Beautiful hotel, on the beach 3kms from Kolimbari village. The walk into Kolimbari is either along the stony beach or along the flat, unshaded road - neither recommended and too far to walk at night. There is a taverna, minimarket and restaurant near the hotel on the main road.
The hotel is low rise with central atrium and dining areas. There is a lounge bar with large deck overlooking the central pool. Beautiful at night. The pool area is magnificent. The pool is huge with an all round depth of 1.1m. There is a gently shelving 'beach' area to allow easy access for children. There is a small separate children's pool. The pool is bordered by large grassed area with a few trees, lots of sunbeds and umbrellas.
We ate in the central dining room which is buffet service. Soup, large varied salad bar and main meals. Good selection of desserts. The food was good and perfectly acceptable to most tastes. Breakfast was very varied, cooked breakfast, breads, muffins, cheese, meats etc.
The room are overlooking the pool or garden. Only a very few at the end of the block that face the sea. Free safe. Minibar, flat screen TV - only 2 English channels, both news. Beautiful bathrooms with shower and separate bath. Ours had direct access to the pool with large patio with 2 sunbeds and 2 chairs.
Bus stop on the main road near the hotel with buses every 20 mins on average to Chania - 2.4 euros. Can recommend a visit to this lovely old Venetian town. Lots of restaurants bordering the harbour.

My husband and I had a pleasant double room with access to the pool, very nice if the water in the pool had the same temperature as the sea, but no the pool was chillier than the sea :(
When we arrived we had no morning gowns so we had to ask for them. The cleaning of the room was in the afternoon when we wanted to take a little nap... and the cleaning of the room took more than 45minutes to one hour every day, and this even though the room wasn't used from the day before????
The food at Arsenali was ok but not more than that. But the restaurant manager Anthony was superb, very helpful AND service minded!
A very big minus for this hotel is that you can't take a walk during evening do to no lights. This hotel is surrounded on three sides by high bamboo bushes witch is very nice during the day but not as nice when its dark :/
A man, living beside the hotel, said that in Greece the hotel stars means that the people in Greece thinks a hotel is for example 5 stars value.... This hotel is maybe a 3 star value in our way to rank hotel and we compare it for example with Hilton Plaza Hurghada. This was the most perfect hotel at all categories!

My husband and I stayed at the Cavo Spada during the first two weeks of September. We stayed on an All Inclusive basis which I would say is the best option if you are staying at the hotel for a relaxing break as all your drinks, including bottled water are provided. We stayed in a room with a pool . There are around 20 rooms with their own pool - they are separated by sail like partitions for 3/4 of your allocated space and you can swim the length of the other room's pools at the waters edge. How lovely to step out onto your balcony and decking and take an early morning swim (and order a room service breakfast if you really want to treat yourself!) The sun shines on the pools until around 4pm in September.
The rooms are tastefully decorated and are cleaned/towels changed every day, and each evening if you are still in your room, a maid knocks on your door to see if you need any further towels or toiletries! You can hire towels for the sunbeds for Euro 10 each - you can return wet towels to reception each day and they will give you clean ones. This Euro 10 is refunded on return of your towels at the end of your stay. You can borrow a laptop from reception and pay Euro 3 for an hour's internet browsing, which was good on the 2 days we had stormy weather!
The pool bar serves water, alcohol and soft drinks, along with nuts and chips (crisps). Zaklina, one of the bar staff / waiting staff is very friendly, and makes you feel very welcome. Look for the lady with the long dark hair!
Antony, the restaurant manager, was very professional and attentive and very friendly and helpful. For the first week at lunch time we ate at the poolside restaurant where we could choose from a set menu which had around 4 choices each for starter, main course and dessert. We always chose the tzatziki and bread to start with and then a combination of either burgers, greek salad or mixed salad, salmon steaks, souvlaki (meat and onion / peppers grilled on a skewer), pasta dishes and more! You are served by waiter/waitress and service is generally very quick and efficient. The second week I think due to the change in weather, we ate up in the main dining hall, the Arsenalis restaurant which is where you take your evening meal.
The evening meal is buffet style, and is of very high quality - you can chose whether to eat inside our outside on the terrace (to the sound of crickets and the daily evening sheep chorus - from a field nearby!)
In the evening is is quite quiet, but this is how we like it, there is a bar near to reception with a lovely outside seating area with sofas and comfy armchairs.
We took a taxi ride to Kolymbari which costs around Euros 9 but my husband walked there along the beach which took around half an hour. Kolymbari is quiet and has a few tavernas along the sea front. Bus stops are on the main road, look out for them as we didn't notice them at first - the one to Chania is outside the first taverna across the road opposite the Shell garage (notice the dog in its kennel and the old vintage cars outside the garage).
I would definitely go back to this hotel , we had no complaints, and had a fantastic two week stay.

