“Superb food, service and setting!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2011

We dined at Palio Arhontiko for 12 consecutive nights!! Once we found it we simply could not go else where. Papadakis Vassilis gives a genuine welcome to all his customers and the delightful Vicky provides the same.

Maria, Vassilis' wife, is a superb cook. The food is traditional Greek with an extensive menu of meat, vegetarian and fish dishes. Everything is home made and the bread, which comes warm and wrapped in a basket with very tasty dips, is really delicious.

There is an extensive wine list - but do try the house red at 2 euros a large glass. We love good food, although we do not have huge appetites, so Vasilis often gave us a lovely box of food which we enjoyed at lunch the next day.

The traditional Greek desserts were complimentary.

Rarely have we ever experienced such service - attention to every detail was so evident - coupled with excellent food and a superb setting overlooking the bay. All this at little more than 20 euros each night. I paid more for a good bottle of Greek white which Vasilis kept perfectly chilled for me to drink the following night, too. Just bliss!! Quite simply Palio Arhontiko made our holiday.

If you are anywhere in the area do go!!

Many thanks to Vasilis, Maria, Vicky and their team.

Carole and Malcolm Brown.

“Something worth driving to”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2010

There are various things which make a restaurant worthwhile; good food comes top, but this counts for little if the service is indifferent. When the service is both friendly and precise and the food is of a very high standard, then you are doing well. When this is combined with a truly delightful setting by the sea, then you have a near perfect mix.
Palio Arhontiko is one of a short run of restaurants in Kolymbari. They are all OK with some being a bit better than others; but Palio is the best of the bunch. The food is typical Cretan, and covers both fish and meat, but it is food with some flair. The service is attentive and the detail is good, with really nice wine glasses (unusual in this part of Greece). The owner K. Papadakis, makes a successful effort to make you welcome.
The view shared by all the restaurants, is very pleasant as it is right by the sea and the harbour. This restaurant is worth a drive from Chania for a Saturday of Sunday lunch, or any evening in the season (May - October) if you are living/staying closer. For us this was a real find and one to which we returned twice more on our two week holiday.
