This is the place for you if you want to get away from the other backpacker resorts and spend some quality alone time. This place is paradise..yeah its basic but the beach is fabulous and you have it all to yourself

OK, positive things first: the beach is beautiful and the place is very peaceful. But be prepared for rats and cockroaches in the night and thieves in the daytime.

We traveled around the world and stayed in 70 different places and Bayside was the only place where we were robbed. Take all your valuables with you when having lunch/dinner, because bures can't be locked. (Some money was stolen from our bure during lunch.)

NB! You can't choose what you eat or drink and there is no place to buy any food or drinks. Unless you walk to the other resort on the island during the low tide, but it's very rocky path.

We loved Bayside. It's run by a very nice, laid back Fijian family who keep it beautifully and cook great food. They're a funky young couple with two gorgeous kiddies and we appreciated the fact that they gave us lots of space - we just talked to them at mealtimes and did our own thing the rest of the time. The bures are really nice - truly beachfront. Unlike the other reviewer of Bayside, we didn't have rats in our bure, but we understand that this is hard to avoid when you live in such an indoor/outdoor way so we wouldn't have been too surprised.

We had stayed at Waya Lailai for the two nights preceding Bayside, and although Waya Lailai was lovely, it was quite full on (lots of staff and lots of backpackers made for almost a 'busy' time) so we were so relieved to get to Bayside and have the total peace, quiet and 'space' that we were craving. The beach was lovely. We didn't want to leave and wished we'd been brave enough to book for longer than one night, but luckily the next place we went to (Barefoot Resort) was absolutely phenomenal, so it worked out fine.

At Bayside, they cooked us a delicious omelette and served it with potatoes for lunch (huge plate of food) and a giant vegetarian samosa each for dinner (all homemade, very filling and delicious.) Matt, my husband has a big appetite and he was well satisfied. We brought our own bottle of wine but to be honest, we could have lived without it - living in such a chilled, natural place is bliss enough! If you were looking for a getaway as a couple or group of friends, this place would be really nice and could do you for a week just fine.

Just for the record, we had a peek at Sunset Waya Resort which is just around the corner from Bayside (by boat) and it also looked relaxed, friendly and in a gorgeous location.

Bayside resort was truly a magical experience!

If you are after hot showers, gourmet food and pampering however, it isn't for you! Bayside is roughing it :)

There were even rats in one of the bures :P

But that all didn't matter! We had the beach entirely to ourselves and we were so relaxed that we couldn't even get out of our hammocks!

The hosts were so sweet and made us breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. It wasn't super flashy food, but fulling and quite tasty. I especially liked the day we got doughnut type things and fruit for breakfast!

If you got to Bayside, PLEASE take care of the natural beauty there, Dont litter or damage the reef. It is so remote and the only problem I have with writing reviews is that people will go there and damage it... So look after this special little place please :)

The host allowed us to use his canoe and aught us a bait fish tso that we could take it out finishing. Little gestures such as this made it so lovely there.

His little son Tim (who couldnt speak english) was just adorable... we taught him how to count to 5 by the time we left :)

Ahhhh the memories of Bayside.

Not the best beach in the yasawas, but still a stunningly beautiful location. Check out my photos to see what I mean!
