Käsmu is one of the most beautiful and picturesque villages in Estonia. Most visitors arrive by car, as the nearest food shop is 7 km away and there is only one daily bus to/from Tallinn one hour away.
But it is perfectly possible to come without a car in June-August, when the bus service runs. Most accommodations rent bicycles and a shopping tour by bike to the neighboring village Võsu is just refreshing.
There are some pensions and private rooms on Käsmu, but the biggest accommodation is the Lainela Holiday Park.
It’s a former Soviet Pioneer camp with beds in several prisoner camp-style barracks.
One of the buildings has been renovated into apartments with good standards. Otherwise, you will find yourself in a very basic room with the toilets and shower shared with the other guests in your barrack.
But it’s quite adequate as the price for a room with single occupancy is 15 EUR.
No breakfast is provided, but you can make your own. There is also a café on the premises that opens at 10 am.
This is good for kids and bigger groups. Single travelers looking for the tranquility Käsmu and its surroundings can provide may want to look at the small pensions elsewhere in Käsmu.
The Lainela camp can accommodate up to 200 guests – compared with about 100 permanent residents in the whole Käsmu village!More
