“Ridiculously nice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2010

Blue Lagoon, as cheezy that might sound, is a real bloody paradise. A few brand new exquisitly renovated villas (bure's) on a stretch of white beautiful beach facing a bright turcoise bay surrounded by green mountains. It's picturesque as a postcard wherever you look.

The resort only opened in December 09 so we were very lucky to be among the first guests. The plan is to grow with a few more houses, but my impression is that the fantastic and super friendly owners will keep the size down in order to maintain the home-away-from-home feeling.

The resort is the perfect place to just lay back and relax - but still offers a pretty busy activity plan. The staff is also incredible when it comes to helping you sort out other activities. Diving is not yet part of the program, but will be in a few months - there is however a good dive center a 10-minute boat ride away. A real smash hit was to take the seaplane back down to Nadi - fantastic view, a quarter of the time and not much more expensive than the Yasawa Flyer.

This is one of these places that is just too nice and too much value to stay like this for long - so if you're in the area make sure you go before it's too late.

We booked this accomodation for 3 nights the evening before arriving.
Very charning bure on the beachfront. No air condintionning anywhere on the resort
though.
This is actually an extremely new resort. Lots of things were lacking compared to other resorts in Fiji where we spent time.
Nothing was for free. Not even the snorkelling gear. Not even the handline fishing right across the resort.
No fridge in the bure. No free bottle of water.
No store. Everything was coming out of the bar restaurant.
The food was eatable. They don t seem to have find a good cook. It is ok if you are really hungry.
The location is great and the beach was really nice. However, for the time we spent there, we did not have the luck to have a clear snorkelling. The water was filled with moving sand. Maybe because of the cyclone coming.
Really, there was not much to do there. Very few trips organized.

The hot stuff about the bure was the inner outside bathroom. Actually really great.

The owners of the resort were extremely unpleasant. From the first hour we were there, we found them awfully invasive. Always talking loud and acting like they are the king and queen of the place. They were not acting like real managers. We ve been in other resorts and the management was never showing off the way these Australian couple was. There made us feel we could have been in Australia when we wanted to be fully in Fiji.

The Fijian employees were treated like at the time of the Apartheid. The 2 owners were sadly always eating with guests and the woman owner was doing some mouth sounds to the waiter as if she was calling her dog. Very embarrasing.

Last thing. We had to leave the resort one day before because there was a cyclone warning and no boat ride to catch to go back to the mainland for the next days.

So along with all the guests we left the island. Thats when I learned that everything had been charged onto the credit card before even being in the resort, Of course, the greedy owners pretended they couldn t make any refund to anybody. Not even for the meals we were not gonna take.

I was never notified when I made the booking on the phone that this was actually a pre payment.

In other resorts, we always paid only at the check out time. And if we were changing plans, we ve never been charged for the nights we did not spent there. Worse case, you could have a penaly for cancellation but never the full night... I ve never seen that.

In my view, because they were new in the business, the owners were seeing us tourists as their milkcows.

Anyway, I would not advise the place to anyone just because of these terrible and dishonest resort owners.

They totally truined our Fijian experiance in the Yasawas.

It is a real shame that the above reviewer forgot to mention that they arrived on the brink of a Cyclone - the cyclone that sent Fiji into standby mode for 4 days, the water was rough, the swells were big and the weather was very unpredicatable for days. This effected not only these travellers but many others who were left in a position to have to forfeit or cancel a component of their booking. As travel insurance covers these situations, we are not responsible for travellers who do not hold it. The resort has NEVER advertised that we offer FREE bottled water - as we feel that most peole are content with glasses to drink from for their FREE water, we only have one air-conditioned villa, book it if you like, or take one without - YOUR CHOICE. The fishing and all boating activities are around $10 as we cover equipment, fuel and staff. Sound ridiculous - well, our staff like to get paid :)
It is considered rude to call out a persons name and as we live in a society where we should adapt to the way of life here - we discreetly signal our team appropriately, as they do us.
All in all, we have booking and cancellation policies in place as does every hotel, these are clearly listed on our website and we do NOT cover any charges up at anytime.
We actually enjoy meeting our guests and choose to dine with them. There is no segregation here.
Like it or leave it.

We stayed at the resort for 5 nights, meals included and had the time of our life. The staff were amazing, made you feel right at home and made everyone in the resort feel special. The food was amazing. We had a beachfront villa and it was perfect, the outdoor shower was out of this world and there was lots of activities, I would recommend the cave trip.
Will def go back soon, well done guys!!!

We arrived here shortly after the resort's grand opening. We loved our room and the beach was amazing. The food was okay. There was not much offered for breakfast but lunch and dinner were great. It was hard to watch the resort owners enjoy a hot breakfast in the dining room while you ate toast. I might suggest they eat out of sight or offer guests hot breakfast in the meal package.

