When we booked at the Bacolet beach we went there expecting a pretty hotel with amazing service. I think the people who run this place are a little confused as to who they are. The hotel is lovely, the rooms are just serene with great views, the private beach is simply fabulous, the official cab driver (Mr Beardy) is thebest guide and friend you can find on the island. However, the hotel has no room service of any kind. You have to go to the reception for any small thing you may need - laundry, water, hot water, DVD's. The bathroom broke at one point and whole place was stinking, there were no apologies or quick response (which was a little frustrating). The restaurant at the hotel has the only bad food on the island, terrible service (bartender was good, but the waitress very disinterested) and expensive. Disappointing breakfast spread. Do not eat at this hotel unless your life depends on it. Tobago has some of the best food and this restaurant is not the place for it.
What to expect? Beautiful hotel, nice people but no service. The no service part should not have any impact on your holiday, unless you are expecting to spend the entire day in the room. We did not so we loved and enjoyed Tobago and Bacolet.

Room Tip: Ask for the Junior penthouse at the corner.

We have just arrived home from a week long stay at the BBC - and will certainly think about going back there one day.

We were a little dubious after reading a few of the previous reviews, though we need not have been as we had a wonderful time there.

In response to "This is not a 4* Hotel" - no there was no tea making in the room, but we asked for one and it was brought to us within 5 minutes. I took the jug to breakfast in the morning, filled it up and kept it in the fridge in the room. We can't comment about the DVD as we did not need it, but there was plenty of choice of channels on the flat screen TV on the wall. Yes, the bed was VERY big and it was a bit of a squash between the bed and the wardrobe, but it was very comfortable - pehaps it could have been pushed a bit further down the room. During our stay the only rubbish we saw on the beach was one old tyre on the rocks.

With regard to the review "Good in Parts" - yes the curtains were too long and too thin, They didn't keep the light out. This was not really a problem for us as we like to wake early and have a cup of tea on the balcony as the day begins. No there were no napkins on the table at breakfast, but there were plenty of paper serviettes next to the coffee machine that you could help yourself to. We found breakfast to be excellent with a choice of juices and tea or coffee. Toast and jam was brought to the table and each morning there was fresh fruits available. There were a few cereals available and also croissants and sometimes some lovely cinnamon muffin style cakes. The hot table had sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, baked beans (not the usual Heinz variety!) and fried bake with salt fish (typical Tobagan breakfast). More than enough food for us!

The restaurant in the evening was quite good, but very expensive as other people have said. When eating there we only had one course and one drink each. The extra 25% certainly adds to the cost.

There is a small shop just outside the hotel and to the right. Here you can buy cold drinks, water and beer at a very reasonable cost. There are also steps down to another beach (Bacolet Bay) where there is a very nice beach bar belonging to the next door hotel that serves lunch.

The beach and pool area was always quiet during our stay. Sometimes we were the only people on the beach. At most there were 7 of us there.

All reception staff were very friendly and helpful, willing to book restaurants and taxis etc.

Check-in was quick and easy, and as we were not leaving until 2.30 in the afternoon (and check-out is at 11.00am) it was definitely worth paying 20$US to keep the room until you are ready to leave, giving us a full morning at the beach/pool.

We would recommend taking a trip around the island which takes you along the Caribbean coast, stopping at Englishman's Bay (absolutely stunning) and stopping at Gemma's Treehouse Restaurant where they serve an excellent lunch. The tour then goes along the Atlantic Coast, stopping at Argyle Falls and finishing at Scarborough. We didn't hire a car during our stay. Just as well judging from some of the roads on the north west part of the island. We also took a boat trip with Ellis of Splash Sports for a fun day out. We stopped at a small bay for snorkelling while Ellis served a very good lunch with as much beer and rum punch as you could wish for. He then took us on to the Nylon Pool to swim in the fabulous water. All in all, an excellent day out.

We would definitely recommend staying at the BBC. Although it is not on the Caribbean side, it is only a 15 minute taxi journey away, and you get the best of both worlds with the rougher waves of the Atlantic and the calmer Caribbean.

I would highly recommend the hotel, staff and service along with the location.

We chose this hotel for our wedding and was not disappointed.

The assistant manager was fantastic the whole year before we arrived.

This hotel is perfect for a romantic stay, a very intimate hotel.

The staff are all amazing and very friendly.

The food was out of this world - I highly recommend to try the specials each night as I was never disappointed. My husband is a fussy eater but he enjoyed every meal and has come back wanting to try new things.

We hoped to have an amazing wedding/honeymoon but staying at the Bacolet Beach Club made it more amazing than we could have ever imagined.

We plan to return in the future and would not stay at any other hotel in Tobago this was definitely the best on the island.

Thank you for a fabulous time!!

I am happy I chose this hotel as our choice of stay for my friends on their first time visit to Tobago but certainly wont be their last visit because of Hotel Bacolet. Our experience at this hotel was very nice from the front desk staff to the waitress that served us breakfast and not forgetting Alma and Katoo. The services we recieved were excellent, the rooms were gorgeous and clean, the location of this hotel is the most perfect location especially when you visit the beach. I will definitely reccomend this hotel to anyone because I will be visiting them again.

My partner and I have just got back from a two weeks stay at the Bacolet Beach Club. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful, we even got hugs when we left. The breakfast was good, plenty of fruit and cereals. I cannot face a cooked breakfast so I did not try the many hot dishes on offer. According to my other half the coffee left a lot to be desired, but as a tea drinker I was very happy. The food at the restaurant was good although a more frequent change of menu could improve it. There were two or three different 'specials' every night but on the whole the menu stayed the same.
We ate out most evenings but always had a last drink at the Half Moon hotel over the road before going to bed. The swimming pool was never busy so you could enjoy a cooling off dip. The only complaint that I have is that we could have done with a bit more storage space in the room.
We were worried about our safety whilst wandering about the island, the UK Foreign Office page on Trinidad & Tobago makes it sound somewhat frightening. This may be the case in Trinidad but not in Tobago. The islanders are very friendly and helpful, they value tourism and want everyone to return home with happy memories.
On our first night we had Anthony Washey the singing taxi driver take us home from Scarborough, we took his card and Stephanie (one of the hotel's receptionists) phoned him for us as we wanted to buy a copy of his CD. He came to the hotel with a copy for us.
We hired a car and toured all around, also going out in the evenings to eat. The restaurants we visited were all good although not particularly cheap. I have written reviews on our favourite resataurants. Petrol and diesel are extremely cheap-petrol is about £1.80 a gallon and diesel about 70p.
We have been to five other islands in the Caribbean and Tobago is by far the friendliest, I cannot wait to go back.
If you do visit Tobago you must go to The Sunday-School at Buccoo.

A lovely place for a laid back holiday on an island that is both easy and beautiful to tour. Car hire available at the hotel is an added bonus and you couldnt wish for nicer staff to look after your needs and provide the best advice and assistance.
