“A Slice of Paradise”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

We stayed at Nanuya for 5 nights in a beach front bure. From the moment we arrived we were impressed. The view from the room, the cleanliness and presentation of the bure, the friendly staff, and as I said the fantastic view. We had been told Nanuya was a 3.5 star resort, but I would give it 4 - 4.5 stars. We found the rooms were cool enough at night with the fan on. There were minimal mosquitoes there (I only saw one or two over the 5 nights). When I mentioned this, we were told we were visiting during the dry season and there would not be many mosquitoes around.

My husband and daughter swam and snorkeled, went to the caves. We all relaxed and regenerated. We were always able to find a beach chair/hammock to lie in. I loved feeding the fish in the water outside our bure. Amazing seeing them in the water. Such a beautiful place. There was no need for a swimming pool with the sea at our doorstep (no stingers or blue bottles here). As Nanuya does not have children under the age of seven, for us it was perfect (no offence meant to families with young children, as that used to be us too).

We did become a little bored with the daytime menu, but if we could have stayed longer we would have. The food was very fresh and the vegetables supplied were plentiful unlike other resorts where salad is more of a garnish.

We had massages with Linda, she was amazing. I regularly have massages at home, and she would give the best I have ever had. I booked for 90mins, and then added an extra 30 mins. My husband and daughter also enjoyed their massages as well.

A fantastic holiday. We would love to visit Nanuya Island Resort again.

On our honeymoon we stayed here the last 4 days and we both agreed we could have stayed longer. The room's on the hill were perfect. The beds were comfortable and the shower had hot water. The cleaned the room daily. They provided amenities. The only complaint the entire time was that the shower and toilet share the same floor, but I got over it quickly by wearing flip flops in the shower. The food was great and they never served the same dinner entree. The Banoffee Pie is to good to not eat daily. The fresh fish was great. We went for the cave trip and snorkel trip and weren't disappointed. Rod went fishing with Joji and he cooked it for us for lunch. Overall this was a great part of our trip.

Room Tip: The rooms next to the beach are a lot nicer but you'll pay for it.

We spent there 4 nights, the place is amazing, long white beach surrounded by palms and crystal water.
The place is really good for snorkeling, just in front the resort there are hundred of colorfull fish and coral.
The structure is new and well keep, rooms are clean and really confortable, service included.
The people that work there are friendly and they make you confortable.
As italian we were a bit worried for the food, but then it was so good, both fish and meat really well done.
This is the perfect place for a peacefull and relaxed holyday.

Escape the world. Great for honeymooners. Yachts and sailboats anchor nearby, apparently well known for amazing water, beach, and ocean life. "The Blue Lagoon" (1980) was an awful movie, but If you want to preview the setting you can fast forward to the beach scenes, the water scenes, and the Sawa-I-Lau cave scenes. The movie was filmed very close to the resort on nearby Nanuya Levu. Very mellow place at night, but a lot to do during the day:

SNORKELING: This resort has a beautiful convenient reef during all tides. Found it the best right when low tide switches to high tide, because you are closer to the reef, and more fish come in to feed. You can spot Octopus, Lionfish, Blue Spotted Rays, and many more if you are looking closely. Free if you have your own stuff, $5 if you don't. Take a water taxi to nearby Blue Lagoon beach resort for another great spot.

SWIMMING: There's an area south along the beach away from the resort that is shallow, perfectly clear, all sand white bottom. Feel free to go all the way up to the sign that protects the beach for cruise stops two days a week, and the others days, go as far as you please.

WALK AROUND THE ISLAND (at low tide only): Great to understand where you are! The shoreline, the villages, the villagers and researchers. Make sure the tide is low, or you won't be able to get all the way around. Don't take the path through the mangroves or go to nearby private island.

SCUBA DIVING: Great place for beginners to do 4 open waters for certification! Very reasonable pricing. No currents, beautiful corals, beautiful water, lots of small fish. For divers that are experienced, I felt the prices reasonable at about $300 FJD for two tank dive, including most rented gear (we had our own mask fins and snorkel). Beautiful dives even on rough days.

SAWA-I-LAU CAVES: Beautiful small boat ride over to another island and back. Caves were thrilling. You can buy souvenirs from islanders there on the beach. I think it was $80 FJD person. Well worth it.

