“Hotel Galeazzi - Little Outdated”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

We stayed for a family wedding and while the Hotel Galeazzi was clean, it was a little outdated and staff did not speak great English.

The Car Park was very handy though and receptionist was helpful although not much in the way of restaraunts around the hotel.

Just returned from a week at the Hotel Galeazzi and wanted to share the experience. Yes the hotel is on a main road and even though are room was at the front the noise from the road was not a problem at all. The hotel is well located, a 10 minute walk to the Gardonne Riveria and the ferry port. There is a bus stop literally outside the door of the hotel which goes to many places for very reasonable prices. There is a small shop almost next door to the hotel and a little cafe too. The room in the hotel was good, not fantastic but no bad either. The room we had on the first floor was fairly small but the balcony was a great size. We were originally given a room at the back of the hotel, this really was very small and the balcony overlooked the back of another building so we asked to move and the hotel accomdated the request. So, any road noise was better than the view from the back of the hotel. The bathroom was dated for sure but absolutely fine and plenty big enough. The housekeepers were excellent providing fresh towels everyday and doing a fantastic job of cleaning the room. The hotel has a lovely pool with plenty of sunbeds, parasols etc and a really nice terrace area where you can have afternoon tea (complimentary between 4-5pm) or have a nice drink after dinner etc. The guest lounge is fairly small and a little souless however, with a lovely terrace to make use of it didn't really make any difference. All the staff were very efficient and met any requests we made, booking trips etc for us. My only critercism would be that whilst extremley professional and efficient some of the staff did lack a warmth and friendliness. We found the food to be excellent. Breakfast was a buffet style and yes coffee and tea was via a machine but it was tasty and not a problem. I didn't have the fruit juice so can't comment on that. There was plenty to eat with fabulous fresh bread rolls, meat, jams, pastries and some hot food too. The evening meals were also great, there was only one meal I can honestly say I didn't enjoy but the rest were great, good choice and very well cooked and presented. The dining room is a little cold and lacked a cosiness but it didn't bother us and didn't put us off. You are asked to select your evening meal when you are having breakfast and for some that may be off putting but i'm sure if you changed your mind it would be ok anyway. The hotel were very accomadating when we requested an earlier breakfast when we were going on a very early start trip to Venice. The hotel arranged for the night porter to open the dining room early just for us. The waiting staff were very good, Gloria was great and I feel a credit to the hotel. Overall I would recommend the Hotel Galeazzi and in fact I would not hesitate in returning. Yes, I think some improvements could be made, perhaps a little entertainment, more warmth from some of the staff and updating of some areas but overall a great hotel in the most amazing place. One last point, there is a great trip from Barbarano port (5 minute walk from the hotel) to a remote island (Isolo del Garda), 25 euros for the trip, can be reserved from the hotel and the most beautiful place to visit. :-)))

Room Tip: Rooms on the front while facing the road have a much better view over the pool etc

My partner and I have just returned from a week at this hotel. After looking forward to this holiday for many months, I am sorry to say that this establishment proved to be a great disappointment. The rooms where clean but the bathroom certainly needed to be refurbished, the guest lounge was a small dingy room with no outlook, and the pool was next to a very busy main road. Breakfast was a ramshackle affair, the fruit juice appeared to be SQUASH, the fruit was tinned rather than fresh and the coffee was out of a machine !!! Evening meal proved to be in the same dining room where no concession was made to improve the soullessness of the room , a tealight or a fresh tablecloth would have been welcome !! The food was well below standard and after three nights we decided not to ruin our holiday further by eating at the hotel .The only plus side to this disappointing experience, was the camaraderie that ensued when speaking to other residents, with jokes about school dinners and escape committees.

We stayed here for a week. To be honest, we booked it because the price was right.
I know the other reviews all seem to mention the main road which goes right by the hotel but, this would be the factor in almost all hotels along this side of the lake. The hotel had installed double glazing (not something I expected in Italy) and this did seem to reduce the road noise.
We had a lovely room on the fourth floor which was very spacious, it had a well appointed shower room and also a small balcony with a view of the lake. All in all, the room was very comfortable and I could not fault it.
WE stayed only on a bed and breakfast basis but found that there were many restaurants in nearby Gardone Riviera for evening meal. The food for breakfast was very good, though I doubt if the fruit juices had ever seen a fruit at any stage of their manufacture!, some people have commented upon the coffee being dispensed from a vending machine. Let's be clear, you do not have to pay for the coffee at the machine and it's taste is a darn sight better than many coffees freshly brewed! So this is not something to put you off.
The pool is small but well maintained and is a nice place to relax on a hot day.
I found the hotel to be clean and well maintained, the staff were usually friendly and helpful. My only gripe might be the number of families with young children. This hotel is not really good for young children, neither is the resort really, so I'd hope the hotel can adopt an adult only policy for the future. As a small, quaint hotel with a lot of history, it bis really gered for middle age and older couples rather than families with young children.

We have recently returned ffrom a weeks stay at this hotel. We really could not fault either the hotel or the staff. We previously stayed here in June last year and although very good overall, the food at that time was reasonable rather than good. We must admit that there was a great improvement in food this year, although the Friday night 5 course "typical" Italian meal beat nearly everyone in terms of quantity!
Dining room is probably slightly understaffed, but our waitress, Donatella, was efficient and very friendly, so no real problems there.
The rooms were very clean and we did not find that the road noise was in any way intrusive, in fact we slept very well indeed, although several glasses of wine may have had some influence on that!
Really good value for money was our overall impression, and the location was perfect, 10 minute stroll to the little bars and restaurants and the ferry terminal.
We will certainly return at some stage.

Our hotel experience was not as we thought, going to Itlay we expected fresh coffee and wonderful food, instead we got a badly staffed hotel, rude reception staff and coffee out of a vending machine...we were very disappointed. Even on our day of departure we had extended our room until 11am, yet the cleaner came back twice to clean the room (the second time she came into the room stating 'she had to do something' and unplugged the television). We didnt understand that either.... as we were not even watching it. The overall experience was poor, as the hotel did not have enough staff to cope with the guests.

Some of the reviews i have read on the Hotel Galeazzi will mis-lead you. Some one said the kitchen was closed when i needed something, well what would you expect, people to be at your beck and call 24/7, there is always someone on reception 24 hrs a day,the super market 5 minutes away which is well stocked. The rooms are spacious but some of the bathrooms need a little updating.
You are better trying to request a room that faces the road, simply because you get a lake view but you get used to the traffic. Italiens like their motorbikes and there are plenty around which does explain the noise aspect. It is a great tourist area so what would you expect.

Staying at the Galeazzi is well worth the travel to the East of Lake Garda as most people like to get out of Verona airport and then find a Hotel a mile from the airport....pointless if you want to stay in a hotel under a flight path why not stay at Manchester airport.

Food at the Hotel is of a good variety and thet have a Gala night every which is well worth attending.

There are a good choice of restaurants 10 minutes walk away from the good quality to take away pizza, but wherever you choose to eat the food is of a really good standard.

We have stayed at the Hotel for 4 years and i would not come back if it was not good, yes you can stay at other hotels but the further you go into the hills as i have found out you can easily triple the price of your stay.

We took Joshua our 2 year old and the hotel staff were amazing with the Italiens love children and really spoil them.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 2nd floor a set out better and have a little more room.
