If you go get the tower room. It is the only room with direct roof top access. You have an ante-chamber as well as your room and the castle roof is your porch. It is a fairytale nestled away in the forgotten hills and mountains of central Italy. Be sure you know exactly how to get there before setting out on your journey to save yourself some aggravation. Get there early and take it all in. is a most spectacular adventure. Make it once in your life. ...Enjoy

My wife and I stayed at this castle over new years eve and had an amazing time. The castle is ideal for a couple wishing to stay away from the city and relax in the charming countryside. The rooms are old, however they have updated furniture - a bit of old world charm. We typically stayed by the fireplace reading while sipping on cappucinos. We did travel to a nearby wine vinyard where the staff took time out of their wine making to give us a tour and sample their wonderful wine. Perugia and Assisi are nearby for a short day trip. The staff is outstanding, always going out of their way to accomodate our smallest needs. Be sure to check out the rooftop terrace and bring a bottle of wine.

This "castello" isn't, of course, an historic castle at all, so it shouldn't surprise anyone that its old world charm is slightly 'borrowed'.

I liked it a lot just the same. Maybe we were lucky that our rooms were airy and the bathrooms large. Yes, the furniture is on the grandma side, but it's in keeping with the surroundings. We had nice views over the hills.

Like another reviewer, I thought the food was wonderful and the small dining room added a lovely sense of intimacy.

It's not as much a luxury spot as a novelty one. And it is quite far out of town. Still, I'd go back. It was memorable.

  • Liked — Ambiance
  • Disliked — Not much in immediate surroundings - need to drive a distance to town.

We stayed here for our wedding night and it was not as romantic as we had hoped. We had a suite, which was big and had a spacious en-suite bathroom. Everything was clean but it lacked the charm that were looking for. The furniture was a bit of a mish-mash, some antique looking pieces mixed with furniture from the 1970’s. We were there at the end of August and the “castle”, which is not as old as it appears to be from the distance, felt empty and devoid of any atmosphere. However, there was a good view from the rooftop terrace and the garden was very nice. The service was also good. In summary, it was okay, but not special enough to deserve the high room price.

After great stays at hotels throughout Tuscany and Umbria, we were unfortunate enough to have reserved rooms at Castella dell'Oscano. Simply stated, this was the worst hotel experience we have ever had.

While the castle was most certainly magnificient in its day, we found the hotel that now occupies the space drab, dirty and very unimpressive. Our room was noisy and the decor old. Not old as in stately and impressive, but old like the room was decorated by my elderly grandmother. To make matters worse, there was a gigantic spider in our bathroom. Not a cute little guy, or even a daddy long legs. This uninvited guest was really big and really fat. To make matters even worse, despite dispatching the bathroom spider, when we woke up the next morning we found a second spider in our bed- under the sheets! We will never return to Castella dell'Oscano.

  • Liked — nothing.
  • Disliked — The room was drab, dirty and very unimpressive. The room was noisy and had spiders.

We stayed at this wonderful property in July and it was a magical experience. The room was large with antique furniture and yes although the bathroom was small with a small shower, you've got to take into consideration the age of the building where it might not be that easy to install large bathrooms. The room was huge though with a seperate sleeping and lounging area. If what sells a hotel to you is a large shower rather than a beautiful old room with high ceilings and orginal antiques than yes don't come here but if you love charm, a sense of elegance, stunning views and amazing food and drink then this is the place for you!
I cannot believe the comment made about the restaurant in one of the reviews below. I grew up in Italy and have what I consider to be a good appreciation of Italian food and the food and wine in the restaurant were excellent, some of the best I've had actually. Its all organically grown produce and organically reared local meat. In fact the food was so fresh that you had to get down early for dinner if you wanted to have the truffle dishes because the truffles are hunted for daily by the local dogs and they cannot guarantee how much they will find! The wine was out of this world as well.
A full rating goes to this wonderful hotel, we'll definitely be back!

We spent three nights- one in the villa and the other two in the castle. The setting is very quiet and lovely, but we were disappointed with our room in the castle- Falstaff, on the main floor. The bathroom was not adequate- you could barely turn around in the tiny shower and there was no place to put soap or anything else. It made taking a shower very challenging! The room was okay but there were no drawers to put anything away so you were living out of your suitcase. I would ask for a room upstairs-maybe they are better equipped. For the price you pay, the bathrooms should be updated. The staff were friendly and we enjoyed the breakfast. Overall, though, we were disappointed. It just did not live up to our expectations.
