The hotel is now more than 20 years old and whilst it does show signs of wear the new management team under Marco appear to be creating a bow wave of improvements. Location and setting are perfect with proximity to miles of clean - almost empty beaches. This was our second visit - the first being 9 years ago and apart from Tobago being quiet things remained much the same.

Just came back from 4-days at Le Grand and was worried about previous reviews, but it was a sheer delight. Adana at the frontdesk was very welcoming as was the Manager Marco, Nizam at the bar was always chatty. Valerie was very informative and overall the staff were very polite and helpful. The seaview room was spacious, clean with a balcony overlooking the sea. Breakfast was perfect with everything served with a smile in the open-air dining area. Nice and peaceful away from the hustle and bustle. Blissful.

Black rock is a little village in the middle of nowhere, so the location of this hotel is not good unless you want to be alone on a beach. We felt quite alone in this hotel and saw maybe 3 other couples.

The room was quite spacious, but they got a bit overboard with the use of flowers. I counted about 7 flowers just in the bathroom! The room was clean, but the walls are really thin - I could hear a guy snoring all night! The resort really needs a make-over and some renevation. We went inside the SPA, but turned around quickly. It had a bad smell and we did not feel like relaxing in that building. The pool area did not seem that nice so we went down to the beach and it seemed like we had it all by ourselves. This might have been because the ocean was quite "wild" and the currents seemed really strong.

The restaurant (upstairs) had really good food - I had a great kingfish while my friend had a nice tender beef. The lunch(downstairs) at this place seemed a bit creepy, but because of the lack of other options we decided to try it. The sandwich was okay, but nothing special - it did not make us sick even though we had our worries.

The staff was okay. Not really good or bad. You can probably find a lot better places to stay elsewhere on the island.

If you end up in this place walk/drive to pleasant prospect(opposite direction of Black Rock). Here you can find some pizza(Pizza Boys), a restaurant and some good limin' spots. We had a lot of fun there, but it is also your only option.

Stayed here early march was told it was a 5 star resort! Don't think so ?we stayed one night had breakfast only 6 tables set . Only 20 people staying at hotel 3 of these were working at the power station. We were the only English. Pool to ourselves, but bridge over the pool is dangerous no decking 2 inch concrete step at each end trip hazard . Staff ok but seem disinterested with customers. Room was ok but was told they get power cuts and air con then won't work so you get bitten by mosquitoes. We left after one night and stayed at the coco reef execllent. Le grand coulan needs thousand spending on it from re painting to repairs around the pool don't stay here unless you want to be by yourself. Only one bar open no entrainment not a good hotel

Stayed: March 2012

When my fiance and I first booked this hotel for his birthday we were very hopeful, the pool looked lovely and the location seemed divine. We booked an all inclusive package because we wanted all the works. We were disappointed from the time we entered the resort, not only were they under staffed the guy checking you in was also the bell boy. The room was nice very peaceful had some positives like switches on the bed board, liquid soap in a dispenser for bathing, very comfortable bed and exquisite pillows. However that was about it!
The service at lunch time was so poor, the staff bickered in front of us and seemed annoyed we were there. The alcohol selection leaves much to be desired for an "all inclusive" package. The food was cold and salty at dinner and they didn't even have pepper to eat your food with. When I returned to the room I realized they had four television stations.
The same poor service continued for breakfast, this was the last nail in the coffin. My fiance and I checked out and went to another hotel.
This place has so much potential it is sad to know that tourist also had to experience this in out country, so for all you tourist reading this please know this is not the best Tobago has to offer.
