and lead us through the industrial process that takes place to make first class olive oil. It was short, informative and interesting. Then we were invited to taste different qualities of oil, accompanied by a local raki. Then some shopping, and back to our "train".

The people at Terra Creta are friendly, professional and passionate about their products. We really enjoyed to visit their plant and showroom.

Despite the Disneyland-look of the wheeltrains, this guided tour is best suited for adults.

We took a trip on the little train a trip costing 16 euros for a journey taking us to a monastary a cetian village and the Terra Creta Olive Oil Factory. Although we were out of harvesting season as our holiday was in June we had a free trip around the factory. Staff met us and explained the way the olives are harvested before taking us into the factory and showing us the way they extract the oil, nothing is wasted local farmers even get the spent leaves back to feed their animals. We then went into the main building to taste the delicious olive oils with Rustic bread and balsamic followed by a wine made from olives which is an aquired taste but all adds to a great experience. Although this is a new tour it was well worth the trip a great experience.I was spoilt for choice as to what I wanted to bring home A Real Taste of Crete.Well Done

I visited Terra Creta for a tour last week and it was very informative. I definately learned a lot about olive oil. The guides were very nice and knowledgeable. After a tour of the olive oil mill, we were even able to taste their oil, which was very rich and flavorful. We liked it so much we bought a few liters to bring home with us! I would certainly recommend paying them a visit!