The tours were fun when they ran. The hiking was amazing. The staff were incredibly friendly.
The couple who managed / co-ownened the resort were very nice and clearly had a vast amount of experience in the hospitality industry. However they were very bottom line driven and if you are not a drinker and dont spend money at the bar / do several tours, they become a bit 'stand-off'ish' ... they are very focused on maximizing the revenue per occupied room ... understandable ... but they need to be less obvious about it.
We are very healthy and dont drink much besides water, like self guided hikes and snorkeling on our own, so needles to say we were not the favorite guests of the week.

We loved the beach and the snorkeling and found it all very relaxing.

We were very interested to read this review and it definitely has some good points.
Such as with hot breakfasts – these have always been available and we have had plenty of guests who have enjoyed hot breakfasts in the past, though where we have definitely dropped the ball, is that we had not placed a sign up – after reading this review, that has now been rectified.
We provide a fully stocked bar comprising of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to cater for everybody and their preferences, and we place absolutely NO expectations on anyone to consume beverages. This is proven by the fact that we encourage people to drink fresh filtered water and have an all day iced water station available, on the bar and FREE of charge – this would go against bottom line thinking.
We encourage self guided walks and actually pointed these out to the above reviewer. In regards to the bottom line we are still a little confused by this comment as we are still one of the very few resorts in the islands that DO NOT charge for village trips, crafts, hiking and boat transfers. But need to confess that yes, we do want to fill the resort, because that means more jobs for the locals from Nacula, which means more resources on the island for the likes of the school, the medical unit and the general infrastructure of the village.

Was reluctant to visit Fiji for my honeymoon from Aus as I was fearful of mega resorts and hotels and uncertain about the various backpacker styled options. But with little money or time to spare Fiji seemed like our only option, and after a little research stumbled across Blue Lagoon Beach Resort, and it ticked all the boxes! The place is brand new and the acomodation was superb, designed with true style, built using local materials and local craftsmanship. If you can afford to splurge a little I highly reccommend the beachfront bure's... the outdoor showers are heavenly! However the other acomodation options looked just as cosy! Every other traveller that we met on the way home that had included Blue Lagoon in their Yasawa visit said it was the best resort out of the lot, and the fact that many guests from Oarsman's (just along the beach) spent their afternoon's in Blue Lagoon's bar area speaks volumes!

The food was amazing, day and night we were served an array of fresh foods, with an emphasis on using local produce and often showcasing local cuisines - this definitely enhanced the Fiji experience - as I have heard horror stories of other meal plans!

What really made this an unforgettable experience for us were the owners and the staff of the resort. The owners have made a dedicated commitment to working with and supporting the local village - all staff come from the village and within hours they were like family - always smiling and always keen to have a chat and a laugh. The owners; husband and wife team Chris and Kylie, Joe and Nicole are definitely on to a good thing, and also played such a wonderful part in ensuring that we were happy, looked after and well fed! By the end of our 7 day stay dinner times had become something of an extended family do - we sat up often for hours drinking and talking with the owners and staff as though we all lived their too (if only!) and nothing was ever too much for them (I hassled them about a few extra snorkelling trips before I left and they took me out on 3 separate occasions even though they only had 1 planned trip!)

The beachfront is all tidal swimming which means from sun up to sun down it is swimmable and beautiful (plenty of coral to snorkel around as well) and the list of activities and day trips is wonderful. I highly recommend the village visit. You can come to this island and do a lot or do very little, the choice is yours!

I walked away from this trip not only relaxed and revitalised but having learnt a lot about the local Fijian culture and way of life and for that I am exceptionally grateful! Thank you Blue Lagoon for making our budget honeymoon adventure a memorable one!

I only stayed 2 nights here, but wish I could have stayed longer. It is a beautiful, quiet, gem of a place, very small, but well worth visiting. The dinner was amazing, and the other meals were very good, too. There are activities available every day, and there is a lovely beach right in front of the resort, with good snorkeling.

I stayed in the small dorm, and was very satisfied. The inside of the private bure that I saw was gorgeous. The staff and the owners made my stay here one of the most pleasant in the Yasawas!

We only stayed at this resort for 1 night, but wished we had stayed longer. The staff were very welcoming and made you feel at home. The food was wonderful and you had a good choice on their lunch menu. The accommodation has a very high standard of decor which is very appealing and comfortable. We stayed in the Garden Villa which had been rennovated to a high standard, the only down point is that the bathroom seemed to be the old one which did not tie in with the rest of the decor, but it was not a problem. They offer different activities each day which includes trips into the local village and trying your hand at jewellery making or basket weaving. The best thing about this resort is the beach, it is very clean and beautiful for swimming.

I would definitely recommend anyone travelling within the Yasawas to visit this resort.
