“Paradise!”
Reviewed June 25, 2010

Just got back from an awesome time in Fiji. Spent 3 days at the blue lagoon resort, which I loved. The setting is unbelievable, the staff are really friendly and helpful, and the room was simple but comfortable, stayed in the lodge room. The snorkeling is amazing, right off the beach, and each day the resort offers a number of activites, so theres lots to do, or nothing, if you just want to relax in a hammock in paradise! lots of single travellers too, so although not a party place, it was really fun and friendly. Wish i could have stayed for longer!

Just returned from a round the world trip and this was one of the very best places we stayed. They really go the extra mile here and make it seem effortless.
The location is UNBEATABLE, the staff are fantastic and the food is AMAZING.
Snorkellng is fantastic and you feel so welcome here and they have great ties to the local village too so it feels a lot more real than many resorts you visit.
If you book this place while your in the Yasawas you won't be disappointed.
Perfect memories of sitting on the veranda with cocktails after a day of snorkelling wondering if life can get any better.

The place is beautiful, perfect beach, and the resort excellent. We stayed at the dorms, that have a good price and are very clean and super comfortable. The food is amazing, with a fair variety of options for lunch, good breakfast and a big dinner, that can be a 3 courses meal, or a lot of different dishes delivered on your table.
Service is also very good and staff amazing. And there are some enterteinement and activities, that wont let you get bored. Its not a party island though, so if you search for that maybe go to mantaray or octopus.
Well done blue lagoon team!!

We stayed for 4 nights in a beachfront Bure after getting engaged at Octopus resort.

Octopus was FABULOUS and we thought we were in paradise, until we got to Blue Lagoon. It was ridicuously perfect.

The Bure is metres from the crystal clear water and has private lounges and hamock. I took so many photos of the bathroom! it was amazing. The room was cleaned to perfection everyday, and it was nice to have such good screening that we didnt need mosquito nets.

The beach is fantastic. It has a place you can just swim over the clean sand without being over the reef, as well as the coral that makes for amazing snorkelling. The lagoon is just ridiculous, it is an island paradise.

The bar and the food are awesome, we didnt have a bad meal our whole stay.

The activities were plentiful and cheap. $10 (FJ) for a few hours handline fishing was well worth it! and well maintained snorkelling gear was super cheap to rent for the whole stay.

It was nice to see the owners mingling with the staff and guests everyday, and eating breakfast with their children along with everyone else.

It's the kind of place you dont want too many people to know about so it doesnt get runied by the travelling hordes, its just that good.

The one bad review they have recieved on this site so far is a joke! that person needs to go stay at one of the mammoth grotesque resports on Denaru (fake fiji!).

This was our second visit to Blue Lagoon, and we stayed 12 nights to make the most of it. We saw many backpackers coming and going each day on the Bula Pass, but we, like other guests, were long-termers.

Blue Lagoon has the best beach in the Yasawas, without doubt. It also has some of the best snorkelling. Another highlight was the meal plan. Initially we were reluctant to have a set meal each night, but it soon became our highlight. The food was fantastic, and plentiful.

The staff are also lovely, and the village + bakery visits are well worth it. We had 12 fantastic days.

I was perhaps a slightly different traveler than most ... single female looking to escape the corporate world for 10 days. Did a fair bit of research beforehand, and Blue Lagoon stood out because it seemed to have a good mix of people, but was still in the area that I wanted to stay in (had previously stayed at Nanuya Island Resort - see my other reviews).
My choice was spot on. The resort had a really diverse mix of people...backpackers both younger and older, a family or two, couples...but as it is not a huge resort, it made it a very comfortable atmosphere to relax in as a solo traveler. I would go back to Blue Lagoon in a heartbeat because of the following:

Friendly staff - Chris and Kylie run this resort with a lot of warmth. They make an effort to meet everyone who steps foot on the resort. The rest of the staff (including shout-outs to Tim & Sammy) are very warm and make every experience (food, activities, etc) an enjoyable one. The involvement of the people of Nacula village seems quite genuine and authentic, and I think a real effort has been made to provide back to that community where possible.

Food - by far, the best resort food I've ever eaten. And this includes my trips to the Caribbean in the past. The meal plan is mandatory but well worth it. Breakfast is continental, but to be honest, I usually only had some fruit and a piece of toast in the morning because the lunches and dinners were so big (never went hungry). There are 5-6 choices at lunch (the chicken curry is very good. and there are always veggie options), and dinner is a set menu with a few different courses. The restaurant is set up at dinner with long tables, so you are sitting with 6-10 other travelers. If that is not your thing, you can request a separate table as a couple, or do a special dinner at your bure (looked pretty impressive), but I always enjoyed talking to the different people each night. The bar had all the usual items available including cocktails.

The location - I've stayed in the Yasawa's before, so knew what to expect, but was quickly reminded why I came back. It is a bit of a hike - 4 hours by boat - but well worth it. Stunning blue water, white sandy beach, great snorkeling right off the beach. The reef off the beach is a little bleached in the shallows, but still saw a great selection of sealife including lionfish. A few guests used the sea plane which sounds like a great way to get there a little more quickly.

Activities - There is an activities board up in the restaurant so you can take part in as much or as little as you want. I enjoyed the hand line fishing with the boys, and the Village visit is a must. The full moon bonfire on the sandbar was a highlight as well. They also run snorkeling trips around the area if you want to get out to see more and their dive school opened just after my visit I believe. It's all pretty low key with a relaxed vibe, but plenty to do regardless of your age. After dinner, the lighting of the bonfire a few nights a week is usually an entertaining experience...and don't miss out on the International hermit crab racing.

The room - I stayed in the Garden Villa and loved it. Everything is very clean and comfortable (I found the villas nicer than Nanuya's bure's). The outdoor shower is absolutely the highlight. Bed is comfortable enough and tons of space. Beachfront villas are lovely and have their own hammock and beach chairs directly in front which is a bonus. Those staying in the dorms raved about them (and the dorms actually have AC). I never needed to use bug spray in my time there - as long as I had the bathroom door closed, the windows in the main part of the villa are all screened and also allow you to get the natural breeze through.

While overall I loved my time at Blue Lagoon, there are always opportunities for improvement...just a few suggestions:
- Would be great to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room with a small bar fridge
- Sometimes was a lack of sunbeds in the main area (those with beachfront get their own dedicated ones)
- Would be great to have kayaks available to putter around the bay or over to the sandbar

Thank you everyone at Blue Lagoon for a wonderful, ultra relaxing time. I'll be back ...
