Located in the beautiful area of the Grande Rivere, this hotel was more than disapointing. The staff were unfriendly, the accomodation was very basic and not particularly clean. The beds, linen and towels were tired. The price, although not terribly expensive, I feel is expensive for the accomodation provided. There are other more desirable hotels to stay at in the same location and only slightly more expensive.
Turtle watching is truely tremendous.

Well,we were there for two days,at first...then two more...we ended up staying six days, and each of them revealed some kind of magic. Grace(my love)and I were at the Mount Plaisir Estate, in a very secluded and incontaminated corner of Trinidad,in the Carribean. The place is located right on the sand of this silent and attractive beach and features, besides an excellent and very friendly crew,an amazing italian orientated cuisine, relaxing athmosphere, every room different by the others, turtle watching in the right season, interesting excursions and..to my opinion..the best owner. ever. Piero Guerrini,ex photoreporter, very accomplished at the time back in Italy and all over the planet,is by himself a reason good enough to visit Mount Plaisir:he's one of those rare character you would find usually in classic literature books who always has some curious and interesting anectod to tell,in the same time filling your heart with a sense of peace and joy seldomly to be found.
Just go and ask for him. Tell him his good friend Fabrizio sends you..he'll find in his emotional archive an even bigger smile for your welcome.

I have visted Mt Plaisir three times in the last four years.
The reason is that Grande Riviere and MT Plaisir are so unique in the Carribean.
You feel safe and part of the local community right away .
The food is quite good and above all the rooms location and their rustic charme are absolutely memorable.
I plan to get marry there sometime next week.
I have travelled in many part of the caribbean but at the end I always end up in Trinidad and then to Mt Plaisir Estate, my favourite spot.
If you like turtle watching you won't find a place better : on the first night of our arrival I saw in less than an hour more than 20 huge mother leatherback nesting right in front of the hotel.

My husband and I were greatly dissappointed with the accommodations at Mt. Plaisir. The reviews and articles we read about Mt. Plaisir made it sound like the most wonderful place - rustic but clean. Unfortunately, rustic does not begin to describe what we found in our room. It was NOT clean, utilities were basic at best, the lighting was very poor, there were cockroaches in the bathroom and baby bats chirping all day & night long from the roof/ceiling, and the linens, mosquito net & room decorations were shabby, dusty and faded. The restaurant food was good but service was slow.

Our main reason for visiting Mt. Plaisir was to see the leatherback turtles, and in that regard, we were not dissappointed. The turtle experience was truly amazing. However, next time, we will definitely stay at another hotel!

Mount Plaisir Estate Hotel and Spa simply has to be situated in one of the most stunning places on earth. This remote and wild place is visited by the leatherback turtles, and under a full moon whilst we were there, there were over 130 on the beach - amazing.
The accommodation itself is situated right on the beach, and is simple but beautiful. The restaurant is also beautiful, with fresh flower arrangements arranged on the tables themselves, and a menu to die for.
We had a hiccup during our stay. We had arranged to get married there, however on the morning of the wedding the priest rang and cancelled. Obviously we were distraught. The staff and estate manager proved themselves to be so helpful (and genuinely concerned) - they did everything they could to put our feelings first, which meant the manager re-arranging another wedding (in Tobago) on our behalf for the following day. This meant we left Mount Plaisir earlier than planned, however it was obvious to us both that, as far as the Hotel was concerned, it was us that mattered.
The locals are friendly, and the whole atmosphere of this amazing place is something that just has to be experienced. A truly incredible place.