We stayed in this hotel for one week (half board). I was with a friend and the purpose of our trip was to unwind and relax.
As promised by the brochures, the hotel is tucked away far from all the nightlife and pubs in a very secluded part of northern Crete. However, if you want more excitement it's easy to catch a bus to Platanias or Chania and this will cost you just a few euros but it will take between a half and one hour single journey.
The hotel is clearly new and it's superclean. The staff are very, very friendly (Nicos at the bar is lovely) and the service is impeccable. The rooms are spacious but I thought our room was not very stylish (you'd expect more modern decorating in such a new hotel). The hotel is located by the sea and has a nice pool and sunbed area.
The food was okay, sometimes even really good (desserts are heavenly) but it needed a little bit more variety. I thought there should be more variety of fruits for breakfast (and not every day the same choice of two).
So far, this all sounds great. Yet I do have mixed feelings about this hotel.
First of all, the spa is overpriced. We picked this hotel because of the spa which we thought might come in handy when the weather would be not so good. The treatments are however way too expensive (115 euros for a 60 min massage) and the one treatment we had was not good at all.
Secondly, the hotel is next to some undeveloped building grounds, which makes it all look quite sad. I'm sure this will be better in time when the garden will be fully grown.
Thirdly, although the hotel oozes relaxation and peace and quiet, I found it particularly disturbing that they played music around the pool area (which you could hear from every angle).
Last, we also experienced a little robbery at the end of our stay when we were uncareful and left open the terrace door on the ground floor. Although this was probably our own fault, I still don't understand how it was possible that our money was stolen within less than 5 mins after we left the room. It just seems odd and one would think that our room was being watched. So be careful if you have a room on the ground floor and be sure to lock the terrace door at all times!
Did we have a good stay? Yes. But would I go back? Probably not.

We stayed in Cavo Spada just one week. It is very nice, clean and calm hotel. It's situated 1,5 km from the small village Kolymbari and 20 km from Chania. If you want to spend time in a nice and quiet atmosphere I definitely recommended this place.
The rooms are large and well equipment. The bathroom also very big and clean. We have room on the grounfloor with garden view. Some of the rooms have its own small pools.
The beach is stony so you need special boots there. The sea is perfectly blue (like in the folders). The waves sometimes are rather big because it's a windy area. The pool very big, great to swim with nice pool bar. Around the pool you have big green grass area to lying and sunburning.
The restaurant is very nice with a wonderful mountain view. The service just great, helpful and very kind. The food good but a little drab. You can eat some greek dishes and very tasty italian food. In the Sea Line restaurant (close to the pool) you can find splendid salads and the seafood.
As I mentioned staff was great and helpful what was very important for us because the robber stole us. Somebody came into our room in the night when we were sleeping and stole identity card and passport one of us. If you don'close the door in the hotel room strongly enough it's possibly to open it from outside (we had grounfloor room). It was very sad experience but with the help of hotel manager we arranged from the police all necessary documents really quickly. Thanks to this we hadn't so many bad memories.
So if you want to be in a nice, quiet and friendly hotel choose Cavo Spada and dont' forget carefully close the terrace door when you have grounfloor room.

we have spended one week in this great hotel,me my wife and our 6months old little girl.
We have chosen to stay with halfboard, and the cost was about 150 euros/night.Well it worth every euro of it...our room was a big comfortable one which was really quiet thing that was very important with a small baby..very very clean also...Due to our baby we were asking about 4 times per day pots with hot water and they always were very polite to provide it. The breakfast was superb and the staff really polite, but the great thing really was the dinner that had so many delicious options, and great sweerts...we hope we will go back again, dont miss it..
