“Brilliant half day out on the charity tour with Jen and driver Michel - totally recommended for anyone who wants to learn someth”
Reviewed November 13, 2012 via mobile

We did the half day charity tour with Giggling Gecko as we had read a little about the poverty on the island and wanted to give something back. We also felt it would be good for our kids. Discovered Giggling Gecko through Tripadvisor five star reviews and would wholeheartedly agree with them. Jen and driver Michel were absolutely first class. Jen is incredibly knowledgeable about the island (she is also very forgiving - especially of people who can't remember what time their tour started - sorry again Jen!!) and Michel appears to either know everyone or be related to everyone on Boa Vista. We went to a beautiful deserted beach, saw some very interesting road signs, visited the old town and met Sonia who runs the project un click per un sorriso which works with kids living in the barracks (slums) in Sal Rei. All I can say is please have a look at the website and take some bits and pieces with you. A little goes a long. way in Boa Vista and Sonia, Jen and Richard should be sainted for the work they do

“Fantstic day out”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

When we tried to book the island tour online the day we chose was full. Jen juggled things around and fitted us in for another day which wasn't easy as we only had a week there. What a knowledgable person Jen is. She knew everything about the island its people and infra structure. Its a new business and Jen and Richard deserve every success.
When I looked at previous reviews I thought it unusual every review was rated excellent. After going on the trip I now know why.
Thanks Jen for making our 50th anniversary so special.

“The best way to see Boa Vista”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

Just got back from Boa Vista Cape Verde, Nov 7th 2012.

Hiring a car on the island is possible but not something I would recommend, unless you are very adventurous, so the 4x4 trips are the next best thing.

There are other providers offering similar tours but Giggling Gecko has got to be the best. They do go to much the same points of interest as the other operators but my advice is book the all day exclusive tour and you will have a really special day out, plus, because you are with a smaller, more specialised, tour operator you get really individual attention.

We really liked Jen and Richards outlook on life on Boa Vista and their belief in a fair deal for all, Islanders, staff and customers plus they have already established an extensive knowledge of of the island and are able to put it across from a UK perspective.

There is very little tarmac on Boa Vista so most of your journey will be off road, which can get a bit bumpy at times but we were lucky enough to have Michelle (Michael) as our driver. He was fantastic and helped make our day. We travelled in a Toyota 4x4 crew cab pick-up, 3-4 passengers inside and up to another 4-5 on bench seats in the pick-up, although on our trip we were the only two in the back, which to my mind this was the best position for taking in all the views and felt much closer to the surroundings.

Having seen some other Toyota 4x4's going around with their passengers bouncing about I was really glad that we had Michelle as he must be the most careful and considerate driver on the island!

I won't tell you any more about the route or what we saw, theres plenty of info on the Giggling Gecko website, so just go and book it now, you will have a great time and Jen and Richard will treat you like friends and family.

“Fantastic couple offering great value for money trips”
Reviewed November 5, 2012 via mobile

We went on the all day island tour, it was fantastic. Jenny and Richard are a lovely welcoming couple who really do go the extra mile to ensure you have a great time on your trip. Unfortunately we were unable to go on the turtle trip due to weather problems but were told by friends that it is a wonderful experience. If you want get out of the hotel and see the local sites then use giggling gecko, u won't be disappointed.

“No Stress!!”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

Did the half day tour with Richard who collected us from outside the gates of the Riu Touareg. Made us feel really welcome and chatted about the things we saw as we drove along in the back of a pick up!! Great experience. (You could sit inside it too if you wanted!) Showed us some beautiful beaches and scenery and took us for a bit of souvenir shopping. Richard knew the locals so you always felt safe. Visited Sal Rei and was able to swim in the sea - not possible at the hotel as mostly red flags. Really glad we went to see outside the hotel. Only wish I'd booked it earlier in the holiday then could have done two trips (or more!!). Great value for money. Highly recommended.