TIPS:
-Bring your own solutions to ailments that might keep you from your plans, as they wont be available/cheap (Ibuprofen, Pepto, Swimmers Ears Drops, Neosporin-all things we never use at home that we desperately needed).
-Ask for a life jacket on boat rides for excursions, there are no hospitals or clinics close by.
-Life here is on Fiji time, so be patient and relax.
-Get Captains lounge if you take Yasawa Flyer. Nanuya Island Resort is 5 hours by boat, you will appreciate the AC, shelter from rain, free beer/wine, and free snacks.
-If you are concerned about spending too much on food/alcohol: They keep pitchers of free filtered water at bar at all times, just fill your own bottle when you need instead of buying. Eat free breakfast, split lunch or dinner whenever you aren't that hungry, only order starters if they really interest you. Bring your own duty free liquor and enjoy in your room while checking out amazing night time sky. Our bill was extremely reasonable after 5 nights and several excursions.

Room Tip: Stay in a hillside bure (like 11, or 12) for more privacy, better views, and less money, but expect...

My wife and I went to Nanuya Island Resort for a seven day Fijian retreat. We chose wisely. This is a great place. The staff is excellent! Besides being extremely nice, fun, helpful and courteous, they run the place with efficiency and grace.

Alfie the manager does an excellent job running this place. The whole vibe there is one of relaxation and calm. This is a great place to chill.

We stayed in bure #2. This is the deluxe in-suite bure. The room is VERY nice and just steps to the water. The beds are comfortable and the showers are nice. Plenty of hot water and the water pressure is good.

The snorkeling is great! It’s like being in an aquarium. It’s a beautiful coral garden.
You can also arrange for a special snorkel trip. You’ll be taken to an outer reef. We did this. It was great. There’s so much life. We saw fish, octopus, eels, lion fish, sea snakes and spotted sting rays.

We also did the excursion to the limestone cave. Definitely do this! It’s an amazing experience. You actually swim in the cave. Bring a wetsuit if you have one. The water is cold in the cave. VERY fun!

You can also take a walk on a trail to go across the island to a local village. The people are welcoming and very nice. I did this and really enjoyed the experience. If you do this, bring much water because it’s hot walking in the sun. You can also get to this village by walking on the beach if it’s low tide. Doing this will be cooler, but it’ll take a little longer.

They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. They food is very good. Food starts at 8am. There is an all day menu until 6pm. Then the menu changes for dinner. Dinner is 6 to 9pm. VERY good food.

Fresh fish is brought in by local fisherman very often. So, the fish there is very fresh and delicious. Much of the fish they serve is called Walu. This is also known as Spanish Mackrel. It’s a very light fish and just yummy. They serve it many different ways. They try to be creative every night with the cuisine. So, you won’t get bored with the food.

We went during August. This is winter in Fiji. This is a great time of year. It’s their dry season. The temperature is also much milder. The water is still warm and there’s much less mosquitos. However, I did bring my wetsuit and my own snorkel gear. I’m glad that I did. It makes snorkeling much more comfortable.

There are many hammocks to relax in and the lounge area by the restaurant is also a nice place to sit and chill. Each bure has a nice porch. Just sitting on your porch looking at the beautiful water is very nice to do too.

Again, the staff does an excellent job taking care of everyone and making sure that everyone has a great time. They work very hard to accommodate all of your needs and requests.

We’re so glad that we chose the Yasawa islands to go to. There islands are not as populated and much less touristy.

You will have a great time if you choose this resort to stay in.

Room Tip: Definitely stay in a deluxe in-suite bure.

Lovely welcome at this resort. We got off the Yasawa Flyer and were welcomed by a shell necklace, cold facewasher and drink on arrival. The location is amazing. Pristine beach. Relaxing.
We had a bure on the top of the hill with an amazing view. I'm sure some people complain about walking up the hill to their room - did they see the view? Its really not that bad walking once in a while. The rooms were great. I love the shower! The only downer was that I think the kettle needs replacing (there's a bit of a build up of white stuff on the base which is off-putting).
So, the bad side. The food was very average. Service was average in the restaurant too. Stop serving the mayonnaise! Lunch was either heavy burgers and chips or fried fish or a light salad lacking flavour. The vegetarian dinner I tried was unloved. I'm sure they're doing what they can with what they have on a relatively isolated island but...
The masseuse is excellent! Had the 1/2 hour but should have gone the full hour. Great.
Overall it was a great experience. Loved the location and would recommend.

This property is amazing as well as the food and staff. Sadly the snorkeling is not as good as other resorts. The coral died from a predator that has been eradicated and they are now working on rejuvenating it. There are lots of fish to see though. This is a small resort with fabulous bures, some on the beach and others up a hill. The food is high quality with lots of choices and good portions. All the staff are friendly and will help you with any request.
