We ate here several times this holiday and had eaten there previous years. Enio, the owner, speaks English and is front of house and his mother-in-law, Franca, does most of the cooking. Good value local food with fresh ingredients. If they are not available, then there are many other choices.

Tucked into the hills above the Ligurian coast the village of Rocchetta Nervina is a welcome respite from the pretty, but touristy villages.
We arrived late in the evening, peckish, but not looking for dinner and found this charming family run restaurant in the town square. A mama works the wood fired oven and her charming son (perhaps son in law) is front of house. It is very local, very slow food and very good. We had a great pizza, a fine salad and the local wine and lots of pleasant and informative chat...and in English to boot.

This is an ancient village and restaurant in the hills, about 10 minutes from Dolceacqua . The owner speaks good english and is very helpful. His mother-in-law is the chef who creates typical authentic food of the area: the rabbit dishes are delicious, as are her roasted vegetables, which is part of the primi piatti. There is a good range of meals on the menu to suite most tastes including fish, various meats, and can cater for vegetarians. There is also a wood fired pizza oven, where the roasted vegetables are also cooked. There is an outside dining area in the square, in addition to an indoor restaurant. The whole family and waiting staff are very friendly and helpful and service is efficient. Rio Barbaira is in a quiet, picturesque setting and the village is well worth seeing. When the bill arrives you will have a pleasant surprise as we had the gastranomic set menu of four courses, which included a bottle of rossese local red wine, plus a half carafe of local white wine and the bill came to 65 euros - amazing value! So much so, we went back at the end of our four day holiday there.
