The lodge is very remote and relaxing and the owner Louis is one of the nicest and welcoming people we met during our 4 weeks in Namibia. The pool refreshing after a long hot drive. Our family room was modern and very comfortable. Dinning area particularly the terrace very out of Africa feel lots of ambiance book comfortable lazy chairs all topped off with excellent wine.
The drive to the dunes would be a little far perhaps 2 hrs so you would need to stay closer. The surrounding hillsides have good walking and excellent views but are at least an hour from Nankluft park entrance although alternative and more convenient lodge accommodation is not available. The lodge is really wonderful and relaxing and bear in mind an hours drive in Namibia is nothing as a family of three we covered over 3000 in four weeks. I could not recommend a lodge more favourably it is really beautiful.

Room Tip: Take several good books and chill. Walk the trail up to the Quiver tree about an hour with great vie...

We should have had 2 nights as our first stop in namibia but Air France let us down and we lost a day - lovely location and friendly owners who have great plans for the lodge's future. Thanks for giving us a lovely start to a memorable holiday.

Unfortunately we stayed only one night. We got the Honeymoon Suite which is the most beautiful room. Breathtaking view. Nice sundowner driver, perfect dinner, friendly and motivated. We felt like home after the warm welcome. The managers are really doing hands-on business, always there for a chat or if you need help. No cellphone reception due to the canyon but WLAN in the main building. Hiking trails available, so best to stay 2 nights minimum.
We will come back!

We stayed 2 nights at zebra riverlodge prior to moving to sossusvlei/ desert camp, which is a 1,5-2 hour drve, depending on how fast you drive. We were upgraded to a very beautifullly located suite with a private and partially shaded and wind protected terrace with a stunning view. The stone walls of the room create a special atmosphere, bathroom in same style. As it is quite far from anything else, this an ideal place for those who seek rest and beautiful nature. Unfortunately, due to circumstances, the guides were absent, but Louis showed us a very interesting geological phenomenon on the large property. We did the 2.5h quiver tree trail on our own, which was absolutely fantastic! Medium hike, with fabulous views of the valleys and several beautifully coloured birch trees ( gold, bronze, copper). The sundowner trip with our hosts and 2 neighbouring lodge owners who were visiting was so full of conversations that we hardly saw the views from the hilltop. The main lodge with cozy lounge and dining area, invites to relax around the fireplace prior to dinner. The terrace is great for breakfast and lunches. A few little caveats for those who demand modern and ultra luxury comfort: Due to its remote and peaceful location, hot water can be limited at times. Plenty of good quality cold spring water. Also, satelite internet connection in these rural areas is not what one is used to at home. In the lounge area, e- mail is fine but surfing or worse, uploading pictures, is not possible. Just wait until you get to a city to do that. The formerly mentioned adopted springbok is grazing the grounds and is fun to watch. The highlight of this lodge, however, is the personal and warm hospitality by the mid aged owners Geraldine and Louis. They made us feel completely at ease and more than welcome in a very natural way. If you are a down to earth and open person, you will love this very special place! We have been at many lodges and hotels and B&B s all around the world from basic to ultra luxurious, but what we increasingly discover that genuine personal hospitality is what makes your stay memorable. I have never written such a long review, but this lodge deserves it...

Though we arrived late in the evening after a very long day we will never forget the warm welcome we got from Geraldine and Louis around a nice glass. Decoration is beautiful and each room is personalized. Nice menu as well. Vegetarian possible if you mention it before. Very good wine selection at reasonable price. We really enjoyed the fire in the restaurant and the living room at this time of the year with fresh nights... Great memories when we were all looking at the sunset in this wonderful landscape, singing all together. We felt like in paradise... All the staff members were friendly and always smiling ! The only think we wish is to come back next year !!!

We have just returned from a most special visit to Zebra River Lodge. We are a group of academic and industry geologists who are fortunate to be able to do field work in the area surrounding Zebra River Lodge. Our stay was for 5 nights during which time we were able to experience the beauty of nature and the magnificent scenery of the area. For those interested in the fauna, flora and geology, this is a "must-do" visit. The Lodge has been subject to significant improvements over the past few months by the new owners and provides excellent accommodation. The staff and the owners are most friendly and helpful. A first class stay. We look forward to being able to return next year! Thoroughly recommended.
