Owner description: Follow the path of the lava flow, about 200 meters into the cave and 35 meters below the surface to see amazing colors and lava formations. The 8000 years old cave is located in Snaefellsjokull National Park, about 10 minute drive from Hellnar.

It was different from other caves we have visited before, since it was in lava. Our guide, Tor (or Thor), was great! He was very informative and funny!
Our daughters enjoyed this and said it was one of the highlights of the 10 days in Iceland.

This was a good, informative and interesting little tour into the lava cave and the lava tube. I think it's definitely worthwhile spending an hour of your time and you do learn something....and have a few chuckles with the guide!

We thoroughly enjoyed this venture into the lava tube led by our excellent and informative guide Þór Magnússon. As mentioned on other reviews you do need to be able to climb stairs and spiral staircases and walk along uneven ground. You are provided with the necessary helmets and torches. We thought the tour was very good value at 2000 krona taking approximately 40 minutes.
The experience of switching off all the torches and just listening to water droplets in total darkness was worth the fee alone. Highly recommended, but I’m aware it won’t be suitable for everybody.
We booked over the phone from our hotel, as we knew they only did the one tour per day in Feb/March.

We were pleased to include this cave on out tour of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, as we were not sure that we would have time for a lava tube on our Iceland trip. This is a large lava tube, with several different chambers, including a long vertical run. Good explanations of the formation of the cave by our guide Thor. Do this tour if you're in the area.

Easy to book online. Open daily, even in winter. 2000isk adults. Really good value. Fascinating to climb down and into the cave and see where the lava flowed. You need to be able to climb stairs and spiral staircases and the ground is uneven. But the torches provided are good.
But my favourite part was when we turned off the torches and stood in the pitch dark just listening to the cave....magic
