This hotel looked very good when we arrived and when we arrived we were greeted very nicely. We and our luggage were taken to our room. The room was very nice, clean, nice beds, good bathroom. We went to the pool and it took half and hour to get 2 drinks! The service at the bar was terrible. They had no idea what they were doing and were extremely rude. Other places around the hotel had very bad service as well. Breakfast was average, there was a buffet and the food wasn't great, it was okay but could be improved a lot. This could be one of the best hotels in the world but they need to improve their hotel. My advice would be to stay at the hotel but don't stay there during the day.

Stayed at the Magdalana in Nov 2012 ,, The ocupancy was only 20% the hotel was very quiet and there was no entertainment , Bar areas were also quiet with no atmosphere . However saying that had a very relaxing holiday . Pigeon point is a must but avoid weekends the beach is busy with locals , also a trip out to nylon pool worth a visit .

The hotel is set far back inside of a huge compound. You enter the property and drive through manicured lawns to arrive at the front desk. The hotel is large, family friendly, and inviting. It is very safe. They have security upon the property as well as a gate guard. Its actualy unecessary being that Tobago is really safe feeling.

The rooms are standard sized and all are ocean facing. The room is comfortable enough for two girls with alot of things, I think it would be a bit tight for four adults. The bathroom is proporational to the room. Surprisingly, there is both a tub and standing shower.

The morning breakfast is awesome. They really have everything and its hard not to stuff yourself. The breakfast area borders the pool, which faces the ocean. That provides for a fine morning view as you eat.

The Kali'na Restuarant, located on the premises, is really really really good. Like...it makes your belly warm and makes you want to hum. It was a delicious fusion meal. Emmanuel was a great waiter. Very attentive and efficient. The lobster was great. Check out their menu on the hotel website. The food tastes as good as it reads.

The two down sides, are that you cannot swim in the ocean here. The water is incredibly rough. They do have a bus that takes you to another beach. The second, is that the hotel is far from things. If you can sort out a driver you should do so. Paying for taxis and feeling 'hotel- locked' is not for me. Sometimes you need to venture off the hotel property.


If you are in the need of a driver, call Roy Quashie. His number- +1 868-478-3703. He is awesome. He is a native of the island and knows everyone. The upside of that is that he knows all the great spots to eat local food, roads and back roads, and makes suggestions of things to do. Additionally, he is reliable and trustworthy. I would text him when to pick us up and he’d be there. One night he even came and picked us up from a nightclub at 4am!! That’s what you call real service.

What can I say about our stay at Magdalena grand ? I toyed with 2 titles for this review, Magdalena not so grand or Magdalena bland. I feel as if I experienced something very different from most of the other reviews on this site.  It wasn't what we expected at all, although we still left happy and had a good holiday but mainly due to making the most of what was available and due to such a pretty island. We did however experience some very poor service in our week long stay here and have to say that the hotel and staff need some work.
We made our feelings clear at the hotel and the managers were good enough to give us their time to listen to our concerns and towards the end of the stay once the hotel was less busy things did improve slightly, I'm not completely convinced that our opinions were taken seriously though as the manager attempted no follow up with us.
The service was the main issue during our stay, the bar service is very slow and often abrupt I accept the way of life is slower here however sometimes you could wait 25 minutes to be served, there is no organisation at breakfast and the buffet room itself is quite bleak and the floor dirty and feels more like a public canteen. 
The outside bars are also dirty and surfaces not wiped.
The housekeeping in the rooms is sub standard, for example sand was not swept from our floors for 3 days, towels not replaced and even when asking for towels it took 3 hours to get some before we could shower. I don't think the bed was changed all week.
The room service menu is mostly out of date twice I called up and my choice was not available. This was also the case in the fine dining restaurant 3 bottles of wine were not available. These are small points but they happened too frequently.
The restaurant itself was actually good with nice food however again the service is flat and we didn't feel particulary welcome we witnessed a lot of confusion over reservations and bookings and this didn't help a welcoming environmemt.
Over all even keeping in mind the difference in Caribbean hotel ratings to western ratings this hotel isn't a four star hotel and it's hard to believe its been open just over a year as already there are huge signs of wear and tear and the rooms and bathrooms although fine are very basic.
It's worth also noting that the hire bikes are not in great condition the chain on ours fell off 3 times and also the sauna was out if use the whole duration of our stay. We had a constant rattle in our bathroom and the wall squeaked and vibrated each time water was running, one night the vibrations from water pipes were so bad the shower handle fell off.
The  walkways and public bathrooms are also not well kept rails are rusty and floors dirty etc.
The saving grace was the weather and the setting of the hotel the beach is nice and peaceful and the pool areas are good, although the wind after 5pm can be a little cool. It would be a good if there was a bar at the front of the hotel so you could enjoy a drink outside in the evening without the wind.
We wouldnt return to this hotel which is a shame as Tobago is a lovely island but we strongly feel the "holiday feeling " and service levels are too lacking here.

We had a wonderful holiday on this unspoilt and natural island. The hotel was fantastic friendly staff very attentive in reception area, food was good and excellent in the fine dining reatuarant.
The room was clean and the balcony view lovely. Do not worry about being on the atlantic side of the island as there is a cool breeze that makes the tempreature more enjoyable.
would go back tomorrow if we had the chance!

At Magdelena for a 2 night stay with family after a wedding in Tobago. Overall this is a nice resort but the service leaves much to be desired. At 6 pm on our 2nd night we were still waiting for housekeeping to clean our room after calling the front desk.
The grounds are well kept and the room is nicely decorated. However, when staying in what is supposedly a nice resort, I expect to have a clean room and fresh towels before dinner.

I stayed at the Magdalena Grand Resort in March 2011, after taken advantage of a two night stay offer. This was one of the best vacations my family of four ever had. The hotel is expansive - almost 750 acres, I believe, you would never believe you were in Tobago: it felt as though we were in some far off destinations. Through out the griounds, it was peaceful, picturesque and beautifully landsacped. The grounds consisted of a nature trail, a long walking trail. There were so many things to do - cycling, tennis, swimming. There are pools everywhere. It was a great stay: the food was excellent. In particular, the breakfast was excellent. No problems whatsoever. Rooms were great - comfortable, well appointed, the furniture and fittings all worked. In particular, the staff were very helpful and courteous. Indeed, the Government of Trinidad and tobago has spent close to $100 million to restore this hotel and I hope it attracts enough tourism business, But it is great. I highly recommend this hotel: it was worth every penny.
