Our week's stay in Capovaticano Resort was outstanding. The location is stunning with its private beach on the edge of turquoise sea. The sunsets over the Stromboli volcanoe are unforgettable. The hotel is beautiful and comfortable. The staff were all really charming. The Thalasso Spa is superb and beautifully designed. The spa treatments and massages were totally relaxing. Giuseppe's fitness training gives you peace of body and mind. Carmine's singing in the piano bar lifts your spirits.
The buffet dinner is excellent. The staff are all charming. We were very sorry to leave at the end of our stay.

In spite of some critical remarks published on Tripadvisor in English we have decided to spend our holidays in Capovaticano Resort and Spa. It was excellent decision. None of the critical opinion was true. No doubt, it is 5 stars resort. The hotel and surroundings are very well designed, the rooms are comfortable and well serviced. Reception is very helpful. Buffet both breakfast and dinner is always rich, seafood and especially fish is delicious, wine, this time we drunk mainly rose, is good and not overpriced. Maître’ hotel is very polite, he is present all the time when the restaurant is open , he speaks good English as many other Resort employees. We have stayed there for ten days at the beginning of September.
There were many young couples with children as well many distinguish older people. Children are offered various activities at special areas and at the big swimming pool. If you stay on the beach under umbrellas you do not hear animation!
The beach is well maintained and the access to the sea is easy and comfortable. The sea water was clean and very warm. The view of Stromboli from the hotel and from the beach is extra and free of charge of course.

Excellent hotel, beautiful location directly beside the sea, breathtaking view to the phenomenal Stromboli Vulcan, excellent food, very good service, very friendly staff and open-minded manager who has solution for every minor or major problem. We send also special thanks to Giuseppe for his dynamic and motivating fitness lessons. We are looking forward to coming back.

If you are looking for class in Calabria, this is it. It's an elegant resort, tastefully decorated, with beautifully manicured grounds. The pool is great, the beach OK (sand and pebbles, but no problem), there is a small playground for the kids. The food is good - we were on a half-board basis, buffet style, and we appreciated the, variety. There was a barbeque on one of our two evenings. The staff was very professional and mostly friendly (especially around the pool). We had a suite and it was small but acceptable for a family with 2 little children. But hey this is Italy and it will always be tight; if you want space, go to Orlando. In general, we liked the hotel and when in Tropea, we would only stay here. However, finding the hotel on arrival was a nightmare, as the address on the website was not really helpful. It was pitch dark and we were very tired when we finally found a knowledgeable local person who gave us a good guidance. My GPS was of no use as the hotel provided no coordinates. So for all future travellers, make sure you mark these numbers: 38°37'46.1" N, 15°49'57.1" E. It will save you a lot of trouble.

It is very difficult to give an overall rating to this hotel, because of contrasting impressions. I gave it a 4 stars, as it is obviously the only hotel of this category in that relatively poor region (with French management and standards, were we told).

The building in itself is magnificent. The main lobby, where lies the bar, with the open tile roof and inner garden is impressive and made me think of a roman atrium. The view on the sea from the bar is a blessing after the long road trip from the airport (check on google map, the travel takes a while: an hour and a half as the shuttle may not pass slow cars or trucks on the small roads).

The rooms are comfortable, the bathrooms offer lot of space and open showers. One can tell the hotel was built recently. Everything, including the furnitures, is in good condition.

The staff is generally very nice and helpful. The team in charge of the entertainment is particularly nice with the children. Despite their best efforts, they might have difficulties satisfying unusual demands.

Bear in mind the situation of the hotel: it is located far away from any places of interest. Tropea, the closest spot of interest where you'll find restaurants and shops, is quite far and you'll need to take a taxi to drive you there if you did not rent a car at the airport. This could somehow be problematic because the restaurant in the hotel only offers basic dinner and not much variety. The buffet is average and you'll most likely get tired of eating more or less the same thing after a few days.

The swimming pool is really beautiful and so is the sea. Now, the sand is made of tiny rocks and despite the efforts of the hotel (i was under the impression that sweeter sands had been dumped on the beach in front of the hotel), it will hurt your feet should you decide to walk along the beach or in the water. As a matter of principle, we saw only a handful of people swimming in the sea. So bring plastic shoes. The hotel's small shop offers some for sale, but the credit card machine was out of order. Make sure you bring some cash with you. The beach itself is huge. The water has a beautiful turquoise color. You can walk along the beach to climb stone cliffs and reach tiny concealed beaches.

As a conclusion, it is a very nice hotel for a romantic stay, enjoying the swimming pool (if you don't travel during main kids' holidays) and, provided that you have a car, driving to Tropea to have dinner from time to time. It could also be a perfect place for holidays with young kids who will be taken care of by the staff while you spend your day getting a tan around the swimming pool.
