I think that anyone rating this less than five stars was probably expecting a luxurious 'all inclusive' with pricey amenities and a hermetically sealed air conditioned room. Yes, the rooms are a little rustic, and you air condition it by keeping your door open and allowing the breeze to come in from the ocean. You avoid bugs by enclosing your bed in mosquito netting. Your room is fifteen feet from the beach and maybe a hundred feet from the ocean. If you're lucky, a leatherback turtle may crawl out of the sea to lay her eggs right at your front door.
The food is great. Owner Piero offers his native Italian fare or Trinidad specialties. If you're staying a few days, you can try the food at the tiny (tiny!) town's other two hotels.
What to do? Chill out. Sit in front of your room and watch the ocean. Read a book. Chat with other travelers. Hike through the rainforest. Dip in the ocean.
I travel a lot and stay at a lot of pleasant but totally forgettable and impersonal hotels. I'll definitely return to Mt. Plaisir
