Owner description: Capo Vaticano, the last strip of land before the Straits of Messina, thrusts dramatically from the sea, its white rocks battered and eroded by centuries of breakers that have taught sailors to respect and fear this fascinating, almost mysterious place. Capo Vaticano its majestically enthroned in a turquoise sea, as it dominates the archipelago of the Aeolian Islands to the north-west, the Gulf of to the north-east, to the south-west the Gulf of Gioia Tauro and, beyond, the Straits of Messina culminating in Mount Etna. This part of Calabria, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, contains the ancient fascination of a thousand years of history. The sea that caresses the snow-white beaches and the wildness of the rocks make visitors lose their sense of time, as it conceals beneath its waves the secrets of ancient shipwrecks, the relics of which have frequently been discovered. Life in the area is dominated by fishing; its waters are visited by the great swordfish, tuna, blue sharks etc.

Visited Capi Vaticano many years, but now it is in complete decay. The cliff walk has been closed, and so has the bar at the balcony. Waste and rubbish everywhere - true Calabrian style.

This place has everything, the Lighthouse which is hidden (yeah, you can see it only by going on a cruise). The bus stops close to Fernando"s restaurant, a great family place where you can eat natural food made on the spot. The view is spectacullar from their terrace, lots of energy. There is also the beach nearby, very quiet.
Still, if you want to see the Lighthouse like in the picture, it won"t be possible from the ground, we missed it first time :)
It"s right next to the restaurant but very protected, it"s still military active and the access is forbidden inside.

We stayed in Tropea and were ready for a drive along the coast, not sure what to expect, we cruised along the coast and stopped at a nearby lighthouse. As it is used by italian army, access is prohibited but we enjoyed the spectacular views

It could have been just pure luck or the time of the year but the beach was very empty, very strange for such a beautiful place.
Couple of places to eat and drink, one can easily spend the entire day relaxing and enjoy the beautiful sea over there.

Simply beautiful, the color of the water is a mirror, the beach is amazing. Off season so very quiet, however summer must be crowded.
