“good hotel and restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2013

it is a bit far away from the attractions, so maybe rather stay in Olafsik or Grundafjodur..

But the hotel is calm & good and the restaurant has very good and reasonably priced Burgers and Pizzas beside the classic Danish plates. Recommended for that.

We went back and forth on our location on the peninsular and glad we stayed here. As we were coming from Reykjavik and continuing toward Akureyri. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but inside it is has well appointed modern rooms that for the three of us was spacious. Located close to the water with a gorgeous view of the glacier!
A typical breakfast buffet is included and the dinner was very good with nice menu options. Close to the west end and not far from Olafsvik and beyond. Beware that the road heading east from Stykkisholmur is gravel.
Take time to travel an hour or so before sunset to the Yellow lighthouse on the cliffs east of Hellissandur. It offers some spectacular views. Also heard there is a cool underground cave on the east end near Bervik. We ran out of time. Hotel has a brochure.

Newish hotel, clean rooms, in a very small village--store was the gas station. Dinner was excellent, breakfast a bit skimpy. Highlight of the area was an extremely tall radio tower enclosed partially in the fog.

This hotel is in a very small town, and one young woman is doing everything. But wow- she is doing a great job in the kitchen! We had the special of the day - pork tenderloin, which was perfectly done and served with a delicious bed of celery root, herbed potatoes, asparagus and mushrooms. Really delicious! I felt sorry for the guys next to us who ordered pizzas - they looked pre-made and average, but our dinner was great! The wine selection was limited but we had an okay bottle from Chile. We're not huge dessert eaters which is good because there were no desserts. We made up for it by having a shot of the Icelandic caraway seed schnapps, which my husband and I both find to be delicious! The hotel accommodations were nice but not luxurious - clean, nice bathroom, but the typical icelandic twin beds put together for a queen. Do these people not like to snuggle? But we made do. All in all, a nice place.

My wife and I stayed here for the last two days before heading to Reykjavik on the final leg of our 18-day roundtrip of Iceland. The hotel is very clean and the staff are very friendly.
We ate in the restaurant on one of the two nights and the food was also of very good quality with standard Icelandic prices. The breakfast was not quite as extensive as some of the other hotels but this may have been due to us arriving for breakfast just after a coach party had left.
The bedrooms have two sets of curtains but these still let light in early in the morning. However, this is a common problem with visiting Iceland when there is nearly 24 hours of daylight.
The hotel also has free Wifi available in the rooms and plenty of parking space.

My husband and I spent 1 night at this hotel. Tour group of 20 people. The hotel was clean. We had a nice breakfast and dinner here. There were about 20 high school students in the dining room celebrating their graduation. Our tour guide asked them to sing the Iceland national athem to our tour group. The girls agreed to sing it. Was a nice gesture. Our room was very spacious. The bed was comfortable. It was a little too warm as the heat was on, there is no A/C, and the window only opens a crack. Very sunny too. It cooled down once the heat was turned off and the sun went down a little. Staff was friendly. Good experience.
