“Yet again a wonderful and relaxing holiday at Casa Lucia”

This is our third time staying at Casa Lucia as guest of Rob and Hazel and I want to explain why we will always come back here in preference to trying somewhere else.

Firstly the space. The actual Casa Lucia building is quite small but the price reflects that. It has however everything you need, a good size and very comfortable bed (2 singles that can be setup as a double) , a great sized 1m sq shower and kitchenette with cooker and a microwave. However the building is just 1/3rd of what you get for the money. The private veranda outside is almost the same area again and for a lot of the time you are out of the building an on the veranda enjoying the sunshine and the views. In addition there is a covered barbaque area, also exclusively for Casa Lucia, equipped with traditional BBQ chimney, tables and chairs and sink, a place you can also sit and eat and watch the world go by. So add these 3 areas together and you have a substantial plot to yourselves.

The hosts also make the place special as they cannot be more helpful yet also discrete. They leave you in peace if that's what you want but walk 10 paces and often they can be found on their own veranda and willing to chat. Having English hosts to chat to or ask question of in an island where English is not widely spoken is a real assets to traditional "brits" with little language skills. However, nothing is too much trouble to them from storing items in the garage for our "next visit" to helping me mending the bumper on the hire car when I accidentally caught the road. And the offerings of fruit and veg from their plots just keep on coming.

There are many reviews about the beauty of the region which I won't bother to repeat but I endorse. We are starting have our favourite things to do but we also try to do one or two new things each time we come.

Overall for a week's stay to relax and unwind I cannot think or a better setting.

However, as a budding amateur astronomer, all that's been said above is just the icing on the cake. What makes this place so special is the unrivalled clear skies and fine weather that is an astronomer's dream. I come to take pictures of the night sky and also to simple sit back on the veranda and look up. Here are a few picture I have taken in this recent visit.

Enjoy.

“Beautiful holiday rental with stunning view”

We had a fantastic week here in May with beautiful hot weather and Casa Lucia worked well as a base from which to explore different parts of the island. The trails are not for the faint hearted as most are quite steep, but they afford fantastic views and take you through beautiful Almond groves and Pine Forests with amazing wild flowers growing everywhere.
The accommodation was clean and well appointed with everything that we needed for the week and Hazel and Rob had provided us with fresh oranges from their garden so that we could have fresh orange juice every morning with our breakfast.
We enjoyed eating alfresco on the patio most days looking out towards the sea across Hazel and Rob's amazing garden.
We would definitely recommend Casa Lucia and it's friendly and accommodating hosts Hazel and Rob.

“Excellent to stay in warm weather”

Brilliantly equipped apartment and everything was thought about. A nice touch was a local bottle of wine and produce from the garden. Directions given from the airport were easy to follow. Good parking and a nice BBQ area. The walk back from town is very steep but we are semi fit and managed it OK. The owners went away the day after we arrived and although another couple stayed in their house they were not able to answer our questions. We didn't feel we wanted to interrupt the owners holiday and it would have been good if they had been there. Unfortunately it was a very cold winter this year and the evenings and nights took us back to our child hood with damp rooms and draughty windows. The heater did not work effectively and we had to move it from room to room. The hot water bottles helped. This was the only criticism we could make of this place and the owners have said that they are improving the heating for next winter. All in all a good place to stay.

Thanks very much for taking the time to write a review of your stay at Casa Lucia. We are really happy that you found the apartment brilliantly equipped, a good place to stay. We have furnished Casa Lucia with all the items that we like to have on holiday.

Like all of our guests, we too enjoy holidays away from home and our February trip coincided with your stay. We always inform our guests prior to our absence and leave our contact details, email, telephone numbers. We trust that guests will get in touch if they have any questions. We have found that some people are happy to have the place to themselves, others appreciate our being around for a general chat or to answer questions.

Last winter was officially the coldest winter in the Canaries for 15 years. We are glad that the dressing gowns and hot water bottles found a use. Extra heating would have been provided if requested.
We continue to upgrade Casa Lucia and this spring we installed air conditioning. In the next 2 weeks we are having new windows and a wood burning stove fitted. So in the future Casa Lucia will be an even more comfortable place to stay whatever the extremes of weather.

Wishing you all the best for future holidays.

“An Oasis of Peace”

The road from the airport is well maintained and quite quiet, and with the hosts' directions, Casa Lucia was easy to get to. On arrival, the sight and smell of the orange trees, the quietness, the view over the Atlantic make quite an impression.
Hazel and Rob met us to show us around the facilities, and in general over the week we were there, found that they were around enough to be helpful but not so much as to be obtrusive.
The south-west facing terrace just outside the kitchen / dining / sitting area is just the perfect place to eat, drink and generally relax. The view from it quite rightly receives a lot of comment, and it's not just the sunsets; the cloud formations below are fascinating and ever changing, the night sky lives up to the La Palma reputation. There is a separate barbecue terrace area.
It's a relatively easy walk (or drive!) downhill to the village with a selection of shops and places to eat and drink, it's a breathless walk back!!
It is just a great place to spend a little time and as a base to explore the island.

“Very good but not quite as private as it seems”

This is a lovely little place, and the hosts are as helpful as other reviewers here say.
However, it is not as private of tranquil as we thought - The hosts' place is only 15 feet behind, and they are busy people keeping this place nice so there will be activity with, for example, gardening or spinning washing machines which detract a bit from the otherwise total tranquillity.
That said, it is a great place and this might not bother you.
It is well stocked with all you need for self-catering, and with very comfortable beds, and totally clean.
Puntagorda is a quiet town but with 3-4 bars and restaurants. This is good for older travellers.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review of your stay at Casa Lucia. We are pleased to hear that you found the apartment a lovely place, totally clean, well stocked with kitchen equipment and the beds very comfortable too.

On the website we do mention that Casa Lucia adjoins our own house and we try to maintain a discreet presence. Our household tasks and gardening jobs are normally carried out when our guests are out walking or exploring the island. We find our guests really appreciate the gifts of fresh fruit and vegetables from the garden, the oranges and avocados being very popular.

Whatever time of day we are usually on hand to answer all of your questions and offer an insider’s guide to local events, places to visit and make restaurant reservations/national park reservations and book taxis if asked.

As we say on the website, Puntagorda is a sleepy rural village yet offers a variety of shops, bars, restaurants, banks and an excellent weekend market.

We wish you an enjoyable holiday on your next visit to La Palma or one of the other Canary Islands.

Just returned from a stay at Casa Lucia, thanks to Rob, Hazel and Sweep who made our stay extra special. We found the location simply beautiful and didn't want to leave. The fresh oranges and buttery avocados from the garden made our holiday even more special - thanks Rob!
