We had a fantastic time, the staff were all great even though a few other reviews mentioned otherwise. Rooms were great,The food was of a very good standard but became a bit repetitve as we stayed for two weeks.
Overall we had a lovely relaxing holiday and would definately recommend a stay at the Verandah.

We stayed at Verandah October 23-28. After reading some of the negative reviews, I was somewhat leery. I had bought the package a while ago on Luxurylink.com, so I received a pretty good deal.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with rum punch. Reception and transfer to the room went off without a hitch. Everyone was very friendly and explained the lay of the land. There is an orientation for new guests daily, but we did not attend, instead relying on asking questions.
Room: Our room was lovely. .. Large, airy and roomy. We had a fabulous view of the inlet and Atlantic. The room was furnished nicely and contained a safe, microwave, small fridge, flat screen tv and accessories for eating in the room ie plates, flatware, glasses and the like.
The bathroom was large with a wonderful big tub...I would recommend that the resort furnish bubble bath at least once per stay. I think that this would be a nice touch.
Beach and Watersports: Beaches were clean and very nice. The watersports provided kayaks, hobies, paddleboats. My only complaint regarding the beach is that due to the fact that it is an inlet, the water is sandier than what is usually found in the Caribbean. It was still beautiful. We did not go to the quiet beach located near the hotel lobby as our room was closer to the watersports beach.
Food: The food, I thought was exceptionally good. The buffet was exceptional. There were plenty of choices at every meal. Nicoles did a wonderful job at dinner and I thoroughly enjoyed my meals there. On our last evening, they did not have anything that I personally really liked on the menu, so they made me an alternate. The beach bar had great snack food ie burgers, hot dogs, fries.
Service: The service was great...and I would like to name them all... Shawn (cart driver), Sharon (housekeeping), Monique, Vera, Rose, Margaret, Dayton, Jamoy, Felishia (all bar staff) Jason (cart driver), ..they were all friendly and willing to please. Waitstaff were always attentive and wonderful.
Location: Off the beaten path in Antigua. The resort adjoins a national forest (Devil's Bridge) and it was an easy hike . It was worth seeing.
Wildlife: The resort has guests now and again...goats and donkeys...which I personally loved. Also of note were the pelicans who dive into the water all day long and were loads of fun to watch. There are mongoose to be seen here and there and geckos. There are lots of beautiful birds flitting about.
Grounds: Well maintained and manicured. The grounds were beautiful.
Pools: There are several...an adult pool, the main pool and a childrens pool at the kids club. The pools were all clean and well maintained. We didn't use the kids club as we had none with us, but it looked very nice.
Spa: Our package included an aromatherapy massage and facials. We did both and since it was my first massage, I really liked it. Aeya (sorry about the spelling) did a wonderful job.
Getting around: We hired a private driver (Tia) and were driven to St. John's for some shopping and then around the island. We were taken to Shirley's Heights, Nelsons Dockyard. I was thrilled to see Montserrat from the view at Shirley's Heights. Very worthwhile and beautiful. The fee I thought was a little high (30.00 per hour) , but worth it as I don't like busloads of people traveling with me. We had a very nice, enjoyable, quiet tour and spent 150.00.
Bars: Bars provide ample alcohol in the drinks. I thoroughly enjoyed them. I particularly liked the Antigua Smile and Antigua Kiss. The only complaint I had in regards to the bars, is that after they all close, if one is thirsty for soda or water, there really isn't anything open in order to get a drink. I did not see vending machines. Soda is available at the store on the property and I did buy some, however thought it to be very costly. I would recommend picking up soda somewhere outside of the resort and bringing it in to stock the fridge.

We had a wonderful stay at this resort and would highly recommend it for virtually any age group.

  • Liked — I loved the room and the food.
  • Disliked — Mini fridge not stocked with soda or water.

Having travelled fairly extensively in the Caribbean, this was our first stay at The Verandah. We would recommend it to couples and families alike. The rooms are like junior suites and are really well appointed with large comfortable beds, AC and ceiling fans, flat screeen TV, safes, small kitchenettes and large verandahs, some with absolutely stunning views.

The whole resort is set in beautiful landscaped gardens, with a network of roads served by electric golf buggies, if you're don't feel like walking from A to B. Water can be drunk from the tap everywhere, due to the in-house desalination.

There are two beaches, one with water sports which is buzzy, near a nice beach bar and the pool, the other, much quieter for those who wish to get away from it all. The sea is very calm due to the bay's natural reef.

