“Perfect villa with all facilities close by”

Villa Myrtia is a great villa with lovely pool very central in the mddle of the village.Everything is very close ,like the bakery ,supermarket,ATM and a few tavernas with good food at very reasonable prices. In addition you have the bus stop 20 meters from the villa which can take you to Rethymnon.
The landlord George took good care of us and was very efficient in fixing an issue we had with the TV-set. We have been renting houses several places in the Mediterranean sea and the service and hospitality is the best we have experienced. One improvement to be made is that the kitchen could have been equipped with more glasses and new pans.

“Perfect Villa, Beautiful Terraces & Pool, lovely Hosts - Wonderful!”

The photographs of this villa are very accurate. It is very well equipped, comfortable and clean to the highest standards. It is the perfect setting to come back and relax after exploring the surrounding area. The pool is large and very private. The interior decorations are tasteful and well maintained. There is no doubt that the air-conditioning works perfectly, as did everything else.

We stayed for one week. We arrived very late at night and were greeted in the nicest way. The villa was cleaned and fresh linen/towels provided half way through our stay. We were looked after in a very friendly way, but it was never intrusive. We were left a delicious dessert in the fridge and a lovely souvenir of our stay. The local facilities are good, with several very close supermarkets, a cash point, bakeries and souvlaki and pizza takeaways. Everyone we met was very friendly.

We hired a car from the airport (I'd say this is essential) and visited the wonderful town of Rethymno most evenings for dinner and enjoyed the great atmosphere of the old town and sea front. A visit to the Fortezza which overlooks the town is highly recommended. We explored many places on the Island including a spectacular trip to the South (Preveli - Palm Beach) which is about an hour away and well worth a visit.

We had a really lovely time and wouldn't hesitate to go back and stay at Villa Myrtia as the perfect base to explore Crete further, as there is so much to see and the Cretan people are very welcoming.

The villa is very beautiful. The owners were very nice. It was cleaned but we stayed there for 5 days and there is no cleaning servise for this short period.. No change of cleaning towels as well. They said there is a free wifi but there was none. When we note it, they tried to fix it but still the wifi was so weak and you should stay at one place near the entrance of the villa to get any signal. The metraces were awful and the air conditions were pretty old, one didn't work. Great suflaky 2 minutes from the villa. One supermarket near by.

Management Response
Apr 23, 2014
First of all, we would like to thank you for choosing us for your holidays. I just would like to notice some things about your comments. You staed was for 4 nights (not 5) and we have informed you by email before booking our villa that there is cleaning every 4 days or twice a week, so for the period of you stay a cleaning service is not provided. We could have provide to you clean towels if you have requested that from us. Secondly, the problem was not that the villa didn't have a wifi, there was just a problem with the antenna and the previous guests that left in the morning before your arrival haven't informed us about. We came late at night as soon as you have informed us about the problem and the next morning i have improved the signal and you have informed us that everything was ok, so we didn't do anything more. As far as it concerns the air-conditions, they all are 6 years old as our villa and noone had any problem (you haven't complained to us for this and on our next checking noone had any problem).

Booking this property was as easy as A,B,C. Good correspondence with George from the beginning. He provided lots of information re car hire and transfers. We arrived quite late but were greeted by George and his lovely Mother Maria. They quickly went through a few details so we could go and eat. A handy information document was on the table including bus times etc. The property is detached with lots of space all around it, and a huge roof terrace. The pool was a lot larger than we expected it to be. Their other villa is a carbon copy next door but there is plenty of privacy. Air con in each of the 4 bedrooms and the main living area was very much appreciated. 35 degrees by 09.00 everyday! It was fantastic to have cleaners attend to the villa every few days, making the beds up with fresh laundry and leaving clean towels and kitchen cloths. George attended to the pool and Maria was on hand to make sure everything was just so. It's difficult to get used to not having a shower curtain but it is typical in Greece, we just felt a bit awful getting water all over the floor. One day half way through the holiday we did 6 loads of washing and dried all of it outside on the rack and line, fantastic! We managed to travel home with very little washing to do. Note to self - don't take so many clothes next time!

In the middle of the week Maria left us a very lovey cheesecake in the fridge, it didn't last long!

We used the local bus to get into town, or to get a connecting bus from Lidl on the main junction. Tickets are purchased from the tobacconist opposite (when he had them!). €1.20 each way to town. You can buy return tickets for the same each way. We travelled to quite a few places, Georgiopolous was a favourite. €6 each way from Lidl. Elafonissi beach on a tour wasn't really worth the money and we only got 2 hrs there rather than the 3 advertised with stop offs at Kournas lake for 1 hour which is lovely and Chania for a couple of hours, enough time for lunch really. The bus was badly air conditioned on a boiling hot day. The beach is lovely but totally crowded in July/August whilst we were there. Full of tour buses.

Atsipopoulo has a good bakery, several mini markets, cake shops from the bottom of the road to the top. It take half an hour to walk up the quite steep hill from Lidl. Last bus up from Rethymnon is 20.30. There are several bars and tavernas which we ate at several times, even trusting the taverna with no name, or menu on the corner. Fantastic! €90 for 4 adults and 4 kids aged 17,16,15 and 11 including drinks!

We spend a lot of money eating at Rythymnon Harbour at the 7 Brothers, don't waste your money. Fish wasn't fresh. Do go to the roof top terrace of the Byzantine art gallery, it opens at 19.30 and has a 360 degree view. Plenty of holiday shopping to be done. Lots of Raki drunk and a very good time had by all :). We had some lovely meals in the old town at Castello and La Boheme and another Bakalogatos on one of the main streets.

All in all a brilliant holiday, wouldn't hesitate to recommend Villa Myrtia to anyone, feel free to email me for any other info.

“A beautiful villa with wonderful facilities”

All the previous reports are consistent with our experience. Excellent on all fronts. This villa is a reflection of the owners who care about their clients. It starts with quality correspondence after booking the villa when we had questions relating to various issues. For instance George arranged our car hire from a local company at a discount and arranged for pick-up at our hotel in Heraklion.

This is a wonderfully finished villa, built to exceptional standards. Everything in this villa worked beautifully - something I have never experienced in any Greek island before!!

It is peaceful and situated in a little linear village about 4-5 kms on the West side of Rethymnon, with easy access to the port and old Town, which is the charming part of Rethymnon.

Chania is just over an hour away; and the south of the island is about 45 minutes. Thank you to George and Maria, and their lovely familt for making this a special trip.
Highly recommended!

“Beautiful Villa in a Superb Location, me and my family loved it!”
Reviewed July 2, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

We went on a family holiday and with 9 of us including two children this villa was perfect, the pool is amazing and the location is perfect! It feels very private and remote when you are in the villa surrounded by the sounds of nature but as soon as you go out the front gate you have all the local amenities at your finger tips including taverna's if you want to eat out or a supermarket, butcher and baker if you want to get supplies to eat at the villa. It was only a short drive into the main town of Rethymno and down to the beach and it is also pefrectly located if you want to travel around the island as you are about halfway between Chania and Heraklion in the North of the Ilsand but also right by the main road to take you down to explore the South. We loved the Island, George and his family were very welcoming and helpful and we are looking forward to going back as soon as we can! Thanks George!!
