“lovely little surprise!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2013

Myself and my husband stayed in this small hotel for one night, the night before a wedding in the nearby Milton Malbay. Our journey here took us 5 hours so it was a welcome site whenever we pulled in here after 10 at night. The room was lovely, very attractive and comfortable and the bathroom very stylish and modern. They seemed to have been newly added rooms or rooms that were newly renovated.
As soon as we were shown to our room one of the staff who were very helpful arrived with a welcome basket, with water bottles, home made cookies and tea and coffee....proper tea not the tea that hotels usually doll out. All very welcome after such a long journey.
The next morning, breakfast did not disappoint. There is choice from the hot food and all is cooked to order, with lovely proper toaster toast, not the usual hotel conveyor belt stuff. The staff were helpful and kind. All in all a great stay. My husband did say though that the Guinness in the bar was just mediocre, but that's a small complaint.

We stayed at Vaghan's recently and we were rather disappointed by the experience. After a long walk across the cliffs of Moher we checked in and found the rooms to be pleasant enough but there was a definite chill in the air and we needed to ask for the heating to be turned on. We booked in to the restaurant for dinner that same evening and could not get a table until 9pm as they were fully booked earlier. This seemed like a good sign and we were looking forward to some good food in a lively atmosphere. We ordered drinks at the bar prior to taking our table and one of our party chose a pint of Guinness. He felt that there was an unpleasant taste from the drink and very politely reported this to the barman who served us. The barman's response was nothing short of downright rude and extremely ungracious and he spoke to us in a very aggressive manner. We tried to reason with him that we were not trying to cause trouble and that our friend's drink of choice in a bar is always Guinness so he would know if there was something amiss but we were told to " calm down and relax ". This treatment put a dampner on the whole evening and we finished our meal ( which was nice but portions are very small ) and moved on to a different bar ( where the Guinness was fine ). Unfortunately we were less than impressed at breakfast the next morning. We heard other guests complaining that they did not like the coffee and then heard the waitress explaining to them that there was only a choice of insant coffee in the morning as the coffee machine was not usually switched on until lunchtime! As we are all coffee drinkers in our party we decided to risk it and wished we hadn't. It was weak and insipid - very disappointing in a restaurant that seems to have achieved so many gourmet awards. It seems like too much effort to flick on a switch! We did appreciate the little touches like the basket of goodies they bring to the room on arrival , but all in all , for a not inexpensive stay we were disappointed with Vaughan's.

We were excited about staying at Vaughans. When we arrived we were told that they had overbooked so had moved us to another hotel, a modern noisy place. It was busy at the time so we appreciated that we at least had somewhere to sleep. however, the 'supposed overbooking' had occurred because 3 bookings apparently came through on the same night. This was some 2 months prior to our stay ...no effort was made to contact us and let us know or make the choice. We definitely would not have chosen where we ended up. Seems these 2 hotels regularly swap customers so if you are planning to stay at Vaughn's I recommend you check that you really are booked in!

My wife and I booked a room online , expecting a basic B and B , when show our room though typical small neat but no nonsense room, but how wrong were we. Sure the room was smallish , but it was so well appointed and comfortable with one of the best and most modern bathrooms we had seen after 3 weeks on the road. Then in the evening we ate there and were again really and pleasantly surprised. The dinner we had was of the highest quality and the Inn was full of people on a monday evening who came specifically to eat, it was great, and people were happy to que to get a table at a small Inn, that speaks volumes for the place. The food service and hospitality were fantastic.
When we eventually retired for the evening, there was a picnic basket at our door with all the tea and coffee requirements as well as fresh home made biscuits which were out of this world.
Breakfast next morning was unbelievable with great local bacon and smoked salmon.
Overall I cant say any more than if you are in the area to go the Aran Islands or elsewhere spend the night, or at least go to dinner there.

On our way back from the Cliffs on Moher, we decided to stop at Vaughn's Anchor Inn for supper. Wow! I had my mind set on eating a lot of monkfish when I saw how readily available it was in Ireland. I live on Cape Cod and when you can find a restaurant that serves it, you have to take out a loan to by dinner! This was a very generous size piece of fish served on a bed of risotto, peas and mussels with pea puree. It was just fabulous! Others in our party were equally happy with fish and chips, seafood chowder, BL, burger with fried egg, and a lobster/crabmeat salad. All I can say is...Yum! Everyone felt the same. If it had been closer to our home base, we would have been here for dinner every night! Sincerely hope to return! Great job, Vaughn's!

Room Tip: We did not stay at Vaughn's but would consider for the future

Myself and the girlfriend were in the area for a wedding and stopped in for some dinner the night before. This is a pub/inn that has turned it's hand to producing some really tasty food which is well presented and interesting. We found the service to be good despite the place being fully booked and buzzing.
Would highly recommend it to anyone in the area.

Tonight we have had one of the best meals ever. I rate it up there with the very best. From the most tastiest breads, to the delicious fresh seafood, and the tempting desserts. All I can say is thank you.