For families who we met with children, the Kids' Club was very popular and the staff attentive. We both enjoyed using the large and well equipped Gym, but didn't get around to using the Spa facilities, although we heard positive comments.

The main bar, at the pool side, supplies all of your drinks, (including branded spirits), but lacks some sophistication in the evening. We would have liked to have seen a separate cocktail bar for evenings only.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served in one of three restaurants in the same building, although you can get a nice lunch at the beach bar. The food was good if not stunning, but value for money. We would have liked to have felt more atmosphere in these restaurants, however this was more than compensated for by the excellent service, some of the best we have ever encountered.

Nothing was too much trouble for every member of staff we met.
We were quite often greeted by name.

In summary, we loved the resort and would revisit it.

The Verandah is in a beautiful location. The views out over the sea are spectacular and the location at the end of a long bay means that the sea is calm and safe.

We stayed in a water-front cottage, very spacious with a separate loung/kitchen area and fantastic view over the bay. We were lucky to be very close to the beach, pool and restaurant area. The resort covers a very large area and the outerlying cottages are up to 10 mins walk from the resort centre. We found the 'golf cart' service which runs around thre resort to be erratic. A return trip to the Reception (at the Resort entrance) took an unbelievable 45 mins.

The beach and pools are simply beautiful. The resort was pretty empty when we stayed, so plenty of sun loungers available. We often saw goats and donkeys on the beach, which was fun. A shame about the topless bathing, anyone over 30 should simply not do this!!!!

There are soft drinks available on the beach, but for anything else you will need to walk up a flight of steps to the bar. This is no real issue unless you have several drinks to carry. We found our Tray highly useful.

Food was OK, not great. We were not allowed to eat in Nicole's as our party of 13 was considered too large, even though we offered to split up. The service ranged from excellent to frankly rude, which is a real shame as with a little bit of effort with this could make such a difference. There was a marked improvement on our last night when the Manager was around.

Most of the staff really were very pleasant, very good with the children and always friendly. It was just a few that let the side down, but unfortunately it tends to be this that you remember. Security-wise the hotel felt very safe.

Overall we had a great stay, and would recommend the Verandah. Do not go on any basis other than full-board or All-inclusive, there is nothing much near by and prices in the shops at the Verandah are extortionate. Recommend walking over to Devil's Bridge (no more than 10 mins walk). We also went on the Antigua Rainforest zip-lining tour, and thoroughly recommend this.

  • Liked — Very spacious. Simple decoration but good amenities.
  • Disliked — Nothing!

We stayed at the Verandah over the last week of september/ first week of October, despite many weather channels reporting storms etc...the weather could not have been better!
The resort was very clean and well maintained, the majority of the staff were friendly and very helpful.
The facilities were excellent, we took advantage of the spa and had massages which i would highly recommend to anyone!
All 3 restaurants were very nice and the food was always of a high standard.
We were very pleased with our room, which was very large with a very comfortable bed, flat screen TV and a fantastic view from the balcony.
The only negative about the resort would be the entertainment in the evenings, for us being a young couple we found it a little dull at times and could have done with a bit more variety.
We took a trip on the Sunday to Shirley Hights which is must the views are spectacular and the atmosphere is electric.
All in all the Verandah was the perfect choice for relaxation and we would gladly return!

We stayed at the Verandah for 1 week and loved everything about it. The bungalow style accomodation was very spacious, clean, and had everything we needed including a kitchenette area. The view from our Verandah was fantastic despite only having a water view rather than water front suite. The food was very good for an all inclusive resort, especially the evening al a carte meals which were restaurant standard, we especially enjoyed Nicole's. Even the buffet breakfast and lunch was lovely, I would recomend trying the omlettes, the beach bar a grill was also good for lunch with excellent views over the beach.
We prefered the main beach as it was close to the bar and pool and the pools were lovely, we also tried kayaking and hobby kat sailing. The trip to Shirley heights is worthwhile for the views alone and it wasn't too expensive approximately $6.50 for 2 beers and if you want to eat there bbq chicken with salad is approximately $10 and very tasty.
We also went to the spa (for a massage and green caffiene wrap), it's wasn't cheap but very relaxing and I think worth the money.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful, overall a great holiday and we would have liked to stay longer. Recomend you also try mango daquiri's and take mosquito repellent!

  • Liked — Bathroom, huge bath/shower and 2 sinks, and bed which was also huge
  • Disliked — Mosquitos
