Escape to Lago di Tenno when the summer heat down at Lake Garda gets unbearable. This beautiful, turquoise lake is inviting and picturesque. We always take food and drinks as once down there, there is nowhere to buy refreshments. There is plenty of parking (to be paid for) and a kiosk as you get there with much information about the Trentino area.

As a relative to locals I am told that local children are not advised to swim right across - that if there is a shift in the structure of the lake (read earthquake), the water will suck you right down. Of course this may be paranoia speaking - but in all the years that I have swum in the lake I have never considered this very real consequence of a shift in the rock below.

Having advised of what the locals look out for, I have also seen people happily swimming right across. There is a pathway right around which provides a lovely lakeside stroll after your picnic.
Another walk to consider is that from the lake's entrance (at the top) to Canale, the very interesting medieval hamlet down the hill. The hamlet can also be reached by car if its a very hot day as it was for us.

This beautiful little lake will take your breath away first because it is so beautiful, and then because it is so cold.
It is possible to get used to the temperature of the water, and then enjoy a relaxed swim.
There were many people there when we visited in late August, both Italian and European tourists.
We enjoyed the water and the spectacular view of mountains and forests.
There are coffee shops before you go down to the lake, down the many stairs.

the best thing about this fabulous lake is that you feel almost alone because there are not many people there. The water is clear and emerald color.
